This is a continuation from here. With any girly holidays, naturally a spa visit is a MUST. So after a satisfying martini-laden lunch on Friday, we staggered off in search of a spa. Okay. Okay. It was not that bad. We were not drunk. We actually sat and chatted over cups of latte and tea for a couple of hours.... :-P
Took a cab to coast along Jalan Seminyak Raya in search of a spa. When CC saw a sign for 'Jari Menari ' (translation: Dancing Fingers), she directed the taxi driver to go there. We were wondering why he was SNIGGERING away and seems too amused with his repeat of the shop's name. When we got into the shop, we found out that ALL the masseuse are MEN. No wonder the stupid taxi driver was sniggering away lah... he must be wondering this FOUR ladies gonna have some 'fun' in this place. Immediately thoughts of whether this place provides a bona-fide massage or otherwise crept up in our minds.
CC and JC read the brochure and I remember the words "professionally-trained" were mentioned. But WN and I were not comfortable to have male masseuses. I would be too conscious to relax and enjoy the massage. I will probably be mumbling "don't go there. don't go there" in my mind!
CC and JC were quite keen to try it, especially the FOUR hands massage but again... they weren't sure if the masseuses are really "professional". What if they are TOO sexy for the masseuse? And he cannot tahan. How?
We decided to give it a miss...
Later on, I had to google 'Jari Menari' and what do you know? It's rated No.1 Attraction in Seminyak on TripAdvisor. Some of the reviews... damn funny. Expressions like "Floated out of the Room"... CC was really keen to also "float out of the room"!
Basically, it is a bona-fide place. Not one with hanky-panky. It even provides massages for kids.
We went to Espace (No.2 on TripAdvisor) the following day. I have to say that it slightly less than satisfactory in my opinion. The premises are so-so. Showers are small and located away from the massage rooms. There are no proper hangers nor tables in the rooms to hang our clothes/store our items. The masseuse seems to be rushing to meet the 90-minute duration. There are many spas in Jakarta that have better facilities and do a better job. Most of the spas that I go to here have showers in every room; proper hangers and little boxes etc to store jewellery etc. So much more convenient. Can you imagine if you have had a scrub, and you need to dart out to the common shower room but it is occupied? Adoi!
That was my only spa visit in Bali. The other two ladies, JC and WN were on a spa-mode and visited the spa across from our hotel twice. Yup. 3 Spa visits in 4 days...
CC and I were more into lounging by the beach ... she with her Chit Lit and me with my....... iGCSE Maths!!! Hahhahah Nope. Not kidding. I was reading up on the syllabus and doing some revision (going to start tutoring.. my first class is today!), and that brought upon some questions regarding S1's Maths class at school. That started a whole chain reaction which resulted in more worries & stress for me, and a meeting with the Class Rep for Year 9 that will take place this morning at 10 AM. That will be in a separate post... don't wanna spoil this post. It is a HOLIDAY post after all.......
Basically, we didn't do any real sightseeing. Just hopping around to different places having tea, coffee and makan-makan. This allowed us to visit EXPENSIVE resorts that we would never have stayed-in, like the Como Shambala and the Ubud Hanging Gardens. With prices from USD 500 and 300/ nite respectively, it is definitely OUT of our price range. But these resorts are very very nice lor.
As WN have not been to Bali, and is planning to come with her family in June; I was more-or-less telling her the things-to-do in Bali with kids. And as Sobek (White-Water Rafting Company) is just next door to the Como Shambala, she was interested to have a look at the facilities .... thinking she could do this with her son and hubs in June. The Sobek supervisor was kind enough to walk us to the starting point (okay... not the whole way but up to where the path descends down to the Ayung). Haven't even reach, WN was grabbing my arm so hard cause she was afraid of heights. As we approached the edge, she just stopped and squatted at the side.... TERRIFIED. The three of us couldn't help laughing (okay. very very bad friends to be laughing at her vertigo but it was indeed very funny) and took our time taking photographs of the beautiful views. The Sobek supervisor wanted to guide her towards the edge but she just refused and wouldn't budge from her position! We had to go and squat with her to get a picture together (no view lah, of course). Needless to say, White-Water Rafting will NOT be in her itinerary.
Okay... gotta go. Continue later...

