Online Historical Directories

This is the second part of an update I posted yesterday, after spending much of this month adding links to my site to farm and farmer's directories on the Internet Archive.  There are 59 new pages and 89 updated pages as a result!  Be on the look out for a blog post on how to find and use rural directories in your research, coming soon to this blog.

There are so many changes, I have made three posts.  Yesterday's post listed the new pages, this one has the Canadian pages update, and the next one will have the United States pages update.

It's been a year since I've posted updates. I have done a lot of work this past year, but realized that I had not notified my readers via this blog about them. Two most notable changes: the Eve N Don directory site not only changed its name to Don's List after his wife Eve passed away, it also changed its URL (web address). It took quite a bit of time for me to make the appropriate changes to this site. The second change was when the BYU Digital Books site changed to FamilySearch Books. I'm not done changing all those links. Meantime, you can check them out at FamilySearch Books and do a search for "directory." Additionally, the site Old Directory Search is now offline. I've started to remove some of the dead links, but again, have not gotten to all of them.

I'm taking another break from adding links from Ancestry and have been adding some from the New England Historic and Genealogical Society, some to St. Louis, Missouri directories at Google (thanks, John!) AND from the Akron-Summit County (Ohio) Public Library. The page for the latter is not quite ready; it takes some time to download each directory (and there are a lot!) to view the details (location[s] covered; compiler; verify the publishing year). Meanwhile, here are the latest I've added from the NEHGS site, which is a subscription website, as well as the St. Louis directories. Stay tuned for the Summit County, Ohio page to be added in the next week or so.
