My regular posts stopped in 2013, with a major move and the chronic illness and eventual death of our oldest daughter. Yes, we grieve daily, yet I am determined to continue to let the LIGHT of my LORD and SAVIOR shine through me. I have tried to start posting again, over the last few years, but have not been consistent. So, I think the biggest blessing for you and me both will be to intersperse some new posts while revisiting some of the former posts. Let's begin with "Oh, the JOY!" as we head into living through Fall 2019; meeting back here 1-2 days a week.

HOLY...LESSONS LEARNED...


MEDITATION MONDAY

The first week of the year, on this blog, we began with the theme HOLY. It is a thread that will weave throughout the year. There are some concepts that we will visit today from from the blog and from Steve's sermon yesterday that I will gladly share with you.
.
One main concept that I want us to think about today is:
  • "Secret sin and incomplete obedience lead to faith, holiness, and life being sucked right out of us!"
  • We are set aside for sacred living... holiness... to be a saint... to be a sanctuary... .
It's not often anymore that I hear the hymn "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY" sung. It is a message that the generations living on this planet today need to hear. "Holy! Holy! Holy! Lord, God Almighty! Early in the morning my song shall rise to thee! Only Thou art Holy! There is none beside Thee! Perfect in power, in love, and purity!"

1. LESSONS LEARNED ABOUT HOLINESS FROM OTHER SONGS THAT ARE ON THIS PLAYLIST:
  • HOLY: And now all I have is gratitude to offer You! ...and somehow all that matters now is: You are Holy,,, Holy! Only me! On my knees! ...singing “Holy! Holy!”

2. LESSONS LEARNED ABOUT HOLINESS FROM OUR MONTHLY MEMORY VERSES:
  • "Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us FIX OUR EYES ON JESUS, the author and perfecter of our faith..."
  • "Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you SHINE LIKE STARS in the universe..."

3. STEVE SHARED LESSONS LEARNED ABOUT HOLINESS FROM PEOPLE IN THE OLD and NEW TESTAMENT:

  • Joshua 7: Achan's secret sin and it's consequences led to the death of 36 men; He saw... He coveted... He took... He hid...
  • 1 Corinthians: The people of Corinth struggled with sin, especially sexual sins. In chapter 6, Paul tells the Corinthians that:
  • .....The body is for the Lord and NOT for fornication.
  • .....Bodies of Christians are members of Christ.
  • .....Fornication is a sin against our own bodies.
  • .....Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit
  • .....We are under obligation to glorify God with our body and spirit.

4. FINALLY, STEVE SHARED LESSONS ABOUT HOLINESS AND HOW TO OVERCOME SIN: I will use his thoughts several times this week. For today, I'll share a short 5 chapter version by Portia Nelson about how this might work.

SANCTUARY... AS THE STORMS RAGE...

Catch Up and Must Do

"...for it is GOD WHO WORKS IN YOU to will

I have tried, more than usual, this week to be aware that God is working in me and through me. Our memory verse has reminded me that He is my constant companion, whether I feel like He's there or not.
.
Throughout my life, I have found that the more I am in tune to God and His working in and through me, that the storms seem to rage even more. As I have focused on this memory verse this week, the storms have been over the top in almost every area of my life. There have been many temptations for discouragement, doubt, anger, frustration, and just quitting. Then, a still small voice reminds me that "WORK IS MESSY... EVEN GOD'S WORK".
.
Yesterday, God gave me several amazing encouragements in my work as a teacher. He confirmed for me once again that He is working in me and that my life is about His good purpose (in His timing). I will say this, I will basically not get a Spring Break this next week when the rest of the university does. There are some "have-to's" that will give me an opportunity to shine for Him.
.
As the storm at the cross raged before Him, Jesus said, "Father, not my will but Thine!"
.
As the storms physically rage outside our home today and in my daughter's body... as they rage in other ways through family and work, I choose to say, "I don't wanna' but I'm a gonna!"
.
I choose this day to remain a SANCTUARY - PURE AND HOLY, TRIED AND TRUE... WITH THANKSGIVING...
.

SANCTUARY... GOD'S FAMILY OF SAINTS...


This week we have talked briefly about each christian being a vessel, a holy residence, a sanctuary for the Living God. Yesterday, I referred to those of us who are christians... sanctuaries... as saints. There does not have to be a vote for you to achieve sainthood. You do not have to go through a series of hoops to be crowned a saint. In fact, according to scripture, all people who have become christians are saints. Paul uses this word often as he writes letters to various churches - groups of christians - the family of God. Here are a few of the 60 New Testament scriptures that refer to saints.

Romans 1:7 says,

"To all in Rome who are loved by God
and called to be saints:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father
and from the Lord Jesus Christ."
.
Romans 8:27
"And He who searches our hearts
knows the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes
for the saints
in accordance with God's will."

