Bedroom Refresh with Crane & Canopy

There's nothing like spring to get you in the mood for a refresh around the house, right?
Well, my client happened to find a fabric she fell in love with and wanted to use it as
inspiration for a bedroom refresh. Do you remember the Craigslist Bedroom I did a couple
years ago for the One Room Challenge? That's the one!
We intentionally kept the base pieces in the room neutral so it would be simple to change
up down the road. This time she wanted to incorporate some of her blue and white pottery
collection, and tie it in with the pretty chinoiserie patterned fabric she loved,
which we put on a custom lumbar pillow.
I was so excited when Crane & Canopy reached out to me to try their bedding, I knew
the exact pattern that would pull our room together perfectly!

We love it!
We chose the Crane & Canopy Page Blue reversible duvet cover and shams, both reverse
from white on one side to the navy print on the other. Super easy to change up...next time!
Both feature hidden zipper enclosures and white piping for a tailored finish. Interior ribbons
on the corners keep your duvet in place. And, they're machine washable!

Sometimes I'm hesitant ordering online because I really like to feel everything, haha!
We were pleasantly surprised, the bedding has a beautifully, silky luxurious feel.
They use the highest quality extra long-staple cotton with weaves ranging in the
300-400 thread count, and it feels fabulous.
I did not know...
that 1000 thread count sheets are actually not good!
To get 1000 thread you need to use really thin threading, and the sweet spot for duvet
covers and sheets is 400, so that explains it.

We added a vibrant green trim to give the shams a custom look and set off the
pretty green in the lumbar fabric.
Accessories for our refresh came from my go-to, Homegoods. We found the pair of tall
brass and white lamps, shell artwork, blue and white pottery, and blue ikat throw
 pillows there.

If you missed the original before and after design of this bedroom for the
One Room Challenge you might be surprised to know it was done on a budget with
Craigslist finds (nightstands, x-benches, ceiling chandelier) IKEA (drapes) and my
favorite upholstered headboard from Walmart. All sources can be found here.
Crane & Canopy is able to offer reasonably priced luxurious bedding because they
go direct to the best bedding factories, cutting out the middle man and passing the
 savings on to their customers!

One of my blogging besties, Lisa @ Shine Your Light, is also sharing a bedroom
refresh today. I know we're in for a treat, here's a peek of her teen room for you:

Thank you so much to Crane & Canopy for the invitation to try their beautiful
quality bedding, it couldn't be more perfect, and we couldn't be happier with it!

Project Update ~ A Productive Weekend!

Good Monday morning!
Do you guys remember when I found this cabinet on Craigslist, and
Well...I'm not quite finished, but I made a big dent over the weekend, I was on a
roll with the gold Rub 'n Buff!

I haven't mentioned this client project yet, but we've revamped her entry,
powder room, dining room and family room. We purchased this new bench
for seating at her dining room table, and I recovered it for her with this fun polka
dot fabric. I was so excited to change out the original brown leather I totally
forgot to take a before pic, but you can see the retailer's photo below.
And, I tried it out in my living room before loading it up! :)

Have the best week, friends!

One Room Challenge - Eclectic Great Room Reveal

Whew, we've crossed the finish line!
Thanks so much for stopping by to check on the One Room Challenge reveal of my
client's great room! And, a huge thank you to Linda @ Calling It Home for creating this
event that brings our community together to share an abundance of inspiration!

I'm sharing my client's great room. Their request was a cozy, comfortable space
for their family of four, and Stella the fur baby, to lounge, watch tv, read and hang
out together. The chic mom didn't want to forgo style for comfort and asked me to
incorporate glam, gold, pops of color and zebra print.
They were up for using my favorite, Craigslist finds! :)

This leather chair was one of our first Craigslist scores. I knew it would make a great spot for
reading tucked back in this corner and loved the warmth against our crisp white background.
This photo shows the best representation of the lively color of our Zahra Caravan rug from
 World Market.

We used two cushy sofas and several squishy down pillows, perfect for everyone
in the family to comfortably stretch out!

They owned this vintage marble top table and loved the size and sturdiness for propping
feet up. My client covered the golden tone wood with a coat of  Rub 'n Buff in Gold Leaf.

We reupholstered a special chair that had been in the family for years in Ralph
Lauren zebra print, for a dramatic, yet timeless statement piece.