Back to the Daily Grind...
Yup. After 4 nights away from hubby, kids and chores, it's back to the daily grind.
So much so that I actually went straight from the airport to the supermarket to get some groceries.
4 nights is waaaaaay too short. :-(
But better than nothing lah.
I had a great time. Eating, Drinking, Gossiping, Chatting, Sharing, Crying, Sighseeing, Spa-ing and of course LAUGHING. Lots and lots of it.
This is what to be expected from FOUR patt-pohs!
Never miss my annual girly holiday with my girlfriends from home. They flew into Denpasar an hour earlier on Friday (25th March), and waited for me at the Black Canyon Cafe over at the airport. Blur-Blur Nomadic Mom could not find the Cafe, and thought it was closed. Called the girls and had a loud "IT IS OPEN. WE ARE INSIDE" blurted into my ear. And when I reached the Cafe, I saw a table with 3 ladies and without bothering to look at their faces, I blabbered away.... And what do you know? It wasn't my friends. Hahahhahaha. They were all sitting INSIDE the cafe. You say lah. Blur or not??
Anyway, we stayed 3 nights in a budget 3* hotel (Puri Saron on Seminyak Beach because one of my gf had 2 nights FREE. This works out to be only RM 240 per person for the 3 nights. Needless to say.... budget means no-frills in the rooms. Though I did not get bitten by bed bugs, my pillows smelled funny and I had to have my sarong draped over them. The room also didn't smell too pleasant, and the shower rail design was rather odd such that when you shower, the toilet seats will certainly get wet. The service is so-so and they didn't really have enough deck chairs. The only plus thing is that it is located right on the beach. Luckily we spent most days out of the hotel....
Nope. Will NOT stay in this hotel again.
After 3 nights, two of my gfs left for home but CC and I stayed on another night. We moved to a nicer hotel in Tanjung Benoa - The Bali Khama. Have to say that this resort is sooooooo much better. The room smells good and so did my pillows. Everything was much better. It was of course more expensive lor. Prepaid a discounted non-refundable rate of USD 123 per night for the room a few months back. Compare this approx. RM 369 per room per night with our budget RM 160 per room per night. Sure 'yatt fann cheen, yatt fann for'.
I supposed the first 3 nights in the budget was also good.... allowed us to splurge in our culinary adventures.
Where did we go?
Friday Lunch @ Anantara, Seminyak with 'shaken not stirred' Lychee Martinis
Friday Dinner @ Jimbaran Bay for seafood (More for the ambience and environment rather than the food)
Saturday Lunch @ Gabah, Kuta for yummy Indonesian foods
Saturday Drinks @ The hotel's beach bar Saturday Dinner @ Chandi, Seminyak with very potent Sangria
Sunday Coffee @ Como Shambala, Ubud
Sunday Lunch @ Ibu Oka, Ubud for BABI GULING
Sunday Tea @ Ubud Hanging Gardens
Sunday Dinner @ La Lucciola, Seminyak (Lovely beach front views!)
Monday Lunch @ Bali Khama's poolside
Monday Dinner @ Tao for Thai food
AND today, Tuesday?? Errrr... McDonald's lunch at the Airport!!
More about my holiday later...

Bye-Bye DC
Wow! Time really does fly. With a blink of an eye, 5 nights here in Washington DC has gone by. Yeah, 5 nights in DC seems a lot but not when you consider us flying in late and flying out early....and the spending a day out at the factory outlets. Donno why the day we were due to go out to the factory outlets, I dreamt of Laundryamah. Both she and I were flying to London for shopping and on the plane, I found out that she has bought 2 seats for herself....so that she could have the extra 20 kg baggage allowance!!! She is the most shopaholic friend that I have. I kept telling H that if Laundryamah comes to the states for shopping, she sure will go GILA!!! Espeacially when there is a sale at the outlets. can you imagine Cole Haan shoes at USD 45 per pair???? I bought 3 pairs...I think Laundryamah would buy like 10 pairs!!
Okay lah...continue later. Think my free airport wifi is going to run out soon.

Dum-Dum
I am a REAL dum-dum.
I knew I was going to Moscow and then the US. And what do you know??? On my flight to Singapore from KUL, I suddenly thought about my US visa. Is it in my current passport or in my old passport? Just 15 minutes before touching down at Changi, I rummaged through my handbag to get my passport. Lo and behold - my current passport do NOT have my US visa. Almost had a heart attack. The moment I got down from the plane, H was waiting at the gate....and immediately could tell something was wrong. Told him what happened and he was pretty calm. I thought he would surely kill me!
First thing to do was to see if we could change our flight to the following day. But flights were full......especially for redemption tickets. Then H said we should get my friend to go to our house to get my passport from our safe. This friend ... Can trust la. Called her up and she agreed to drive to my house. A day later, she would have been away in the mountains with her family. Also, maid was still in the house... So gave instructions on how to open safe over the phone. Aiyo.... Think 5th try only managed to have the safe opened, got my passport, checked US visa in there, close safe then lock it back. Passport then given to H's colleague who was summoned to our house to collect my passport.
Passport then passed to H's secretary on Friday morning to be couriered. It's like a big operation...friend, maid, colleague, secretary and now DHL ... All because of my stupidity!!! And donno why the package has to go to London first....and am told package will only arrive in Moscow on Tuesday. And you know what? My flight is on Tuesday. So what to do? Have to postpone the flight to the US. And since there will not be a flight on Wednesday to Houston, we can only fly out on Thursday. H says my c@ck-up has forced us to stay 2 extra days in this boring city! ;-(
So many things to change not to mention the list $$$$. We will have to rebook our Houston - New Orleans flights, extra 2 nights hotel in Moscow, the prepaid rooms at Houston and one night of New Orleans room. *sigh* really don't know how come I can be so dum-dum. This is not the first time I travel to the US summore!!!
Anyway, the last we checked, the package just left Jakarta this afternoon. Probably going to Singapore then London and then finally to Moscow. Now we are in Cafe Vogue in Moscow, and H is just wondering out loud if he can entice the 3 middle-aged Russian ladies in the other table to give him a cigarette. Told him to go ahead....,
Okay. Gotta go sort out our Houston - New Orleans flights with this free wifi. Tata