1 Corinthians 6:1-2
"If any of you has a dispute with another,
dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment
instead of before the saints?
Do you not know that the saints
will judge the world? "
.
Ephesians 1:18-19
"I pray also that the eyes of your heart
may be enlightened
in order that you may know
the hope to which He has called you,
the riches of His glorious inheritance
in the saints,
and His incomparably great power
for us who believe."

Ephesians 3:14-19
"For this reason I kneel before the Father,
from whom His whole family
in heaven and on earth derives its name.
I pray that out of His glorious riches

Once I became a christian, I became "a sinner saved by grace".

...A SANCTUARY for His Holy Spirit from above.

SANCTUARY... VISUALS OF HOLINESS TURN TO A VISION OF HOLINESS...

I author another blog called GIGATTAATTGIG -- God Is Good All The Time And All The Time God Is Good. Today, on this blog, I am writing to tell you that I am so very grateful that God is HOLY all the time and all the time God is HOLY!
.
I began the year, on this blog, with the first theme entitled HOLY. On yesterdays post, I shared the amazing fact that all of the following words have the same Greek root word: holy, holiness, hallow, hallowed, consecrate, saint, sanctify, sanctification, and sanctuary. Did you know that the number one, most discussed, character trait of God in the Bible is HOLINESS???!!!??
.
Today, I would like to share some of a journey of visual connections to HOLINESS that God has allowed me to see, since that first week of 2010.
.
THE FINAL VISUAL OF HOLINESS was yesterday as I traveled to supervise one of my clinical practice students. I passed a housing development unlike most housing developments I've seen. The name caught my attention first. Then, the million dollar plus homes made me realize that this was no regular housing division.
.
I began to envision THE HOLY CITY... and I realized that what I was seeing was nothing compared to my heavenly home. I drove back around and snapped this photo of the gates into the development:

Revelation 21 (in part)

"I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem,

coming down out of heaven from God,

prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

"Now the dwelling of God is with men,

and He will live with them.

They will be His people,

and God Himself will be with them and be their God.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes.

There will be no more death

or mourning or crying or pain..."

My MARCH VISUALS OF HOLINESS come from this past Sunday's Bible class and sermon.
.
In Bible class, we often provide opportunities for church family members to tell their "God stories". This quarter, our women are having a Bible class where we are going through the book of Colossians in a quarter as we follow the theme of Christ being "The One". Last Sunday, the topic was "THE ONE WHO FORGIVES MY SINS".
Sister "A" shared of years in prostitution before coming face to face with HOLINESS. Her "remembrance story" has become another visual for me of a HOLY GOD calling sinful people back to HOLINESS.
.

The concept of this kind of story is summed up in Romans 6:
.
"Just as you used to offer the parts of your body
in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness,
so now offer them in slavery to righteousness
leading to HOLINESS...
...But now that you have been set free from sin
and have become slaves to God,
the benefit you reap leads to HOLINESS,
and the result is eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Steve's Sunday sermon included an example of a short tailed weasel. This little guy makes his home in places like Canada and Siberia. His coat changes colors with the seasons to be his camoflauge. In fact, his name changes, too. When he is white as snow, in the winter, he is called an Ermine.

When the snow is gone, his coat changes to brown. Then, he is called a Stoat.

That so illustrates our challenge! Do we become like the world when we live in the world? Does the world change us or do we change our world?
.
1 Peter 1:15-16 says,
"But just as He who called you is HOLY,
so be HOLY in all you do;
for it is written:
"Be HOLY, because I am HOLY."
.
Hebrews 12:14-15 says,
"Make every effort
to live in peace with all men
and to be HOLY;
without HOLINESS no one will see the Lord."
.
1 John 4:4-5 says,
"You, dear children, are from God
and have overcome them,
because the One who is in you
is greater than the one who is in the world."

God, thank you for the visuals! I get it!

1. SANCTUARY: Your HOLY residence now and forever!

  • 2 Corinthians 6:16-17 "For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord."
  • Revelation 21:1-4 "I saw the HOLY City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God."

2. BABIES: You desire for us to be sinless... HOLY!

  • 1 Peter 2:1-3 "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation..."
  • Matthew 19:14-15 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

3. SIN = DEATH; NEW BIRTH=ETERNAL LIFE:

  • 1 Peter 1:3-5 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you..."
  • Colossians 3:5-14 "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator."

4. HOLY LIVING FOR GOD'S HOLY PEOPLE:

  • Colossians 3:12-14 "Therefore, as God's chosen people, HOLY and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."

SANCTUARY...HOLY...

