Great news

We had Jones' appointment with the Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon on Wednesday for his consultation about his feet/legs. And we received wonderful news...NO BRACES! We were so very, very relieved about this. It would have been fine, of course, if he did have to wear braces on his legs, but the thought still made me a little sad.

His hips and spine are prefect. The reason his feet are turning the way they do is because this particular muscle (I can't remember the name. Not that I would be able to spell it if I did...) is a little bit underdeveloped. So he gave us some simple exercises to strengthen them. That's it! We will go back at a year to see if there is any development.

What a relief.

So in the meantime, little man and I have mini workout sessions throughout the day.

Here is sweet man reading his book waiting on the doctor:

After the appointment, we headed to the park for some fresh air. Precious boy.
Apparently contemplating the book he read earlier...

nine month stats

Jones' original 9 month well baby check up was last week but we had to postpone it until this week. Little man ran a fever on and off from Saturday to Saturday so I ended up taking him last Monday to make sure it wasn't anything more than a cold. It wasn't. Just a cold. Leave it to me, first time mom, to demand an RSV test after the flu test came back negative. In my defense, a lot of kids and babies have RSV right now. I needed to make sure. Since he had fever at the doctor's office on Monday and his well baby check up was scheduled for that Tuesday, she asked that we re-schedule for this week.

So here are his 9 month stats taken on Feb. 1:
Weight: 21 lbs. 12 oz - 75%
Height: 28 inches - 60%

As his doctor put it "We are back on the charts!!!". There for a little while (ahem...when he was 25 lbs. at 7 months...) he was off the charts. The Dr. just put 95% due to lack of options. Sweet chunk of love.

Trey and I laugh - he weighed 18 lbs 4 oz at 4 months. He has leveled out, I suppose!

He is perfectly healthy. Again, praise God! Everyday I am becoming more and more grateful and aware of how blessed we are.
The only minor thing she was concerned about were his feet. She is referring us to a Pediatric Orthopedic in New Orleans due to his feet turning completely out. We knew this was going to be an issue, she just wanted to wait until 9 months to see if would correct itself. I was really upset about this at first - the thought of Jones in a brace for a little while - but at the end of the day, that is his only issue. And it is so minor. Praise God that we have a healthy baby.

Here he is in all his chunky and wild hair glory waiting on the doctor to come in.
(sorry for the bad quality. It was taken on my phone.)

9 months, my man. We can't believe you have gotten so big so fast. I am not ready to let go of my baby, but am loving watching you grow each and everyday. You are the love of our life!

1/2 a year

6 months. Wow. Somehow 6 months used to take longer than this.

At any rate, Jones is 6 months now. We had his 6 month check up today. Lots of shots. But he did great. Big boy.

No, literally. Big Boy:

Weight: 20 lbs - 90%
Length: 27 1/2 - 90%
Head: 17 3/4 - 90%

We are nothing if not consistent.

He is perfect. And completely healthy. Praise God.
And good news - no more ear infections! Also, we get to come down on the dosage for his acid reflux.
All in all a fabulous report. I love my chunky man.
As always, naked and clothed monthly pictures. This task is harder than ever.

All over the place.

Seriously? HILARIOUS.

So serious...

Until Grandaddy came and started a pillow fight!

I wish you could hear this laugh!

6 month Jones:

* Has crazy hair that strangers want to rub. I can't say that I blame them.
* Loves to cuddle and give kisses, although his kisses can often turn into violent bites.
* Started eating food. My mom and I made butternut squash and peas this weekend. He had peas for the first time tonight. More on that to come.
* Can army crawl and pretty much get to whatever he wants. Including Sophie. She doesn't always appreciate this.
* Can briefly sit up, but after a few seconds gravity takes over and he falls. I mean, have you seen the stomach? That is bound to happen.
* Loves to be outside. At all times. And thankfully loves to stroll. We have started jogging in the jogging stroller which he seems to really love. It must be because I am so fast. hmmmm... on the next one.
* Has the greatest laugh in the world.
* Sleeping great, but still eats once a night. But at 12 hours of sleep a night, I am manage. He sleeps from about 7:30 - 7:30.
* Loves making new sounds with his mouth, which cracks me up everytime.

He is my little chunky love!

baby got back

Jones had his 4 month check-up today.

They confirmed what I already knew...I am raising a linebacker.