Some Updates.... 2 July 2010
Last Day of School
Yup. Today is the LAST day of the school year....and then it's a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong Summer Break of games, TV, and what-nots till the boys' eyes pop out! Any ideas of how to entertain them outside the realm of electronics? I've signed (or rather got my sister to do the leg work) at a Football Camp for only four days. What about the other weeks?? Need to put them in Mandarin Classes too....
Guessed the boys are also gonna have a ball of a time at school today... no studying. Just fun fun fun. They ditched their school uniform for casual clothes this morning, and brought cupcakes to be shared with their friends.
Closure
There was a small service at school for Sei Young yesterday.... Only Year 8 students and family were invited. I supposed this service is to provide some kind of a closure for the school and the students. Before I even went into the theatre, I already started crying. I just broke down when I saw her parents walk into the foyer....her father carrying a photograph, the way how we Asians carry the deceased's photograph. A parent is not meant to do this for their child!
The service started with her friends describing how she was, her smiles, her antics...and how they missed them. We had speeches/ prayers by the heads of the school and and also the key SAR coordinator. When the photo presentation of Sei Young came up on screen, I could see her mother breaking down.... Oh how I feel for her. As a mother, you can imagine her pain, sorrow and grief.... But we really cannot imagine how she is feeling. I am sure the pain is too great to put in words. When the service ended, I just had to give my S1 a big big hug.
There was another service yesterday at the Korean Union Church...opened for all. I forgot about this one, and when my friend texted to ask if I was going, I absent-mindedly said YES as I was thinking of the service at school. .... May Sei Young be at Peace....
Terrible Terrible
Don't know why suddenly why all my PY2B posts are of the sad sad topics....which require me to write about the recent tragic events. It feels absolutely terrible to use these tragic events to earn a few bucks. Please forgive me.....
Time for GoodByes...
This year the turnover of expats is especially HIGH. I have so many good friends leaving. I supposed we feel it more this time because this posting is by far the longest for both H and me. Previously, we are the ones that would leave after 1 1/2 to 2 years....
This year, many people are leaving...both at school as well as H's office. My poor H has no more good pals at work that he can go out drinking or gila-ing with. He used to play in every Tuesday in the pool league but not anymore....as his kakis have all gone to the Middle East. And yesterday, he was at a farewell for another colleague/friend who will return to Australia. And another colleague/friend who will be off to South Africa in August. What about us? You ask? I don't know when or where we will be going next.... Yes. He was offered to go to the Middle East. And Nope. He doesn't want to go there.
Both S1 and S2 have very good friends leaving too. I am sure you have heard me mention S1's friend T who lives down the road from us. The family will relocate to Seoul.... Not only the boys will miss them. I will too! T's mom had just given me her Klik-n-Kut Cutter!!!! I came home one day, and there it was ....RIGHT at my door! Eh. This thing costs a few hundred dollars. Told her I couldn't accept it...but she was adamant that I keep it. She said she wouldn't have space in her shoebox apartment in Seoul. I will post a pic later...
Well...THANK YOU, S!
And then there's another family....who will relocate back to Switzerland. These two families are the ones that the boys usually have sleepovers with... Either at their place or ours. *sigh* ...
Well, will definitely visit them one of these days.. Hey. Maybe end of this year SKIING holiday for the boys? Both Seoul and Switzerland and both SKIING destinations. Can plan, yeah?
Another family...also leaving to go to Singapore. This friend of mine has been here for the longest of time, think maybe 9 years? Ever since I knew her four years ago, she has been saying that they are leaving. They are leaving...and never happen. This year...finally confirmed.
And then there's of course the other families that are leaving...that I am not to close with...
You know what sucks? It's when your friendship has grown a little closer and then you find that you will have to lose the friend....Okay. Maybe not lose lose per se. But you know what I mean, right???
Travel back to Malaysia
Boys and I will be going to back to Malaysia on Tuesday, 13th July...on one of the AirAsia flights...don't know which one; and staying on till the 11th of August. I actually leave for Moscow on the 15th of July.... and will only get back on the morning of 1st August 2010...and off to Penang on the 7th. I supposed that leaves me only 5 full days in PJ to do what I wanna do..... Yeah. Sounds kinda packed...
Okay lah. Later...

Bali with the Girls
As mentioned previously, I went to Bali with the girls on Friday, 30 April 2010 for three nights. Our hotel was only finalised the day before..... Was wondering if we might have to sleep on Kuta beach or something. :-P
C wanted to try out The InterContinental Hotel, and as all three of us are going to bunk together in one room, figured that the cost won't be too exorbitant. Eh...actually, still exorbitant lor! Paid USD 320 per person for the three nights. Even without the extra bed, the rate was still USD 260 per nite. Gila, right? InterCont is nice...but not sooooooo special lor. Seriously, I wouldn't have paid that rate if travelling with my family. Plus now with the boys bigger, I would need two rooms! Waliow! Over USD 500 per nite?
Khai-wann-siow!!!
Plus I find the hotel toooooooooooo big..over 400 rooms. To walk from our room to the lobby is like doing a marathon. I think a hotel of about 200 rooms would be just right. They are small enough to walkabout, and big enough to have all the facilities that we want - pool bar, beach bar, restaurants, etc.
Anyway, I digress.
The first thing we did when we arrived was to reserve spots at the Must-Go restaurants with the help of the hotel conceirge. We then headed out to Kuta area as C wanted to buy some swimwear. I had bought mine from a specialty shop last year, and C seems to like the design....so that's where we went. Alamak! Cannot remember the name now... but it's on the one way street that winds towards Kuta Beach. That woman bought two pairs. The shopkeeper was very happy!
We then jalan-jalan abit around the shops and market.... I bought this el cheapo white dress for wearing on the beach over my swimwear. Paid USD 4 for it. Cannot complain lah...so cheap. From Kuta, we went over to Metis for dinner.
Metis is the new name for the famed former Kafe Warisan. It has since relocated, and changed its name to Metis. More canggih? I don't know. But certainly less than a mouthful. The new location is bigger, but the look almost the same. Open terrace overlooking rice fields. Food is still as ever good! The foie gras - YUM! YUM!
Metis Signature Dish...Pan-Fried Foie Gras
It was indeed a really memorable dinner... good food, good company and some good eye candy!
On Day 2 - We were contemplating to go to either St. Regis or Bulgari to have breakfast. But lazy gals like us decided to just pop over to The Four Seasons. Why need to find breakfast? Aiya...the rate for first night do NOT include breakfast leh. Anyway, I was in charge of our pool money - and on our way out...contemplated if USD 40 was enough for breakfast. They all said it wouldn't be enough. So what do I do? Trott off back to the room to get more money....which again is like going for a marathon. So blardy far.
We walked on the beach from our hotel to The Four Seasons, and then took their buggy to the main restaurant. Happily ordered the fresh juices, coffee, waffles, pancakes etc...
When the bill came, we almost pengsan. USD 80! For the three of us!!
When we got back to the hotel, we continued where we left off at the hotel beach bar. Nice nice...with the sea breeze in your hair, sand in between your toes....

