Squirrel hunting - Patuxent River State Park

Sometimes squirrel hunting can be more about staying awake than stalking.  Yesterday, I brought Debbie along with me to hunt squirrels at the Patuxent River State Park.  I carried my Ruger Mark III pistol and she used my Winchester '94; both are .22s.  We didn't see anything, perhaps because it was so chilly and windy but we enjoyed sitting out in the woods talking and joking.  We shot a few cans we found laying around and called it a day after only a couple of hours.  At one point, I was so comfortable, I nearly fell asleep.  This wouldn't be the first time this has happened.  I've fallen asleep in the woods quite a few times.  I think its because the forest is the most soothing and peaceful place I can imagine.  The constant rustle of leaves, warm sunshine and contemplation just put me right out.

Ruger Mark III

With Governor O'malley proposing some ridiculous gun laws (Like banning semi-automatics, limiting magazine capacities to 10 rounds and requiring a state permit for purchasing pistols AND rifles), I decided to start buying the guns I've wanted for so long.   Last week I picked up this Ruger Mark III.  Though I paid for it weeks beforehand, it took over three weeks for my application to be processed through the State Police.  I'm told that this process usually takes a week, however everybody and their brother is thinking like me, and buying their guns while they still can.

The pistol is a heavy barrel, auto-loading, .22 caliber target model.  I plan to enjoy a lot of target shooting at the range and squirrel hunting with this pistol.  It is as accurate and reliable as they come. I took it hunting this morning but unfortunately did not see any squirrels.  I am eager to get to the range with this one.
