My Day at the Office Yesterday was only a Slightly Worse Than This

The Big Big Boss publicly excoriated me at the senior meeting. After it ended I glanced around the room and all eyes were averted. I felt like this:

Back to Work on Monday

I've been out since 12/2/07. I feel a little anticipatory anxiety, but I spoke to my DOM (state speak for District Office Manager) and ADOM (Assistant-and direct supervisor) and they seem giddy with relief. I guess I should take this as a good sign.

Saturday is my 9th anniversary with NY State, a good thing as I'm totally out of all sick time, vacation time and various times and on one's anniversary, one gets 5 personal days-yay. So I'm not broke, time wise.

I just had my T-Tube pulled out yesterday. I was my last piece of hardware and when it was removed, I flew around the room, backward-not really. Actually, there was not paid. Apparently, the small incision will take a few weeks to heal, so if anyone at work is mean to me, I can just flash it!

So, wish me luck

Back to work

I'm returning to work today after a full week home sick with hep A. I'm still easily fatigued. I've done some short forays into the community, on Sunday a walk into the village where I ran into a colleague from another office, Saturday a visit to some bookstores, yesterday a visit with my shrink. All trips started with public transportation, but ended with a cab ride home. Yesterday took me into the Wall St. area and I thought I'd visit a bookstore I like down there, but when I was finished with my apt. I was too tired even to stop for lunch.
Well, today I have a seminar in the morning in Manhattan, then off to work in the pm in Brooklyn where I work. I wonder how I'll do? I don't like this feeling of wearing down and the need to lay down. And the cab fares, oy!
And there's the pile of stuff on my desk...

Side note: As I was looking for an illustration for a cartoon of a woman at a desk on google images, the cartoons that came up all seemed to be men. When I narrowed my search to women, the women all seemed to be secretaries, clerks and with many more black women than had been in the general search. Hmm, google pictures as a microcosm of life.

Holiday is but a Memory

I got back to the office yesterday and my counselors were lined up outside of my door. Well, not all day, but at some times. And I had two disgruntled phone calls that will require meetings and one confused walk in. I'm going to print some of my pictures to add to the gallery on my office walls to remind me that there are other places. I love my job, it makes me think and I can help people. I do work for the government so there is lots of policy and procedure and I am a bureaucrat (as I was called yesterday-Ouch)-can't be helped but I try to be a gentle one. Is that an oxymoron.
I'll just have to remember sunset at Herring Cove and the biggest Hollyhocks I ever did see.