MEDITATION MONDAY

We began the year, on this blog, with the theme of HOLY! This week we return to discuss the importance of being holy because our God is holy.
.
If you are reading this and you do not worship with the saints where I worship on Sunday mornings, you missed a real treat yesterday. In our women's class, we heard "A" discuss how God saved her from her former life of prostitution. It was a lesson on forgiveness out of the book of Colossians: JESUS IS THE ONE WHO FORGIVES MY SINS. Her humble testimony was a tribute to our God!
.
Then, Steve spoke to us in the assembly about BUILDING GOD'S CHURCH: HOLY TO THE LORD!
.
First, He emphasized:
  • God is the builder!
  • Jesus is the foundation!
  • Each of us is the temple (sanctuary)!

.

Ahhh! God was at work again! I had already posted SANCTUARY as our theme for the week and Steve already had this lesson planned but neither one of us had made the connection as to how connected the two were. It is the connection that I would like us to meditate on today:

The root word in Greek for HOLY is the same as the root word for the following words:

  • holiness
  • hallow
  • hallowed
  • consecrate
  • saint
  • sanctify
  • sanctification
  • sanctuary

Meditate on that today and ask God to help you make the connection!

SHINE ON US... PUSH US...

KETCHUP AND MUSTARD SATURDAY

Today our youngest daughter flies in to Philly for her spring break. I am thankful that she chose to come home and spend it with us! The sun is shining in South Jersey and for now it is not snowing!
.
For those of you who know our family, you know that we love mexican food! Mexican food with ketchup and mustard? As Crystal would say, "I'm not feelin' it!" So, I'm going to forego the K & M today and get ready to head for the airport and then out for Mexican Food.
.
Of course, I don't want to leave you high and dry! I would not be a very good hostess if I did that! I have a ton on my mind to share with you, but today is just not the time. I hope you can stick around and enjoy this brief video that I have linked you to. Of course, as you watch it, you'll connect with the "mama eagle". Think for a moment, though, of the "mama eagle" being God and you being the baby eagle. Then, think of it in terms of what we've been talking about over the past weeks: We are God's Workmanship! SHINE ON US... MAKE US FAMILY...

Ephesians 2:8-10 Tells us that salvation is a gift!

"For it is by grace you have been saved,

through faith-and this not from yourselves,

it is the gift of God- 9 not by works,

so that no one can boast.

For we are God's workmanship,

created in Christ Jesus to do good works,

which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Philippians 2:12-13 reaffirms the concept that God is the One who is working on us during this process...

"Therefore, my dear friends,
as you have always obeyed-
not only in my presence,
but now much more in my absence-
continue to work out your salvation
with fear and trembling,
for it is God who works in you
to will and to act according to
His good purpose."

Yesterday, we used the example of being offered the gifts of 3 different types of makeovers:
  • body
  • wardrobe
  • house
In each makeover, even though a gift, the receiver has to do something to receive that gift. Accept it... cooperate... let someone else take the lead... submit (get out of the way)...
.
These concepts are all there when a person decides to accept the gift of salvation from God. What does that look like? Many people would have us believe it is "saying the sinner's prayer" and "accept Jesus into your heart"... Others would have us believe that it's not about acceptance, "we just need to cover our bases and 'baptize' that baby"...
.
I think the best way to get a basic grasp of how people become christians, is by looking at how they became christians (part of the family of God) in scripture. Join me today as we read through a few of those:
.
Acts 2:38-47 - Here, is the day "the church" or "the family of God began" after Jesus had ascended back into heaven. The apostles' (through the power of the Holy Spirit) aided 3,000 people in becoming christians that day. See how it was done and note how the word "accepted" is used:
  • 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  • 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call."
  • 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."
  • 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
  • 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
  • 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.
  • 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.
  • 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
  • 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
  • 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. "

Here's another New Testament example of salvation:

Acts 16:25-34

  • 25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
  • 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.
  • 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.
  • 28 But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!"
  • 29 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.
  • 30 He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
  • 31 They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved-you and your household."

Acts has many stories of people converting to christianity after accepting the message of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Each new convert did not become "perfect" because "christians aren't perfect... they're just forgiven. Each convert became God's work in progress!

SHINE ON US...THE MAKEOVER IS TRANSFORMING...

TRANSFORMING THURSDAY

.

If someone surprised you with the gift of a makeover, you still have to make a choice as to whether or not to allow that makeover to happen... whether or not you will accept the gift of the makeover of you, OR your wardrobe, OR your home is your choice.



  • If you choose, then there are things you need to do like humble yourself and let them see all your blemishes, OR your lousy wardrobe, OR your house that's falling apart. Usually this entails accepting it on their terms and following their guidelines, saying "Whatever it takes!"

