Feeling like a fraud.

My blog name is Pointless Quilter but I haven't been quilting a lot lately.  I have been working on Orca Bay for a while now.  And while I have most of the inner quilt finished (well by the end of today I hope) I did have 1/2 of it done about two weeks ago. All those red triangle units with the black pieced corners kill me.  The border is full of them too and if I didn't already have the black pieced parts done for the border, I'd change it.  It's a super scrappy quilt and I did pull most of the fabrics from all of my scrap bins (strips and squares) so that is a plus.  I know I'll like it when it's finished.   I also finished this little runner.  My older sister last year chose this pattern for her new house for a Fall runner for her kitchen island.  And after I had finished the two end applique pieces (machine applique) she decided she wanted a circular or oval runner instead.  So this runner will go into our guilds boutique next ...

Six Pillows Completed

Last year I made some children's reading pillows for my sister-in-law's sister in law.  She consigned me this year to make some pillows (not reading pillows) for her 4 sisters and a sister-like friend.  She helped me pick the embroidery designs based on their likes.  Here are the finished pillows. Then I finished the Spring Fling Cross stitch and decided to make it into a pillow too.  Luckily I was able to make all these using my lovely stash of fabrics.   The cross stitch pattern is called Spring Fling by With Thy Needle and Thread.  I'm thinking of adding a bow or some buttons on the white strip.  I'll have to wait to go to the store though since I don't have the right shade of pink for a bow.   I also finished this little bag.   I started this piece when we were at Sisters a couple years ago.  I worked on it a couple times at Kathy's on Thursday nights.  I decided a couple weeks ago to use the Tiny Decision a...

Two Quilt Finishes

Can you believe it?  I haven't quilted a lot lately.  I haven't finished a lot lately.  I'll discuss why in a second.  My younger sister Beverly asked me to make a quilt for a friends' daughter graduation gift.  I gave her some pattern suggestions and she chose a free pattern (Supernova)   The colors she wanted were beach colors.  So I pulled solids from my scrap and asked what color background.  She didn't want white and we decided on a sand color.  Then I purchased more solids and the sand and she didn't like the sand so we decided on a yellowish cream (not pictured)  These are the beach colors she gave Beverly for me to use as inspiration. So this is the completed quilt.  However before she told me she didn't like the sand background I had already cut and marked them so I decided to make another quilt using the just the blues and green solids with the sand.  Figured I could sell at our guilds boutique....

Antique Quilt finish

Top hand pieced by Lula Gurtrude Habaugh Smith.  This was made from clothes that were from Ida Smith Andersen who is my sister's mother-in-law. My sisters mother-in-law had this quilt top in a bag in her sewing room and Beverly found it when they were helping her clean out her room when they moved to an assisted living facility.  My sister asked if I would be willing to quilt it for her and I jumped on the chance to work on it.  It's a pretty good sized quilt, about 74 x 100.   I rounded the borders off instead of cutting them off.  I hope her mother-in-law will like what I did. I also finished this Cross Stitch and framed it by using a purchased frame then used some bone fabric that I tea dyed since it was super white and clashed with the Aida fabric.  I will be giving this to my hubby for a Christmas gift. I finished the top of my Material Girl challenge top and have the back all ready to pin.  Just need the desire to clear my floor ...

I love my sisters

so much that when they ask me to make them something, I'm happy to do it for them.  I don't do it right of way of course, I'm usually in the middle of other projects.  But this month I decided to get these things done for them.  First my sister who lives in Texas needed a 100" white table runner.  Okay, all white?!?   I did make the back red so she can use it for Valentine, 4th of July and Christmas too. There is a pattern.  I didn't want to do just a solid white. Then my younger sister asked for some fall placemats.  After many back and forth pictures of ideas and fabrics, we decided on  a darker main fabric with this particular bunch of fabrics.  I really like them.  She asked for 8-10 but I ended up making 12.  I'm not quite done with all of them as I'm waiting for more fabric for the binding At the beginning of this month I took a guild class on how to use pencils to color fabrics.  I embroidered on my mac...

Texas Was Great

I took a long trip in early November to the great state of Texas.  The first part of my trip was to visit my sister who just moved to New Braunfels.  She took me all over that part of Texas.  We went to San Antonio, Austin, and all points in between.  I had great barbecue at the Salt Lick. Also went to a Cracker Barrel (not that impressed this time) and she took me to a Buc-ee's gas station.  WOW! We took a tour of the Alamo.  No pictures taken but learned a lot about Texas history there. San Jose Mission This is called the Rose Window at the mission. Brenda and I in one of the cells or rooms. We went to Austin to have dinner with my nephew but before we saw him we took a tour of the State Capital Building.  I highly recommend this tour.  Learned a whole lot more about Texas and the people from Texas. She took me around New Braunfels.  We went to some outdoor market I think in a town called Wimberly.  We had...
