Somewhere In Between: May 2008
Taken by Scott at a cafe in Aswan, Egypt - May 2006

We have been having such great time the past couple of weekends its been hard to take time away and post. Cheryl has been extremely busy during the last part of April and the first half of May, so we have been soaking in all the time we can get with all 3 of us.

We had a great weekend. It started out at the Chapmans' house on Friday night with the Richards for dinner and all the kiddos playing. Saturday we went out for a little shopping so Cheryl could get some new Reefs since Gizmo destroyed them when he was here. (If you don't have a pair, get a pair).

Sunday evening we met with our church Home Team at a neighborhood pool for food & fun! Unfortunately we forgot the camera at home, but let me tell you, Caleb LOVED being in the water. It took him a few minutes to get used to it, but then he had a great time! I was done after dinner, but Caleb was really ready to get back in. After dinner he just hung out with me in the pool and sometimes he wanted to go to the kiddie pool to walk around. We are definitely going to make more attempts to take him to our pool in the complex.

We went to the zoo yesterday morning just for a couple of hours and while we were there Caleb had a major milestone breakthrough:

Background: When Caleb was about 6 months old, we would put him on the toilet before his bath and he would use it every time. This quickly became a daily routine. When we moved back, we intended to keep it up and see if Caleb was ready, but after a while we stopped being diligent about asking him to go potty. A few weeks ago, Cheryl bought a toddler seat to put on our real toilet and once again we would take him before baths and before bedtime.

A couple of weeks ago he had a diaper explosion incident at daycare (a major care issue that forced us to immediately remove him from his current class to the other one in his age group) and it appears to have set off a light bulb in his head that he's ready to be potty trained.

So after telling us a few times, mainly in the morning or after dinner, that he needed to go poo-poo, we got him some Pull-Ups and some big boy underwear for around the house. It took a few days for him to understand/see himself peeing before he realized what was going on, but he is such a big boy.

All weekend he would tell us when he need to pee-pee or poo-poo and most times he would catch it before or just after he started and then he would finish in the potty. He is now in Pull-Ups all the time now.

Back to the zoo...we weren't going to push him since we were planning on being away from home for several hours and we've only just begun the potty training phase. However, about 45 minutes after being at the zoo, Caleb told Cheryl he needed to go pee-pee. Of course, we were in front of the lions and there was no restroom in sight. It took about 15 minutes until we got to a bathroom. Cheryl came out with a look of amazement on her face.

Caleb kept himself dry and waited until he sat on the potty before he peed!!!! He kept this up all day, even during lunch at Chili's and at home!!! He is such a big boy and we are so proud of him! Grandma has purchased a seat for Caleb to use while we are in Chicago for the next week so he can continue in this huge achievement!!

Its a little crazy to handle how big our Caleb is, but it's so much fun!! Here are some recent pictures, mostly from the weekend.

It starts with a video of riding the train within the Ft. Worth Zoo

Fun in Mama's papasan chair.

Believe it or not, but Caleb is dancing here.

Caleb has flip-flop/sandals too!

Here are a couple of great clips from NBC via the awesome Office Tally website. If you aren't watching The Office, please stop and ask yourself why not?

Dwight K. Schrute for Veep

This SNL clip wouldn't have been nearly as funny without Ricky Gervais.

Soon I will provide an update on our little boy. He is growing up so fast!

So I love my wife and my son. I just love being with them! We had a great day yesterday just spending the day together. We ran a few errands and after talking about it for weeks, we finally got Caleb a real haircut. He was born with a decent amount of hair and I think we gave him his first trim in June 2007 which was a pretty interesting affair.

Since then we would just trim the front primarily so his hair wasn't over his eyes. He really just got a nice, professional trim since we think that Caleb would just look funny with short hair. We love the shag and it works for him. Anyway, he did a really good job and was mellow the whole time. Here are a couple of pictures.

After...

While at Target I pointed out some animal bathroom things to Cheryl and we got a whole new set for Caleb's bathroom. Its great and now he keeps looking around saying "Lion", "Roaarrr", "Monkey", "Ooo Ooo Aah aah" over and over again. Its so adorable!
