Friday Favorite Five

I've been busy and I missed this last Friday and thought I would post my favorites for this week. This weekly favorites post is the brain child of Eve, so check out her blog.
Not in order of importance, well, except anything my kid does is automatically number one. :)
1. My 7yo daughter drew something cool this week at school. She's so awesome.
2 & 3. Paper from October Afternoon and Twill ribbon from May Arts. I found this at Scrappin' in the City for you East TN gals. I've been slobbering all over it since I got it on Wednesday.
4. Aurora Teagarden Mystery series by Charlaine Harris. I really love this author. She is southern and her books are set in the south and it's funny to me to read about southern things(sayings, churchy things, etc.) in the book because they are so true! In the second book, A Bone to Pick, Aurora is dating the local Episcopalian Minister and she asks him what he does with the youth group and he says, "Try to make them feel okay about not being Baptists and having a big recreation center to go to, mostly. We go in with the Lutherans and the Presbyterians, taking turns to have the young people on Sunday evening..." This struck me as funny because this is what happens where I live. The south in general is Baptist country and in my town, the Episcopalians, Catholics and Methodists go in together so they can scrape up enough kids for Bible School in the summer.
The books aren't funny though, they are murder mysteries but they are not dark like Ms. Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series. I'm on book 5 right now . 5. Last but not least, these neat ribbon keepers I found at Joann. They retail for $9.99 but I bought them at 40 or 50% off--I can't remember. I only have 2 and if you have a gigantic ribbon collection this may not be the storage solution for you. I love ribbon, I really do but I am very choosy when it comes to actually purchasing it. I don't buy it if I don't have paper to go with it--like I wouldn't buy a pair of shoes that I couldn't wear with outfits I already own. Make sense? So, this solution works for me. It has a storage compartment on top that can hold large scraps of ribbon or whatever else. I can see how much ribbon is left on the roll by looking at the back of the keeper. It comes with dividers so you can arrange spool sizes if you want. If the keeper is full I don't really use the dividers but they are handy. It will hold the large (25 yard 1/4" grosgrain) SU ribbon spools, and smaller ribbon spools, which has been my problem when looking for ribbon storage.
I could never find a keeper that held all the different spool sizes I had.
Ok, that's all my favorites this week. I'd love to hear what your favorites are...

Friday Favorite Five...

Ok, I forgot it was Friday. When dh is home 2 days in row it usually means it's Sunday. Thanksgiving has screwed me up and I'm proud to say I did not go back for seconds either. I ate one normal plate of food and was fine. Ok, so I did eat a piece of pumpkin cheese cake and a piece of pumpkin pie but it's cool. The pie was small.

Ok, here's my five.

1. Studio G $1 stamps. I picked these up tonight at Michaels. Look at the one with the black design--can you see something Twilight with this?

2. Adirondack Pitch Black pigment ink. It's really black, not purple black and it doesn't stink like Stazon.

3. Tonic 12" base guillotine paper trimmer. I've had this for 2 years and it's awesome. I'm so thankful I have it.

4. Nestabilities. I love these and love getting them at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon. Makes them about $15 a set.

5. Ribbon spools. I used my SU tab punch and rectangle scallop nestabilities to make some ribbon spools. I had several short strands of ribbon that needed straightening up. I punched them out of the cardboard-ish inserts that come with 12x12 paper packs.

Have a great weekend! Check out Eve's five here.

Friday Favorite Five and a picture my daughter drew...

I managed to get my 5 favs this week in one picture. Don't forget to check out Eve's favorites this week.

1. Martha Stewart Simple Scallop Edge punch. Ok, so I've got a thing (er, slight obsession) for MS. I can't help myself. The other night I sat on the couch transfixed as I watched Martha roast a turkey. What can I say, she's my crack. I'm rubbing my hands together in anticipation for her Cookies cookbook I just ordered. It's a good thing-- Right?

2. Distress Ink. I just bought my first pad and I really like it. I will eventually get a few more of the colors. When they are on sale and I can sneak them in the house. hee hee

3. Hat Pins. I'm loving that I can make my own beaded hat pins. I'm still puffed up about that, simple as it is.

4. Martha Stewart Glue Pad. I wanted The Essential Glue Pad but I couldn't find it locally and I saw Martha's glue pad and snatched it. It worked well and the glitter isn't falling off. Let's cross our fingers that it won't.

5. Last, but definitely not least, the confirmation of my Twilight movie ticket purchase. I was so pumped up last night when I bought the tickets that I did the dishes. If you'll notice in the close up, hubby and I are going tonight!! I still can't believe he offered to go with me. It's a Christmas miracle!

My 7yo daughter loves to draw and she keeps getting better. She drew this picture a couple of nights ago and I'm ashamed to admit that my first thought was that she traced it. She didn't. She's awesome and wants to be a fashion designer and a rock star when she grows up.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great Friday. I am off to finish cleaning the house in preparation for my youngest daughter's 5th birthday party tomorrow evening. I can't believe my baby is turning 5.

Friday Favorite Five

I'm back with my five favorite things for the week. Check out Eve's blog for her favorites.

1. The view from my porch (front & back). When I took Stella (my dog) out this morning, the fog in the trees was so pretty I just had to take a picture. The picture doesn't do the view justice. I also love the view from the back porch. In the last week, the leaves have fallen with gusto. Pretty soon we'll be able to see our neighbor's houses clearly through the trees. The first picture is from my front porch and there are no houses directly across the street form me and there won't be. That piece of land floods and the part that doesn't flood is uphill. There is also a trail up there. The second picture is from my back porch.
2. Kashi cookies. Man, these things are good. I ate the whole box this week. I love the chewy texture.
3. Cookie Exchange boxes. I attend a cookie exchange every year and shopping for the supplies is so much fun. I snagged this MS stuff from AC Moore on Wednesday.
4. Italian Sweet Cream creamer. Delicious.5. The used bookstore. I don't have a picture of it, but I love going. I found a book I wanted to read for .95 and another for $1.50! Most of the new paperbacks aren't much cheaper than you can get new at Wal-Mart, so I only buy the titles that are hard to find at a discount. I went on Wednesday and sold a bag of paperbacks and left with a bag of paperbacks. My 7yo was with me and she chose a Hannah Montana chapter book.
I'm off to get ready to eat lunch with my oldest daughter at school. She is recovering from a food allergy and looks pitiful. I will visit with her and bring her some anti-itch cream. She saw a TV spot about Mangos and wanted to try them. She liked the first mango, so I bought her another one a few days later. She had a small rash after the second mango and it was gone by the next morning and I didn't make the connection. On Tuesday I gave her a third mango and she broke out horribly and still looks bad today. I took her to the Dr. on Wednesday and determined she shouldn't eat mangos anymore. She is highly allergic to poison ivy and apparently mango skin has properties similar to poison ivy. She didn't eat the skin or even touch the skin, but the mango still affected her that way. I shudder at the thought of what a 4th mango would do to her.
Have a great friday!