We then jalan-jalan abit around the shops and market.... I bought this el cheapo white dress for wearing on the beach over my swimwear. Paid USD 4 for it. Cannot complain lah...so cheap. From Kuta, we went over to Metis for dinner.
Reserved Table
With Compliments from the Four Seasons....
(Can you see my box of BRANDS Chicken Essence??)
(Can you see my box of BRANDS Chicken Essence??)
When the bill came, we almost pengsan. USD 80! For the three of us!!
We decided from then on that we should tone down on our spending....hehehehe. No more expensive meals!!! But we were going to kudeta later that night. So how?
Just go for drinks and not for dinner lor.
Just go for drinks and not for dinner lor.
We spent the rest of the day lounging by the beach.... was deciding whether to go for a massage but again, was kinda expensive so gave it a miss.
We had wanted to catch the sunset at kudeta.... But when we arrived there, we saw that tonnes of people also had the same idea. Surfer dudes in shorts and all. Kinda rowdy. Certainly not the kudeta I remembered. But as the night wore on, the crowds thinned and the atmosphere became more inviting.
We stayed till our stomachs growled. C recommended a restaurant where the locals go....supposed to be great food, great ambience at local prices. However, the silly taxi driver couldn't find the place. We were so hungry that we had dinner at Ikan Bakar Cianjur! At least, it was cheap!
When we got back to the hotel, we continued where we left off at the hotel beach bar. Nice nice...with the sea breeze in your hair, sand in between your toes....
Day 3 - We hired a car and driver and went to Ubud. C wanted to purchase some paintings. That woman ah. Donno anything about art but want to spend RM 2000 per painting. And she was looking for two pieces. She almost made one of the artist gila by repeatedly asking what his inspiration was when he painted a particular piece. I was like whispering...money is the inspiration lah. The piece that she was referring to is a very generic piece of art that you can find EVERYWHERE. Aduh....
We had Babi Guling at Ibu Oka of course. That is a MUST in Ubud, right? Jalan-Jalan in Pasar Ubud and some streets; and then went to a spa recommended by the driver.
Aiyo. Beh-sai lah the spa. The moment I went into the room, I was like "Ah? No air-con?"...but since the others spa-ing, I also go lor. Then I went onto the bed, aiyer...the towel where they put around the hole (for your head) have some kind of smell... I clenched my teeth and reluctantly placed my face onto the yucky towel. As if that is not enough, I looked down onto the floor. Nope! No bowl of flowers. Not only that, got stains on the floor one. Aiyer...really really beh-sai. When the masseuse told me to turn over, my chest was like drenched with my sweat. Aduh! No air-con really beh-sai lah. Really disappointing spa experience! Next time, must do research! Cannot simply go to Ah-Chue Ah-Kow Spa. Aiyaya.
However, the coffee place that he recommended was not too bad.... At least a positive thing after my bad spa experience. Then it was time to head back to Jimbaran Bay, where we had seafood dinner on the beach.

So-so food at exorbitant tourist prices...but nice ambience. We talked. We laughed. We cried. Errr...actually, only I cried. We drank. We sang....until we were the last patrons there. They must be eager to get rid of us as they brought us our bill without us requesting for it. Heheheh...
Day 4 - When we woke up, S had already left. She had an early morning flight back to KUL. C and I had breakfast together...and then I went for a massage at the hotel spa. Yes. It was expensive...and honestly, not worth the money. But I come all the way, must at least try out the spa at The Intercontinental, right? At least, I know...and can say it's not all that great. The spa definitely looks, smells and feels 100 x better than the one we went to in Ubud. But the massage is so-so. The masseuse at my regular spa here in Jakarta is waaaaay better, and at a fraction of the price!

I practically was running from the spa to the room, and then out to catch a cab to the airport. Started to panic when I saw roads were closed for a religious procession. Almost missed my flight!!
As for C, she opted to stay an additional night.....
Till our next Girly Holiday!

Aiya.......what a bummer!
A bummer indeed!
Just got back into town from Bali.
Thought that after my Bali trip with my girlfriends, everything will be better. I've shared my feelings about the miscarriage with the girls. Talked about it to death. Cried enough. Endured the cramps and heavy bleeding.
But. But. A check-up with my obgyn this afternoon revealed that the medication did not expel all the products of conception. The embryo is gone but still lots of blood and the placenta is still in there. Bleah...
Make my mood back to pre-Bali only.
Bleah...
Going into the hospital tomorrow morning to have D&C.
*sigh*

City of Angels - Part 1
No. I don't mean Los Angeles..... but Bangkok.
Went to Bangkok with Laundryamah last Friday (24th July) for two nights. You could say two nights is both too few and also too many. Too few because we didn't manage to visit many other places other than three shopping malls. Didn't manage to visit any markets. Too many because if it were more days, we would have to declare bankrupt!!! Everywhere was on SALE!!!
This Laundryamah really can SHOP!!!!!!
Waliow! SHOP until almost have no dinner on Saturday nite. All the restaurants were closing and thus refusing more patrons. Almost have to return back to the hotel to make instant noodles! Lucky there were some restaurants near to our hotel that were still open. We had Italian food. Not great but at least kept our tummies full!
This trip is INDEED an expensive one. Not because that I shopped alot BUT because I lost one of my Mikimotos. It was about 6 pm and we were shopping at Siam Paragon when I touched my left ear and discovered that my earring was gone!!!
BOOOOOO HOOOO HOOOO
Sooooooo sad!!!
I must be moaning and groaning like a wailing cat, and irritated the shit out of Laundryamah that she prompted me to replace the lost earring immediately
DING DING DING. Isn't that a great idea?
Surely there is a Mikimoto outlet at Siam Paragon. And yes. There was one!!!
No. They don't sell just one earring. So what did I do?
Bought another pair lor......
More later... DinnerTIME now.