We knew we wanted an antique piece in this space and originally planned to use a secretary
they owned, but fell in love with the details of this one from Craigslist when we were there
to pick up a console. Pairing it with a modern lucite chair gave us the eclectic style we
were going for.

They owned this large round side table, it was an ideal size between the sofas, but it also
had a marble top. We turned the top over, painted it all a high gloss white, and trimmed
the edge in gold Rub 'n Buff for a pretty detail (more info to come).

The ornate gold mirror was another Craigslist find, and the perfect dose of glam we
were hoping for to pair with our streamlined sconces.

We layered a special piece of artwork created by a family member. A a simple
frame and large mat keeps it from competing with the mirror.

Yet another Craigslist score was this console we used behind the sofa, it faces the
kitchen. When I spied it on Craigslist I thought the diagonal pattern (which was originally
wood) would be pretty if made to look like metal. My client went to town with
Rub 'n Buff, and we love the interest it added.

The oversized distressed media cabinet balances the the 75" TV and including the
industrial style compliments the eclectic mix of furniture pieces.

It's been a joy to help create this space for such a sweet family, and so fulfilling to see
them using it exactly as they envisioned. This photo of Stella sums it up perfectly! :)

Thank you so much to my wonderful clients for allowing me to share their home with
all of you and for enduring the six week challenge! We've been hard at work on the
rest of their home and I'll be filling you in on more details next week.

One Room Challenge - Week 5 - Industrial Media Cabinet

Eeeek! We're almost there friends, and I'm feeling pretty good about our One
Room Challenge progress. Don't get me wrong we've still got some major pieces to
finish up that will be down to wire, including our draperies. Now I'm on to obsessing
over the weather, and checking my phone app hoping the little rain clouds turn to
 sunshines for our photos.

If you'd like to catch up:

The Mister got in on the plan!
My client called last week and said he'd like a 75" TV and wondered if I thought it
would be too big. :)  Haha! Since TVs are measured diagonally it's only 66" wide.

We were on the hunt for a BIG media cabinet and found this vintage industrial
style with antique white finish. It's been a big lovefest - they love the TV and
we love the cabinet.

Remember the before of our chair - it's a tad better with a zebra print and custom pillow.
There's a sneak peek of the Craigslist secretary we scored last week too.

I worked on framing art, a gallery wall, and we're still deciding on some accessories.

I know I'm not the only ORC participant that breathes a huge sigh of relief
at the sign of the Fed Ex truck. Yesterday our rug arrived - do you spy the driver
 hauling it across the street?!!

I can't wait to share the room with all of you next Thursday,
I want a do over at my house!

One Room Challenge - Week 2 - Fabrics & Craigslist

Hi friends, welcome to ORC Week 2, dang these weeks fly by!
Thanks so much for your excitement and encouragement for our Great Room project
last week! I'm so excited to share our fabric choices today and give you a better feel
for our eclectic mix! I was thrilled that my client was on board for a not-so-typical
 color combination.
As I mentioned in Week 1, we'll be using two gray sofas, we chose pretty, bright
pops of fuchsia, and bold pattern with high contrast to give the room some pizazz.

Here's a peek at our fabric choices for the first floor of their home,
I thought you'd like to see all of them. :)
The Great Room choices are the three at Top Center and two at Top Right.

My favorite paint color, that I've used in three other One Room Challenge rooms,
Benjamin Moore - Simply White is the choice once again.
It's always just so perfect, I can't quit it!
We chose a marble basket weave tile for the fireplace surround, and were so excited to
see progress, only to notice the floor tiles they installed weren't correct, they should be
honed black marble.

Our first Craigslist score was this ornate gold mirror for above the fireplace! Woo hoo!

These 34" Savoy House sconces will flank the mirror.

Remember our inspiration pic, our mirror and sconces are both larger in scale.

This week we're finalizing our decision for the gray sofas, doing two simple DIYs,
and scouring Craigslist for a sofa table.

Are you following along with all the other ORC participants' projects, such a crazy
amount of inspiration from lots of favorite bloggers and former ORC designers!
You can check it out at Linda's @ Calling It Home.

