Piecing in Portland 5

Another UFO that has been sitting in a box waiting for attention.  Really all I did was sew four seams and this was a finished top!  But I had been deliberating about offsetting the rows.  In the end we decided the straight setting was perfect.
This is a big quilt.  Too big (and white) to take out into the winter wind on the rocks.  And so big it drapes nicely over the bed, but not so great for photos.
I might have finished this quilt top and found yet another perfectly matching backing for my quilt!
(I tell you Widebacks has a great range!)
BUT this one is going to sit awhile before I come to a decision about how to ask the long armer to quilt it...and find the money!
This neglected wall hanging got dragged to Portland.  I loved the pattern but didn't read it before hand and just assumed it was a little wallhanging.  But it is not.  So the temptation to make it bigger, eg lap size was great.
Vicki helped me with the maths to get the Raspberry flying geese to work.  I had cut them all out with the Go cutter, so I was sure they were correct.  But let me assure you I spent a lot of time unpicking and re sewing seams to get them to fit.  Obviously my original quarter inch seam in the first place was not true.  So after a fair bit of mucking around it all worked out just fine.
I am in love with this Raspberry shade of red.
But this project is going back in its box for me to contemplate its future eg. does it get another border and if so is it flying geese?

More finished mini quilts!

This cute little dolls quilt has been a short WIP.  It was finished while my computer was offline, but I was also holding off revealing it, as it was intended as a gift for a friend who follows my blog.
I amended the pattern (original was on point) Shoofly Potpie by Kim Diehl from her book Simple Traditions.
You cannot see the border quilting very well, but I machine quilted a cable pattern.  It was fairly easy using my walking foot, but my marking pen was hard to see on the beige fabric.  The ideal marking pen is out there and one day I am going to find it!
This larger mini quilt is from Lori DeJarnatt's quilt along, Country Roads, so a few stencils later  and I found one that fitted this quilt that I could achieve on the machine!  I do really need to start hand quilting the little quilts...but I am a machine girl : )
Didn't take long, just the right frame of mind to get stuck into it.

Work in Progress, Churn dash wall hanging

So this wall hanging, was waiting on a border.
Then when I found a piece of fabric that suited it...that was large enough, we (Lisa and I) decided that another border of flying geese was a good idea.
But then I ran out of raspberry toned prints.
Why of why do I only buy small pieces of reproduction fabrics??!
So we went on a road trip to buy more fabric!
Disclaimer: The brown leaf print is just because and the brown stripe is the background I need to finish the Dresden's. ; )

Cave Hill Camp

I use to attend the Cave Hill camp with my local group many years ago before we moved interstate.  The group then decided to stop attending, but a few of the original members kept the weekend booking and new ladies from near and far started attending, creating a new group of friends.
So while there were some familiar faces there were lots of new friends to make.  There was a mix of quilters and knitters.  It was perfect weather for knitting by the big open fire....I cannot knit so I had to sew!  I had pre cut out these two projects.  The spools mini I brought at Periwinkle Patchwork in April it is a Thimble Blossoms mini pattern and finishes 14" x 16".  I just need to quilt it now.

This is the pattern by Creek Side Stitches (finishes 30"x30") that I was gifted in my mini swap earlier this year.  I was short two flying geese and didn't bring any of the background or blue fabrics, so couldn't stitch the last flying geese or solid border on.
I saved all the bonus triangles from making the flying geese and stitched half of them up into this design.  They were 1 3/4" units and finish at 1 1/4" so getting points was tricky, but most worked out OK.  I didn't have any extra fabric, but will do a shirting border and then perhaps a final border.
I also precut lots of novelty and solid brights with my new tumbler die.  I was doing this as a leaders and enders, but had quite a few hours spare on Sunday to put it all together before we left.  It might need to be a bit longer and definitely needs a border, but was happy to get this much done!  I have loads of tumblers left over though, so looks like I will be making two in this design!
Mum made this cot quilt top from start to finish - she had not pre cut anything as they only got home from a  6 week interstate holiday mid week.  Mum also started another cot quilt (sorry no pictures) and finished all the blocks on a UFO, so was very pleased with her progress!

Kim Diehl star in a churn dash blocks

I was just popping in to read some of my favorite bloggers, after a six month absence!  Then I saw that there was this draft post, so figure...