RUN RUN RUN...
Remember my last trip to Hong Kong during Easter 2008?
I was sick most of the time that we didn't do much... and certainly did not visit the cheapest tourist attraction in HK.
Which is that??
The Star Ferries, of course.
Not that I purposely went to take a ride on the Star Ferries, but this year, somehow seemed to be going over to Kowloon side more. And each time, having to run to catch them before they depart. It's really RUN RUN RUN. Certainly not used to running to catch my ride! Hee hee....

I had a glass of Prosecco by the harbour...It was rather refreshing and I could have had a couple more if it weren't for the fact that we had to rush back to the apartment for the Seafood meal that Mr L was preparing..... so.....

Why go over to Kowloon side?
- to Wong Tai Sin temple...
- to Harbour City a couple of times...
- to my tea at The Peninsula that didn't happen...
A friend from KL, R was also in town. Actually, not a coincidence. H coaxed him to fly over so that the boys (as in BIG boys) can go to Macau to try their hand at the tables. R arrived on Thursday (9th April) morning; and that evening, the three BIG boys, H, R and Mr L (our host) went off on the hydrofoil to Macau. The three boys only came back just as we were waking up on Friday morning. I'm sure they had fun as all brought back some $$ winnings. :-)
After Friday's dimsum lunch at Chung's Cuisine @ Times Square, and marketing (for the home-cooked seafood dinner), R said that he wanted to go to Wong Tai Sin Temple...as he always does whenever he is in HK. So, I 'off-loaded' my boys with Mr L and wife, C and went off with R, together with H.
We got conned by an Apoh at the temple MTR station. She was selling some joss sticks, candles and prayer paper. Seeing that she is so "kesihan", we bought from her. But at the entrance of the temple, we were told that we had to dispose our candles and prayer papers.... Only the joss sticks were allowed. Oh well...
Look-see/window-shopped around Tsim Tsa Tsui and Harbour City, before sitting by the harbour for a drink.

A Cruise Ship @ The Harbour
Quick! Get through the Turnstiles!!!
Approaching Central Pier
And we had a lovely dinner of Singapore-style Mud Crabs, Steamed Flower Crab, Steamed Giant Shellfish, Stir-Fried Clams etc....prepared by Mr L.
We were supposed to go to Lan Kwai Fong to have after-dinner drinks.... R, C and myself were pretty keen to go. You know lah...from the TVB series, they always say "ngo tei huei Lan Kwai Fong yamm yia loh!". Heee heee BUT both H and Mr L was sooooo Ah Pek, and didn't want to leave the house. So we had to make-do with drinks in the apartment. We lit some candles, and then opened a couple of bottles of wine. I have to say that we had a FUN time...talking about old times, old friends, ghostly experiences, ex-girlfriends, ex-boyfriends etc etc... We even prank call a friend in KL. Hahahaha.... Yah. Like kids! Went to bed pretty late. R went to sleep with the two older kids.
Yah. That night, there were 11 people sleeping in the apartment.
- Mr L, C and their 3 boys
- Me, H and our 2 boys
- R
- the maid
But then they had recently moved to a bigger apartment... a 2,700 sq ft unit in the same development.... Gigantic for HK standards. So not too bad lah.
R left the next morning.....to go back to KL. He only stayed in HK for two nights, or more correctly, one night in Macau and one night in HK. :-)
After sending R off on the Airport Express, we all headed out to Cheung Chau Island.
More about our experience in the old pirate hide-out later....

London Trip - Part 2
For Part 1, go here.

Friday, 20th February
Jet-lagged. Jet-lagged.
Woke up very early. Decided to take a walk through the park....
Scenes in the Park

No lah. Didn't attempt to feed the ducks nor the swans. Scared! Scared!
We actually walked from High Street Ken all the way to Marble Arch.
Around Lancaster Gate, my thighs were itching like NO tomorrow. Think too long haven't walked so much plus also the cold air that were the culprit.
We took the tube from Marble Arch to Leicester Square to have breakfast. Wanted to have porridge and knew of a shop that's open 24-hours. Food is crap but what to do? Want to have porridge! Old liow lah....
Jalan-jalan on Oxford Street, then went to Harrods for lunch. H had Grilled Lamb and I had Roast Duck. After lunch, proceeded to look at all the yummy foods in the Food Hall. You know me lah. I like to look at all these things. But H was like pestering me to go look at other stuff (like handbags, shoes, clothes, bracelet) in Harrods. I said I don't have anything to buy, and if I do, I won't buy them in Harrods....... and then we started arguing.
Sooooo silly!!!
Arguing because I don't want to do any shopping!!!!!!
We actually stormed out of Harrods angry at each other!!!
What did we do? Take tube back to High Street Ken lor.
Then he said "Hrmf. You can go back to the hotel. I'm off to Marks and Spencer".
I don't want to go back what. So I went to Marks also lah.
But I went to sit in the cafe and had a very yummy, gooey Treacle Tart!
Absolutely Heaven!!!
Somehow, started a conversation with some guy and his son. Apparently he's some author. Can't remember his name though.
Anyway, met my sister, G for dinner at Halepi Greek Restaurant. I thought it was two roads away from Queenway. Aduh! Actually, it's FOUR roads away on Leinster Terrace. Called G to ask lah. So blurr lah me.