  • You may be so sorry for not doing a better job ... so embarrassed... feeling so helpless that you wish you would have taken better care of your body/appearance, OR taken better care to select your wardrobe, OR cared enough to do timely repairs on your house... you articulate those feelings...

  • Your choice leads you to sit down in a chair and allow them to begin their work on you, OR give them permission to have access to your closet, OR give them the keys to your house to go in and literally take over the work...

I hope by now you're beginning to make the connections to a personal transformation from darkness to light. Salvation has been offered to us as a gift of God by the faith and grace of Jesus Christ who gave His blood sacrifice for it to happen. Yes! It is a free gift, but I still have to accept it on His terms. Remember the verse last month? "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- ..."

  • If you choose salvation, then there are things you need to do like humble yourself and let God see all your blemishes (sins), OR all your lousy attitudes/habits (sins), OR your spiritual house that's falling apart (sins). This entails accepting on God's terms and following His guidelines... saying "Whatever it takes!"


  • You may be so sorry for not doing a better job ... so embarrassed... feeling so helpless that you wish you would have done things differently.... you articulate those feelings...


  • Your choice leads you to give God access to your heart and the reins of your life..., OR give them the keys to your spiritual house / heart to go in and literally take over the work...


The work is quite a MAKEOVER! In fact, it is all about God's work. God's work is transforming! God is the One who does the transforming...

  • From hate to love

  • From death to life
  • From backbiting to encouragement

  • From lies to truth
  • From stealing to giving

  • From murder to rejuvenation

  • From discord to harmony

  • From impatience to patience

  • From unkindness to kindness

  • From faithlessness to faith

  • From hopelessness to hope

SHINE ON US... AS WE WORK OUT OUR SALVATION...



Scripture says that salvation is a serious business! If you do not believe that God exists and that the Bible is His words to mankind, I respectfully suggest that you study it out with an open mind. There is a link over on the right sidebar to the DOES GOD EXIST? website that will give you much food for thought. Scripture states, in Hebrews 11:6,

"And without faith
it is impossible to please God,
because anyone who comes to Him
must believe that HE EXISTS and
that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him."

Here is a major claim of The Bible:

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says,

"All Scripture is God-breathed
and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work."

.
Please don't get wrapped up in the "gender" statements of scripture. When using terms like "man" here, it is referring to "mankind" in general.

Consider the first verse of our "March Scripture of the Month" and the verses that I have included below it. Ponder your own salvation in light of these scriptures and the scriptures and discussions that will follow in the next few days...

Philippians 2:12
"Therefore, my dear friends, as you have ALWAYS OBEYED-
not only in my presence,
but now much more in my absence-
continue to WORK OUT YOUR OWN SALVATION
with fear and trembling..."

"Work out your own salvation?" What does that mean? Over the years I have met many people with amazing stories of seeking to find the truth about salvation/eternal life or "the true light". Recently, I have come to know an older couple who have come to Christ after first experiencing Hindu and Jehovah's Witnesses. They continued to pray, question, and seek for answers to eternal life. Two things that seekers learn when they study scripture is:


  1. "The word" can refer to scripture.

  2. "The Word" refers to Jesus Christ.

John 1:1-5 says,
"In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through Him all things were made;

without Him nothing was made that has been made.
In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness,
but the darkness has not understood it. "

Seekers, will not always find their answers in black and white. They will not always understand it in their first searches. Much like putting a 1,000 piece puzzle together, the big picture will come together in time. For some it takes longer than others. Like my friends, many find that their search has roadblocks because there is an enemy.

Yesterday, as I was traveling around to meet and observe with different Clinical Practice students, I was listening to christian radio in the car. I heard multiple declarations made over the airwaves that gave me reason for concern... were these declarations really "truth"? Part of the verse above "continue to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling..." connects to the daily spiritual battle for our souls between the forces of darkness and THE LIGHT.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 says,
"For such men are false apostles,

deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades
as an angel of light.
It is not surprising, then,
if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness.
Their end will be what their actions deserve."

Earlier in this same book of the Bible, it refers to Satan as "the god of this age".

2 Corinthians 4:2-6
"...we have renounced secret and shameful ways;
we do not use deception,
nor do we distort the word of God.
On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly
we commend ourselves to every man's conscience
in the sight of God...
...The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers,
so that they cannot see
the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ,
who is the image of God.
For we do not preach ourselves,
but Jesus Christ as Lord,
and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.
For God, who said,
"Let light shine out of darkness,"
made His light shine in our hearts
to give us the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God in the face of Christ."

1 John 1:5-7
"This is the message we have heard from Him

and declare to you:
God is light;
in Him there is no darkness at all.
If we claim to have fellowship with Him
yet walk in the darkness,
we lie and do not live by the truth.
But if we walk in the light,
as He is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, His Son,
purifies us from all sin."
