Halloween 2010

I was going to make my kids costumes again but really didn't feel it. They both wanted to be something that seemed so time consuming so I talked them into being "The Incredibles" since it's the last year our family would be perfect for it.

We borrowed Alexis and Carter's costume. Alexis' wig is a witches wig...but turned to the side to make it a side part and I cut the hair shorter. I just made the logos out of felt for the red shirts Chad and I wore. Because, heaven help us, you would have fainted at the sight of us in spandex. My wig was a punk rockers wig that my sister cut into a bob minutes before we walked out the door. I think she did a mighty fine job. I just happened to have a red sleeper for Owen in the right size. Random. The kids got way into it and really enjoyed us dressing up as a family. I think they've watched the movie every day since that night. No joke.

We had the movie playing in our car while everyone came by trick or treating. That was Chad's great idea. However, Chad also won two other battles. He insisted we use black face paint for the mask. I wanted to use toll paints since they dry and don't smear. And he would NOT let me paint Owen's face! Next time I will win those battles. But I guess I can't complain too much...he did agree to dressing up and spraying his hair yellow...that is HUGE for him.

These pictures were taken Saturday night at our ward trunk or treat. Being Activities Chair I was in charge of it. Luckily, it was combined with two other wards so we all worked together. It ended up being pretty low stress since they do a trunk or treat every year. They have fun booths...2 from each ward and there were a ton of cars participating in it. Just as candy ran out some couples from our ward came out to the parking lot to the music of thriller and did the dance full out. It was hilarious and so hard to tell who was who! Then...an impromptu kids dance party ensued right there in the parking lot...and the kids loved it.
You better believe my kids were excited to have Chad's family visit us since I couldn't leave our party.

I have to say the kids were super cool about not Trick or Treating on Sunday. We had a dinner here with my sister's and brother's families. I made 24 bread bowls that looked like pumpkins. My sister's made some yummy soups and my brother brought over some sides. After we crushed all the kids candy from the trunk or treat we set up our very own Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory so we could dip our caramel apples in any topping we desired. Sorry, no pictures. I'd like to kick myself for that. But we were enjoying our food and time together!

Halloween

Yes, I love candy. Why do you ask?

The prettiest "Hershey Kiss" I've ever seen.
We re-used Alexis costume from her 4th of July parade. I honestly wrapped two pieces of fabric around a $2 pool floaty from Wal-mart and sewed it together. I used ribbon to cinch the top closed. It deflates flat to store.

As if he needed the title "Big Hunk"...he's always one in my eyes.
I post-poned making his costume thinking I would have my baby earlier. So I had to whip it together on Saturday afternoon. Good thing it was super easy.

Our SWEET little "Candy Corn." I just love the sweet smell of newborns. And I can help but LOVE every second with this little boy. Everything about him makes my heart melt.
After I finished Carter's costume I figured I might as well cut out a few pieces of felt and make a candy corn for Owen's shirt. He needed to join in on the candy fun. I tried taking pictures of him but I think he hated the over-sized felt piece. He tried eating it and then resorted to his fingers instead.

I was happy to not be in the hospital for Halloween. It's bad enough not being able to walk from house to house with them watching the excitement on their face. Owen and I had a relaxing evening...and the kids got me lots of "Snickers" as promised.

Having the kids be candy for Halloween turned out to be IRONIC. That's the same night Owen let me know of my need to give up chocolate completely or else we would be up all night every night because of his tummy aches. Oh well, maybe it will help me slim down a little quicker.

To welcome November...we carved some pumpkins Sunday afternoon. Better late than never. Between Alexis' soccer game and rehearsals for the stake play...we had no time on Saturday.
The kids loved drawing their own faces on these little pumpkins Grandma Pitt picked up for them.

Pumpkin Patch

Tonight for Family Home Evening we went to the Pumpkin Patch.

The kids have been counting down the days on the calendar.

The kids...
...rode on the flying elephants:

...rode the bumper boats:

...Carter loved driving the train:

...jumped in bounce houses:

...took some fun pictures:

...and ran and climbed over pumpkins.

No pony rides for the kids this year. That's all they could talk about up until they realized it would take over 1/2 their tickets. They were smart enough this year to plan out how they would use their tickets to get on the most rides.

During Conference this afternoon, I made some of these banners. I copied it from this girl.

Carving Pumpkin's & Scarecrow Cookies

We've lived here for 3 1/2 years now. And have been Home Taught...about twice. Sad, I know. I love when Home teachers come. It just sends such a great message to my kids. Why my rambling about Home Teacher's on a carving pumpkins post? We just got assigned new home teachers that moved into the ward recently. They came right away and with a message. I seriously can't express what that meant to me. When we got invited to a "Pumpkin Carving Contest" they threw I felt like they went above and beyond to get to know us. And when you really know your home teacher's your more likely to call them in the middle of the night if you need them.

There have been at least 10 new young couples that have moved into our ward over the last few months and I know none of them. I've really wanted to get to know them but just haven't had much opportunity. Remember, I'm in my own corner in primary. I was so excited to attend and get to know all these girls. The party was so much fun. And the pumpkins...well, see for yourself:

Pretty cool, huh?
Zooming in. How cool is the ET one. That was Tom & Kristy Haight's (the host's) pumpkin. Can you guess which one is ours? Here's a hint: Alexis picked it out.
I will gracefully give all the credit to my husband since he did all the carving. It turned out awesome despite my comments at her little head on a big dress when he shaved in her profile to far. Plus, he free handed her facial features because he had to improvise. Good job Chad. Just know that I would have still given you credit had you made her look really deformed. Carter liked sawing chunks of pumpkin off the lid. Alexis and Carter loved the swing and the attention from Emily. I made these fun cookies for the party. They are from Family Fun Magazine. Completely edible. Earlier in the week, I had plans to have my kids make these cookies for all the kids around their age in the apartment complex. But on whim, I had Alexis and Carter invite them all over to make their own. It was short but the kids liked it.