Think we ordered a Greek Salad, Taramasalata, Moussaka and a Baby Lamb dish. But I was so stuffed from my Treacle Tart that I didn't eat much. H and G ate most of the food.
Saturday, 21 Feb
Mmm...what did we do in the morning??
Jalan-jalan on High Street Ken. Bought a pair of boots at Russell & Bromley (photo later, yah?), shirts for H and some gifts for my friend, SH and family. Met them for lunch at Royal China in Bayswater. Perhaps I should have gone earlier to queue..... as we had to queue almost an hour for a table. Kinda long wait for SH's two little sons. Her hubby, WK was saying that if it's not because of us, they wouldn't have travelled down to London. The last time they were here was ten months ago! He's really quite keen to go back and settle in Malaysia...but SH is not too keen. Really hard life!!! Having two young kids here in UK without help!! I think I would have gone mad!!
Did go back to the hotel for a rest (aiya...old liow lah) before going to Covent Garden in the evening.
Pre-Theatre Drinks with Music at Covent Garden

G said that in order to be a busker at Covent Garden, one actually has to audition for it.
Not just simply go there a chuup a spot can liow!SHUCKS! That means, I cannot go there and sing my woh-chai-teng-ni-hwei-lai woh-chai-teng-ni-hwei-lai....
Heheheheh...
We then went to the Lyceum Theatre for Disney's Lion King.

Before we went in, H told me to not WAKE him up if he falls asleep.
Aduh! We had tickets for the STALLS okay!!! Good seats leh. Go in and sleep???
But then, I have to say that only the beginning and end when all the animals are out is NICE. There's this particular girl in the role of cheetah. She was good.
The middle bit was quite boring. I also had a hard time keeping awake...but did stay awake throughout the show.
I did see H nodding off...and left him as is. BUT I had to nudge him when he started to SNORE!!!! TWICE I had to nudge him to STOP snoring.
In summary... too much hype leading to disappointment!

Blogger Meet-Up
This is a backdated post.
Backdated to last year.... 9 December 2008 to be exact.
Despite of their very busy schedules, Mott and Sandee very graciously met up with me for dinner on Tuesday (9 Dec '08) evening. As I didn't want to bring the boys, nor want to venture too far from our apartment at St. Kilda Road, the ladies suggested that we meet at the restaurant at The Tolarno Hotel on Fitzroy Street.
I happily left the boys (all three of them) to their oven-ready dinners, and walked to the tram stop across from our apartment. A tram arrived quite immediately, and I thought "Wah..so lucky. No need to wait"...and then the tram just whoooooosh passed. Eh??? I didn't know that I had to hail one leh! What to do? Waited for the next tram to come by, and wave like crazy woman!!!
Also blurr-blurr inside the tram. Wondering how to work the ticket machine. Bet people must be wondering where this swa-koo Chinesey woman come from??!?!?
This blurr Chinesey woman did get out at the right stop, (Last time we were in Melbourne, we stayed right on Fitzroy St....so this place not entirely alien to me lah...) and reached the restaurant in no time.

Knew that both the ladies had not seen my face...but I was the only Chinesey woman in the restaurant. So naturally, quite easy to single me out lah.
I supposed I was a little direct.....asking the ladies questions NON-STOP. Come to think of it. It did seem like I was interrogating.
SORRY, GALs!!!!
We had a wonderful dinner and conversation..... the ladies were so very generous. NOT only they both got me gifts, they wanted to buy me dinner!!!!
AIYO!
And I on the other hand, came EMPTY-HANDED.
And I on the other hand, came EMPTY-HANDED.
(Actually, I did want to buy them some handicrafts. Went to the shop on my departure day ...but the shops were closed. HONEST!!!!)
I really really felt soooooooooooooooooo bad.
Luckily, managed to convince them to let me pay for my own dinner. Otherwise, will feel doubly bad.
Gifts from the Gals...
Scrapbooking Kits from Mott
Very very Fragrant Soap from Sandee
THANK YOU, LADIES
LOVED THEM VERY MUCH!
After dinner, the ladies came over to our apartment. Supposed to take pictures....but we were chatting away till we forgot to take the intended photos.
Oh well...I'm sure there will be a next time.
RIGHT??