At four months:
Height: 26 inches - 95%
Weight: a whopping 18 lb. 3 oz. - 95%
Head: 17 inches - 75%
After the nurse laughed while weighing our chunky monkey, the doctor came in to announce she was "alarmed" by his weight but then saw the height and told me to just be thankful he is proportional. Well, good. He is just huge all over, not fat. Love it.

She told me that exclusively breastfed babies are generally larger than formula fed babies and that obviously I am doing a good job at producing the milk. I would say so.

I love my little Buddha belly babe.

We plan on holding off on rice cereal until 6 months. The doctor recommended that since he is still doing so well on being exclusively breastfed. She did have to remove one more thing from my diet because of an allergic reaction Jones is having from something causing his eye to swell a little. So now no soy, caffeine, dairy, or spicy foods. But it's worth it.

At four months, Jones:

* Can hold his head completely up and follow you around the room. He practically is sitting up with little support.
* Is super strong. He will pull my hair out if I let him and can have a death grip on your finger.
* My dad and Trey both think he may be left-handed. We will work on that pitching arm soon.
* Loves to kick in the bath.
* Loves his exer-causer
* Loves to read. He holds the book.
* Laughs out loud so hard he has to catch his breath.
* Still loves the guitar. I pray he has his daddy's musical talent and not mine.
* Loves to be outside. It can be 110 degrees and if he is fussy the minute we walk outside he stops and starts smiling. Daddy's boy.
* His hair is falling out in a hilarious pattern.
* Sleeps 12 hours at night. CAN I GET AN AMEN?! He sleeps from about 8:30-8:30, eating at around 3. He usually wakes up around 6 or so, but I think it's because he hears Trey leaving for work. I can usually let him talk himself back to sleep, but sometimes he wants to rock. But he always goes back to sleep for a couple more hours.
* Is so ticklish when trey kisses his belly with a scruffy face. It's the cutest thing.
* Finally will take a bottle, but is quite the snob about it. The milk must be freshly pumped, he refuses previously frozen milk, and will only take it from a Dr. Brown bottle.
* And our newest thing: teething. Yes, at 4 months. I swear he is going to look like a one year old by the time he is 6 months.
* Is perfectly healthy and we are falling more and more in love everyday!

2 months

"You are taking me WHERE?"
"I demand to speak to someone about these shots you speak of."Jones had his two month check up/vaccination apt. today. I was drrrreeeeeeaddddding the shots. Luckily his daddy was there to hold him during the main event. I wanted to be the one to cuddle him afterwards, not holding him during the pain.
Thanks, Trey, for taking one for the team.
Here are his 2 month stats:
WEIGHT: 12 lb. 9. oz.
50th percentile
HEIGHT: 23 1/3 inches
50th percentile

HEAD (this is boring to me, but for records sake): 15 1/2 in
25-50th percentile
Just perfect! He has almost doubled in weight since we brought home that sweet 6 lb. 6 oz. baby. I am feeding him something good, I suppose.
The doctor was fabulous. We plan on sticking with her. Jones loved her as well. He batted his long eyelashes slowly at her while showing his dimple. Little flirt. She wanted to take him home, I am sure.
She increased the prescription for his acid reflux problems, so hopefully that will help even more. I was relieved to find out that the coughing is from the acid reflux and he is not getting sick. His pain during and after meals has gone down tremendously, but she said the constant, often projectile, vomiting will more than likely get worse before it gets better. As long as he is not hurting.
In the meantime, my house smells like spit up.
But he is cute.
He did surprisingly well during the shots (3!!). He cried during, but as soon as we picked him up, he was fine. He fell immediately to sleep on the way home.
Here are his 2 month pictures.
Again, the naked picture. I need to remember that sweet belly. I should try to get a better picture of him clothed. The one I am showing is the best I could get - and it's not so grand.
"Stop it. I am over it."

"Umm. A little help? I am falling and you keep taking pictures?"

"these people are nuts."

Happy 2 month birthday, my man! We love you more than we could have ever imagined and more than we will ever be able to describe.

April 29, 2010

Jones had his weight check up today. He was told last week to gain 4 ounces. And like the good competitor that he is, he took this challenge seriously.

He gained 13 ounces. In one week.

I knew I was tired for a reason.

He now weighs a whopping 7 lb. 8 oz. He is growing up too fast.

Like last week, Jones did not appreciate being stripped down to nothing and placed on a hard metal platform to get his weight. But unlike last week, he chose not to cry to show his disapproval. This week, as soon as his bare bottom hit the cool air, he tee-teed all over the nurse. And the wall. And the scale.

And then smirked afterwards.

Funny guy.