One Room Challenge - Week 1 - The Great Room

Thanks so much for stopping by to follow along with another One Room Challenge!
And, a huge thank you to Linda @ Calling It Home for organizing this fabulous event
 for our blogging community!
Nothing like deciding to jump on board last minute, I had planned to sit out this round
and cheer on my pals from the sidelines.
In keeping with my personality I changed my mind!
I've been working with a client on the design for their newly built home and hadn't considered
participating until another client (last ORC Bedroom Reveal) mentioned it. I'd always
associated the ORC with more of a makeover and a boatload of DIY projects
 (see my previous ORCs below!).
Well, we're starting with a beautiful clean slate that doesn't require any of that, and
although I know many do it, I feel kind of guilty (I'm sure I'll get over it!).
I promise I'll have some sort of DIYs so I don't feel like a slacker!

Ebanista

I'll be sharing my client's Great Room, we're creating a cozy, comfortable space for
their family of four and golden doodle to lounge, watch tv, read, and hang out together.
Their stylish mom loves glam, pops of color and zebra.
We'll be refreshing some furniture they own, purchasing a few beautiful statement
pieces, and of course, using unique Craigslist finds. :)  Fingers crossed!

  The Plan:

collected, timeless, mix of styles
white walls
white drapes
neutral with pops of color
ornate gold mirror over mantle
statement sconces
pair of gray sofas
zebra
leather
rustic media console

   Inspiration Rooms:

The Design Co.
 Designers - Lucas Studios

Before:

Unfortunately, I didn't plan on the ORC and didn't take photos of blank white walls, so this
is it for now. Envision big blank wall to left, and windows to right....sorry, I'll have some soon!

I did take a photo of their stunning staircase. :)

We'll be using this secretary, previously in their son's bedroom.

This antique marble coffee table will work its way into the plan.

As will this fun chair.

That's it for this week friends,
next week I'll be sharing our fabric plan and our first Craigslist find!

You can follow on Instagram for the latest up to date progress.

Budget Guest Room Reveal ~ Inspired by Williams Sonoma

You guys know I LOVE designing anything, but to get to work on a project with one
of your dearest friends (who happens to be a great designer) is icing on the cake!
I first mentioned this Guest Room project in this post back in May, she was stuck and
asked me to help her pull it together, on a budget, of course! It's actually been finished
for quite awhile and I finally had a chance to take photos today.
We're so happy with the look we were able to achieve using DIYs, Craigslist, :)
IKEA, Homegoods, Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Target.

 WILLIAMS SONOMA INSPIRATION ROOM

BEFORE

AFTER

We decided to bring in a little dose of glam to keep it from looking too masculine.
The crystal chandelier was the perfect addition and making it even more perfect, it was
free from a family member that moved to a new home, and lucky us, it wasn't their style.
We chose my all-time favorite Walmart Upholstered Headboard that I used in
Great quality for the $129 price tag!

We're using a pair of antique tables I scored on Craigslist for $50 each,
as nightstands. They have beautiful burled wood, leather tops and cute little casters.
The open style is great for the small room.

A modern marbled vase, and ornate mirrored tray in contrasting styles were fun
finds at Homegoods, my go-to place for accessories. A pretty monogram carafe
is a nice touch for guests vs a plastic water bottle. :)

We had a DIY day and knocked out several projects:
The IKEA Hack Sconces, we totally copied from one of my genius blogging
besties, Lisa @ Shine Your Light. We followed her awesome tutorial and loved the
budget friendly price of about $20 each!
The Gallery Wall using 24 - (5" x 7") $5 IKEA frames, just swish a little
scribble of paint on white computer paper, and you've got it.
We trimmed IKEA Ritva drapes in jute trim from Hobby Lobby for great texture and
custom detail.

And, made a simple tailored no sew bedskirt, again from my same talented friend above!

This vintage tufted cane chair was another Craigslist score, and the oversized
IKEA canvas (78" x 55') we stole from her Master bedroom.

She's had this rustic trunk for years, we added the large full length mirror and convenient
hooks for guests. All of her woodwork and interior doors are painted black, if you missed
the post where I shared her home tour a couple years ago you can see it here,

We thought we deserved a splurge given our savvy shopping and DIYing, and had the
two camel colored pillows custom made, they were worth every penny. The shaggy
textured pillow is Target and white bedding is from Homegoods.

Thanks so much for reading friends, hope you all enjoyed the reveal!