Flight back home from the States
Thought I should finish all my posts of our USA trip before I fly off to Melbourne in less than 2 weeks time.
From my previous post, I wrote about our AA flight from JFK to SFO was delayed. Only found that out when we were at the airport, after checking-in via the auto-machines. Had a shock to see that the boarding time was 3 hours later than our original departure time. This delayed departure would mean that our arrival in SFO would be very very close to our departure flight from SFO to SIN.
So..from NO need to queue at the auto-machines, to a LOOOOOOONG queue of the check-in counters. We tried to get an earlier flight to SFO.
Not possible.
We tried to have our bags directly transferred from the AA flight to our SQ flight at SFO.
Not possible.
H then called SQ to inform them of our impending LATE arrival at SFO.
We were told to notify the AA ground staff on arrival at SFO. And I did that but was rudely brushed aside by the big fat AA ground staff...telling me that I COULD catch my flight. (H had gone ahead to try to retrieve our bags from the carousel and to check-in at SQ counters).
Well, we MISSED our flight from SFO to SIN, and had to stay one night at San Fransisco. out of our own pocket. Supposed to get AA to pay for the one night...as it was their fault. But we couldn't find any AA staff in the airport at that hour (it was almost 1 am), and we were out on the concourse rather than the terminal. *sigh*
Anyways, we manage to get seats on the next SQ flight out, i.e. the 12.40 pm flight (19 Oct) via Seoul. The SQ staff recommend that we stay over at the Hyatt. H and I proceeded out to the Free Hotel Shuttle rank.... I think there were about 3 or 4 different shuttles to other hotels, and the one to Hyatt was still no where to be seen. Was gonna just stay in the other hotels but they were either full or more expensive than the Hyatt. Then another shuttle came. Again. Not Hyatt's. At this ungodly hour, there were no more passengers. This particular Chinese driver said "if you give me tip, I take you to Hyatt".
Of course, we took up his offer.
We had to give the drivers tips regardless....
As he was driving a COMPETITOR hotel's shuttle, he had to drop us out on the main road rather than OUT in FRONT of The Hyatt. :-)
Check-in was seamless. Had a hot shower, and then zzzzzz.
When we woke up, we headed straight to the Airport. Had breakfast in the lounge...FREE ma. What for pay extra to eat the hotel's breakfast?? hahahahhaha
Then I remembered KC. The friend that I didn't manage to meet while I was in San Fransisco...as he was in Boston then. I recalled that he said that he would be on the afternoon flight to Singapore on the 19th. So...I went up to the attendant and check to see if they have this passenger on their list. And lo and behold...she said "he has just checked in five minutes ago". Within ten minutes, he walked into the lounge.
It was GOOD catching up in that hour or so....
No. Not in the plane...He was in the FRONT of the plane, and we were waaaaaaaaay back in the plane. Hahahah.
Luckily, the flight from San Fransisco to Seoul was NOT full. Both H and I managed to have three seats each. ...Our own SLEEPER BEDs. Economy-style. :-)
On arrival at Seoul, we did meet up with my friend again.
The flight from Seoul to Singapore was really really full. And I mean 100% full. So no choice but to get squashed up in our little seat. But at least this leg is not that long. By the time we arrived in Singapore and catch a taxi to sister's place, it was like 2 AM already!!!
The next morning, we had breakfast as one of the nearby foodcourts in a market, and then dad (Yup. Dad was in Singapore then...helping sis with babysitting and cooking) drove us to the airport for our flight home.
All and all. H and I had a good trip to the USA.
:-)

Day 3 - SF, San Jose, Monterey, Bakersfield...
Sunday, 12th October 2008....

This day was our 12th anniversary... the OFFICIAL ROM one.....
Did not do anything special to celebrate. This was gonna be a loooooooong day.
Firstly, both of us were jet-lagged....and woke up at about 5.30 am. Couldn't go back to sleep. Lazed in bed till it was a decent time to get breakfast.
We went to a nearby diner for brekkie. As I was really starving, announced LOUDLY to H that this time, I do NOT want to share! I want my OWN portion!!!!
What a mistake it was!!!
I had ordered scrambled eggs with sausages; and H - bacon omelet.
Aduh! The portions were HUGE! And came with loads of hash browns and bread.
I didn't even touch my scrambled eggs...as I tucked into H's 3-egg bacon omelet.
This was a waste of money. *sigh*
After breakfast, it was still too early to do anything. Our plan was to be at HT's house at about 9.30 am....and it was still too early to start our journey. So....hung around at Union Square. Two gila Ah Beng and Ah Lian in the middle of the square taking photos...actually..more of the Ah Lian forcing the Ah Beng to take photo. Heeeeheee
Union Square, San Fransisco
(There's also another Union Square in NYC)
The Powell & Hyde Tram
After sitting awhile in the middle of the square like 'sor-lous', we decided to just check-out from the hotel and head-off. (HT said that she called me at the hotel and was shocked that we already checked out at 8 am.) We did drive abit around San Fransisco....went to Chinatown (again....this time by car. The last time was Friday nite which was by foot), and then to Lombard Street (the crookedest street in the world) and then off to San Jose on the highway via the Bay Bridge.
Driving down Lombard Street
(Can't see the curves...Not even from the bottom. I did try to take a pic...Those nice photos you see in postcards must have been taken from an elevated position)
Despite of our slow and leisurely drive, and unplanned stopover at HSBC and Safeway, we made it right on time at HT's house. I thought she said apartment, so when the GPS directed us to a street of houses, I wasn't sure if I got the right place. When I rung her doorbell, I was a little bit cautious in case I got the wrong house.
NOPE. It was indeed the right house. HT, her hubs and little C greeted us at the door!
Sorry...no photos as HT warned me NOT to put any on my blog. Her daughter is sooooo cute. I took tonnes of photos of her and will scrap a page of the various pose of little C munching happily on her snacks. We hung around her house for awhile, and then went to place (errr....donno the name leh) for Dim Sum.
Wow! Very packed restaurant full of Chinese.
After brunch, we went to another place for coffee....again forgot the name..but HT calls it "Disneyland place"...hahahah...cause the buildings are so nicely painted that it does feel like "Main Street USA".
Then....it was time to say our Goodbyes..... Hugs Hugs. Till we meet again, my 'ole friend.
H and I then set the GPS for Pebble Beach, Monterey....... home of the US Open. Took us some time to reach our destination from San Jose. Donno what time but we paid the Entry Fee of USD 9.50 (I think) to enter the Pebble Beach property where the famed 17-mile Drive is located.
View from the Club House
17-Mile Drive
(Can't remember what is this area called)
Famed Tree that has become the Pebble Beach Symbol
(BTW, this tree is trademarked!!! One must not use it's image commercially without the approval of the Pebble Beach company)
From Monterey, we head off towards Bakersfield...where we will put up for the night.
Why Bakersfield?
Not that it is some terrer place. It is quite in the middle of no-where. And it just seems like the best place to put up for the night for our onward journey to Las Vegas....yes, we are going to Sin City. I tell you...the road from Monterey to Bakersfield was really really remote. There was a stretch of 50 miles that has NO town in between whatsoever. Thank goodness for our GPS to guide us through....
Oh yeah... this was my FIRST time driving on the RIGHT side of the road. H was feeling a little tired, so I took over for the 50-mile stretch of ULU land. Straight road, I can handle...if there are turns and such, I think I would be confused as to which lane I am supposed to take.
Anyway, we got into our hotel in Bakersfield at about 8.30 pm. Not too bad lah. We were hoping to eat at the hotel's restaurant...but they were having a private function and was closed. Didn't want to drive out again...so just ate instant noodles in the room (which we got from Safeway earlier). We stayed at the Quality Inn and Suites, which I pre-booked. HT was telling me that I could have just drive into any motel on the way.... But as I was abit kiasu, I decided to just pre-book.
So early nite...and instant noodles on our Anniversary. :-)
Day 2, Back in San Fransisco
Yes. Yes. Very long-winded. Still on Day 2. Continuation from here.
We were soooooo 'eaw kui' (hungry ghost) that when the food came, we just whack. The mussels, prawns and crabs. So...no photos of the yummy seafoods. H did indulge with two glasses of pinot grigio. Me? I had more Chandon bubbly!

