Lolo & Lola

Steve's parents came to my rescue today and watched the girls this afternoon so that I could get the back door of the Tahoe fixed. Lolo and Lola (Filipino name for grandma and grandpa) are always such a huge help to us and have a strong bond with the girls. They live 1.5 hours away from us, but were willing to make the drive to be at our house by 12:30 so that I could take the car in to get it fixed.

I couldn't ask for better in-laws. They typically come to our house one night each week and sleep over and then watch the girls the next day while I am at work. They ALWAYS bring dinner and lots of extra necessities that are just thoughtful (diapers, paper towels, toilet paper). Lolo and Lola have more energy than many people half their age and have quite the busy social calendar. My mother-in-law STILL works full time as a postpartum nurse, and spends one of her days off each week with us.

And lucky for us, we get to enjoy lots of good Filipino cooking....adobo, lumpia and pancit (noodles) are some of the girls favorite foods.

Thank you Lolo and Lola for all that you do for our family!
WE LOVE YOU!!

Dear Chevrolet bigwigs,

I am writing you this letter to inform you of a major flaw in your 2005 Tahoe model. Up to this point, my family has been happily accessing the back of our vehicle with the remote keyless entry feature that came with the car. Looks like this is the ONLY way to get into the back of the car and we learned this the hard way. And inconveniently, I might add.

This past Saturday, my husband and I packed up our 2 year old triplets and headed to the mall to have lunch and take advantage of the indoor play structure that would surely tire them out so they would come home and pass out for at least a 2 hour nap. We had such a great time while we were there, that my husband and I decided to push the limits and take our well-behaved children to the *GAP. Heck, they were having a great sale and we could use some new summer clothes. Sure, it was getting close to their naptime, but we would be in and out quickly. Their stomachs were filled with *McDonald’s fries and chicken nuggets and they were happily scarfing down fruit snacks while we browsed the clothing racks.

So 180 dollars and an hour later, we were hightailing it out of the mall as quickly as possible while trying to keep our now screaming children quiet by shoving *Mrs. Field’s cookie nibblers into their mouths. We quickly got to our car and I began to unload our children from their strollers. Hubby notices a HUGE problem. The back liftgate won’t open. To put it nicely, we asked ourselves WTF?? We pushed the unlock button and yanked on the handle at least 20 times. I managed to hoist myself over the carseats that fill the 2nd row seating and realized there is no handle or way to open the liftgate from the inside. Again, we find ourselves asking WTF?? My husband quickly problem solves and tells me that I will have to sit in the 3rd row seat so that he can sit our double stroller in the passenger seat for the ride home. The rest of our shopping bags, diaper bag, lunch bag, single stroller and various kid items are thrown to me over the 2nd row seat so that my husband can get our screaming children into the car.

THANKFULLY, we did not have our triple stroller with us on this trip or else there would have been NO way to get it into the car. It is simply TOO big to throw over the 2nd row seat and it would not have fit nicely as a passenger in the front row next to hubby.

So now I have to put my weekly *Costco trip on hold until we take the car in to get the liftgate fixed. Totally inconvenient. And since this is the only car that we use to travel anywhere with our 2 year old triplets, I will just have to make sure that we don’t go anywhere that requires a stroller. Hmmm, that should leave us at home until we get this fixed.

Sincerely,
Not so satisfied Tahoe owner

Photostory Friday and Almost Naked Neighbors

One of our summertime afternoon activities is stripping the girls down and running through the sprinklers with the boys next door. Luckily, the boys belong to my best friend Jessica so we get to spend lots of afternoons together. After the sprinklers get old, the kids usually start looking for frogs inside the utility boxes in our front yards.

We just hope the rest of the neighbors on the street don't mind the nearly naked kids running around the front yard!

Girls Trip 2008

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to take a mini-vacation with my best girlfriends. It was a long overdue trip and as always, we enjoyed every minute of each other's company.

