Weekend Update...II

Part II

GUY FAWKES

also known as Bonfire Night

If you are not British, a little history:
in the 1600's Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up Parliament
by stashing gun powder underneath the main building.

He was unsuccessful and hung at the Tower of London as punishment

So naturally the British celebrate the foiling of his plan by
building bonfires and burning a fake Fawkes on top

Then they set off fireworks to symbolize the explosion that could have been...

Interesting, but sure I'll partake in the tradition

Not the bonfire I was hoping for, but it will do.

The best photo we could get int the packed crowd

Weekend Update

Part I

Yes, we had a very exciting weekend and I am breaking it up into parts...
It was great because we really didn't have much planned,
but it turned into a really fun weekend.

Saturday afternoon we visited

Hadrian’s Wall

Which Emperor Hadrian began
constructing in AD 122 and finished in 8 years.

The wall is broken down in many parts,
but the trail stretches for 84 miles from coast to coast.

(this is the bit of wall we saw)

We also happened upon this amazing sunset and
this cool mist that settled among the hills.

Pumpkin Party

I love fall

England does not love pumpkins as much as America does,

this is sad

so no cool green or white pumpkins for me this year -
and the next two years, but who's counting

We had some people over to carve pumpkins and I made lots of pumpkin goodies
and apple cider, which is also not a local favorite

1. My growing collection of tea cups 2. Hello Fall Arrangement 3. Carvers at work

I take this very seriously:

Making the faces of our pumpkins....it doesn't really work

Talking...

This is what our dog Weldan sounds like when she does not get a walk. Turn the volume up pretty loud so you can hear her!

Fall is Here!

The other weekend Cullen and I went to Athens, GA. On the way home we stopped at Jaemores, one of our favorite spots (I have mentioned it before). We went pumpkin picking at there enormous pumpkin farm and we unfortunately got there to late to buy tickets to the corn maze!

(is this not amazing!!! )

Cullen and I of course came home with three pumpkins and a gourd of course

Speaking of Pumpkins... we went over to someones house for dinner this weekend and I made a pumpkin pie, yum!

Did you know okra grew like this?
At the farmers market this weekend they were selling bunches of okra. I thought it looked super cool, so of course I bought some. I love it!

Alright, that's all the fall I have to share :)

DC

Cullen and I went to Washington DC the other weekend with some good friends Graham and Elizabeth. It was a great trip.
We saw great friends,
Went to a Braves vs Nationals game,

Ate delicious food.
We stumbled upon our brunch spot Saturday morning which was AWESOME! Founding Farmers. I highly recommend it, Cullen got the Bananas Foster pancakes and I got the farmers breakfast...great start to our day :)

Graham's Dad let us stay in his awesome condo, thank you!! It had a great rooftop that we used for cocktail hour.

THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is always an adventure with my family. We pack up everything we own for the 45 minute drive to our lake house for a 24 hour extravaganza. We seriously had four cars full of food and decor!

To prove it look at the Thanksgiving table my aunt put together!

Before we eat, it is becoming a tradition to skeet shoot...

Some good healthy competition!

Fall...You went by so fast!

I love fall....especially the foliage. I grew up in a house that always had fresh cut foliage, adding a pop of color to our house.

My cute husband knows this about me and one day I came home to find this in the hallway of our apartment.

This started my hunt for great foliage around Durham. We found some beautiful Ginkgo leaves that looked amazing when they were bright yellow (I forgot to take pictures...sad ). Check out the limbs though, they were great for my hot chocolate table!