As we got into San Fransisco, it was still rather early. Only 4 pm. Told H that we should go straight to Fisherman's Wharf in our rental car, rather than drive back to the hotel. In any case, we have to pay parking charges anyway....so rather than pay parking charges at hotel, and then paying for tram tickets; might as well just pay for the parking charges at Fisherman's Wharf.
Waaaa......seems like whole of San Fransisco was at Fisherman's Wharf.
Why ah?
Even all the car parks were FULL and were quoting USD 40/- per entry 'due to event'.
Errr...what event???
Blurr blurr aje.
Ohhhhh...it was FLEET WEEK and there were AIR DISPLAYS , NAVY SHIPS, NAVY RECRUITMENT DRIVES, LIVE MUSIC etc etc that was taking place at Fisherman's Wharf.
No wonder, I have been hearing LOUD booming noises from fighter jets when I was talking to HT the day before.... and saw air displays as we were approaching the Golden Gate Bridge earlier. Now it all made sense.....the large crowds near the Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf.
Back to looking for a parking spot....was of course NOT willing to pay USD 40/- for parking. Rounded a couple of times, and was going to give up and go back to the hotel...and then H saw an empty spot by the street. And what's more??? There was a surplus of 56 minutes left on the parking meter!!!
I was so happy....like 'chapp tou kamm' (picked up gold) and then H remarked... "Can Spend $$$ on your scrapbooking stuff. Here, save USD 2.50 so happy!" .
Of course what. Better than nothing maaaa.....
First thing that we did was pop into the Crab House at Pier 39 for an early dinner. Not that we were hungry. It's just that we are crabs people...and just couldn't resist the beckoning call of CRABS!!!

We were soooooo 'eaw kui' (hungry ghost) that when the food came, we just whack. The mussels, prawns and crabs. So...no photos of the yummy seafoods. H did indulge with two glasses of pinot grigio. Me? I had more Chandon bubbly! After our very satisfying meal, we walked around. Took some photos (to the reluctance of H..., as usual)

The Rock....
(Did a tour 12-years ago already. So didn't do it again this time round. Wondered what happened to the photos I took then??? Can't seem to find them.)
The Seals at Pier 39
(Apparently, they only decided to call Pier 39 their home after the 1989 Earthquake)
'Scratch my back, please!'
(Very very smelly.....)
From Fisherman's Wharf, we proceeded back to Union Square....we had to find a car park that had a decent rate.... thankfully, the one near the rental car company had an offer of USD 15/- per night for entry after 5.30 pm and exit by 9.30 pm. The hotel's rate was USD 29/- per night.
Did we go back to the hotel?
Nope...jalan-jalan around the Union Square area summore, had more ALCOHOLIC drinks over at the Clock Bar in the Westin, and then bought a very sinful toffee pecan cheesecake from the CheeseCake Factory to savour in the room.
My Cocktail at the Clock Bar...
The Cheesecake was indeed very rich, creamy and delicious. What's more, they had given a very generous dollop of whipped cream on the side. Really 'a moment on your lips, a lifetime on your hips' situation. By then, it was kinda late but thought we should go out for a walk in Borders ....hoping that we can shed some of the calories that we have just consumed. :-)
Browsed around Borders for about half an hour, and as we came down the escalator....I saw a familiar face. He called out H's name...
Guessed who it was?
OYSTER!!!!
Fancy meeting here in San Fransisco....of all places. Talk about SMALL WORLD.
Nope. He doesn't work here...he works in Singapore...and was in Houston for work for the last two weeks. And just so happened decided to spend the weekend in San Fransisco .....
Who is Oyster?
My old university mate from Imperial in London. We used to go to Chinatown together for meals...as out of the whole Malaysian gang, only two of us had monthly travelcards. Anyways, we decided to sit somewhere to have drinks and catch-up. The Clock Bar was jam-packed at this hour....so we had to find an alternative venue. Ended up at the Marriott. Errr...since I already drank like a fish today, decided on a nice soothing cup of camomile tea.
It was nice chatting with an old pal......he updated on some of our ex-university mates... some still in London, in Singapore and Hong Kong etc. Actually, both of us were hoping to catch KC who has just moved to San Fransisco some months back...but he was out-of-town the weekend we were there.
I supposed we could have talked on and on...but the wait-staff came to inform us that the bar is closed....heheheheh...that was when we decided to say our goodbyes and head back to our respective hotels for a good night's rest.
Till next time...