Jessica is the free-spirited girl in our group. She's always up for an adventure, loves to try new things and start new traditions that we can build memories on. She has always been the yin to my yang. When she's running out the door without her wallet, keys and cell phone, I am right behind her making sure she has what she needs to get where she needs to go.

Ly is the ultimate care-taker and mother hen. She always makes sure everyone is fed and happy and thinks about the little things that will make the day go just a little smoother. She's fiercely protective of her friends and will go out of her way to help a friend who needs her.

We visited beautiful Lake Tahoe and tried to squeeze in as much fun as possible in our short 2 night stay. We went to see Sex and the City (which we loved), enjoyed mimosas in the middle of the day, and ate as much as we wanted.

Every great trip deserves a great theme song. So when we unexpectedly found ourselves at Cabo Wabo Cantina on Sunday night dancing the night away, the perfect song for our weekend trip blasted through the speakers and will always remind me of this trip!

I love you girls!

Potty training by numbers

2...the number of poops for the entire day that just so happened to occur somewhere other than the potty

3...the number of juice boxes that were pounded by 9:00 a.m.

14...the number of dirty big girl undies we had at the end of the day

24....the total number of successful pee-pees on the potty for the day

30....the number of big girl undies we bought at Target yesterday

100....the number of times I was tempted to put diapers back on the behinds of my potty trainees

250....the number of calories that are waiting for me in the form of mint chip ice cream to help me unwind from the day

400....the approximate number of dolla bills I will have to pay to get our carpet and couch cleaned by the time we are through with this adventure.

800....the number of milligrams of Motrin I just took for my aching back and feet

1 too many....the number of times I believed my toddler when she said she didn't have to go potty

countless....the number of whoops and hollers, hugs and kisses, and happy dances that I did everytime we had a successful visit to the potty.

Now color in all those numbers and you have 1 tired mama!

Home

I'm back home after a fabulous weekend with my two best friends. I'll post more about my trip tomorrow (hopefully) and let you know how "Operation big girl undies" is going as we embark on our first day out of diapers. YIKES!

Summer-summer-summertime!

Woot-woot! My vacation has officially started. And if you stick your head outside on Saturday afternoon and listen really closely, you just might hear the rubber from my tires peeling out of our driveway as I head out of town for a weekend with my girlfriends. I don't think I could be more excited to have a weekend getaway.

I'll leave you with the perfect summertime song that brings me back to my high school days.

Photostory Friday....Lloyd's daughter?

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

I am bumping up an older post of mine this week, because I think it is perfect for photo story friday. I am too tired to think up some new material tonight! I originally posted this on 9/6/07 after Miss Makena got into a fight with our tile floor in the kitchen and lost. This picture was taken when she had only one of her front teeth chipped. She took another fall around Christmas time and chipped the other side, so she now has two little half moon shaped front teeth.

Are there any Dumb and Dumber fans out there?
I think Makena is the spittin' image of Lloyd with her new smile.

What's on the horizon

Potty training and preschool!

I am getting all geared up to start full blown potty training next week. The girls are very used to peeing on the potty, but are still in diapers, so it is time to get out of my comfort zone and see how they do on a regular potty schedule with big girl undies. I'm hoping this process isn't too painful since they have been going successfully on the potty a couple of times a day for at least 2 months. The girls have even started to tell me when they need to go. I'm all ready to go with my potty charts and watched this news clip about the "Potty Whisperer" just to get myself all psyched up.

Now pooping in the potty is a whole other can of worms. We've had two poops on the potty and one was by accident. They have shown little interest in pooping on the potty, but I'm hoping I can get them there in the next seven weeks.

Because that's when preschool starts! And the girls need to be potty trained to go to preschool. Nothing like a little pressure to get this procrastinating mama in gear. I've been looking into a 2-day a week preschool program that I think will be really good for the girls. A little learning and stimulation outside of our boring old house will be a great experience for them. I hope. And I need to sell an arm and a leg to pay for it.

(From left to right)

Lissy is all smiles thinking that potty training will be SO much fun.

Riley thinks it's hilarious that I expect her to poop in the potty.

Makena is just plain in shock.

Dear Daddy

We wanted to dedicate a special post to you daddy in honor of Father's Day.
We've learned alot over the last year.

We can now sit and eat lunch like big girls on our weekly outing to "Skosco."

We've learned that these golf club thingies you like so much make a nice accessory to our fancy pink shoes.

But you should probably start putting some extra money away in that shoe and purse fund now. You know a girl can never have too many purses or shoes.

And Makena learned how to get every last crumb out of the cracker box.

Riley learned how to shimmy underneath the baby gate 'cause she isn't a baby anymore.

We've learned that dirt doesn't taste so good

But cupcakes aren't so bad

We've learned how to help you clean up the yard

But we already knew how to make a big mess in the house

We're so thankful you are our daddy

So we hope you enjoy this cookie we made especially for you

We licked it decorated it ourselves

So here's to another year daddy.

WE LOVE YOU!

Photo Story Friday

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

This picture is very special to me because it is our first family picture taken on October 31, 2005. The girls were 10 weeks old and the nurses dressed them up in their tiny Halloween onesies so we could take a picture together. Makena (closest to me) weighed 3 pounds 14 ounces, Riley (in the middle) weighed 3 pounds 10 ounces and Alyssa (in stripes) was a whopping 4 pounds 14 ounces. The girls were becoming more stable at this stage in their NICU stay and were about a week away from being co-bedded.

Looking back at pictures always makes the memories flood back, but it also seems as if it was a lifetime ago. Our girls have come so far.

Who's a clown?

I am, if you vote for me! I am one of the nominees for "The Class Clown" award over at An Island Life who is hosting The Bloggy Hoss Elections. I wonder if it was all that blogging about snot, barf and poop that solidified my nomination?

Can I vote for myself? Cause I'm tempted. Go vote for me here, so I don't have to cheat and get thrown out of the election. All you need to do is fill out the comment form with your name and in the comments section nominate ME for the Class Clown award.

And while you are there, vote for Angie at Seven Clown Circus. She is a total overachiever and was nominated in 3 categories.........

Toddler nazis

Remember when I told you that Riley had some killer dance moves that resembled Elaine from Sienfeld?

Well the girls have found a new way to irritate each other that reminds me of another famous Seinfeld episode. All three of them take part in playing nazi or victim at some point in the day.

A conversation goes something like this:

Riley: "Mommy, I want milk."
Alyssa or Makena: "NO MILK FOR YOU!"
Riley: Wahhhh (crying), "Sissy said no milk."

OR

Makena: "Mommy, I go night-night."
Riley or Alyssa: "NO NIGHT-NIGHT FOR YOU!"
Makena: Wahhhh (crying), "Sissy said no night-night."

OR

Alyssa: "Hold you mommy."
Makena or Riley: "NO MOMMY FOR YOU!"
Alyssa: Wahhh (crying), "Sissy said no mommy."

Everytime it happens, I try not to laugh but it's hard not to because the unsuspecting toddler's reaction is always the same no matter who it is. So for all you Seinfeld fans, I leave you with a soup nazi clip (with a little Schmoopie talk thrown in).

Photo Story Friday

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

My picture for Photo Story Friday is one I took of Riley when she was 13 months old. I couldn't resist dressing her up in one of her infant hats that still happened to fit her head, although it was a tad on the snug side. This picture always made me laugh because I think it looks like she could be hanging with either a) her homies or b) Papa Smurf.

The stars aligned

Somehow, I was able to capture ALL of my girls smiling and looking at me in a picture. And they look so grown up. Sniff-sniff. Don't you love how they figured out a way to ride the horse at the same time? Well, it was only for a couple of minutes and then Lissy started yelling at Makena to get off the front because she was too heavy! And then she started shoving her to drive her point home.

Let's hope they never find themselves on a sinking ship with room for only two in the lifeboat. The hair pulling and scratching that would take place in the fight for occupancy would probably puncture the boat and they'd all be screwed. "That's mines" would be echoing through the air.
