Guess who's back

Yes, the blog has been dead for the last month. The past month has been quite a complicated period of my life in the personal department. A lot of changes happened, while I was also trying to consolidate and put everything together(as usual).

But as usual , Point Blanc & Vrec don't dissapear and not come back ten times stronger, that's just not us, haha, so brace yourselves, ladies and gentlement, for 2008 as Point Blanc and Voyeur Records make a comeback fittingly in the month of August, the chinese lucky number 8 on the year of 2008:)

Read the upcoming posts to know what I mean! Voyeur Records!

BZ as hell, but I'm back!

As the title suggests, since my last post, alot happened, Man United won the Champions league too (BITCHES!!!!), I had a couple of shows both in and out of the country. And as usual, I have the whole running an independent record label, music publishing company and clothing line in between all that.

A lot of changes happened in my life too and as a result I decided to change the whole look of my blog to represent the situation. I also wanna be black and cool now. And by black I mean my blog background colour, haha.

For all those that read my blog, sorry for the lack of updates. I am very tempted to actually to go get a ghost blogger for me to keep the updates constant but I dunno, somehow I feel a blog should be authentic and personalised. That's the whole point of bloggin' ain't it? So bear with me during the post draughts but I assure when there is a post, its straight from my heart. REPRESENT!

Now, on the the post updates, and we got a few!Holla!

AIM don't like Point...

We constantly hear " Our music industry needs support, We need to support our local acts, etc" from all this big powers that be that represent our Malaysian music industry. Sadly, when it comes down to doing something about it, they then revert back to their rigid old ways and say "sorry, these are the rules"...hahah, hyprocrisy?

Me and the whole team spent a lot blood, sweat and tears (and lots of "independently funded" money) on "Straight to the Point". We wanted to break new grounds, do something that has never been done before. Multi lingual international standard hip hop but still retain the Malaysian identity. We did it and recieved lots of good reviews and most importantly support from the consumers and fans. Heck, we even had one of the biggest songs (Ipohmali) of last year.

But Point Blanc and "Straight to the Point" was not refelcted at all in this year's AIM awards. Why is that? I asked the same question when I found out that we were rejected from the AIM submissions. Excuses like " Too many rappers or singers and can't reconize the main artiste" surfaced (which is bullshit cos' most hip hop albums are packed with features)and their main point was that the album had to be 60%MANDARIN to qualify for the Best local CHINESE album. Does that make sense to you? Last I checked Chinese people also spoke Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, etc..so why don't just call it best local Mandarin album? And apparently when you don't qualify for a main category you can't qualify for the sub categories like best music video, best album cover, best vocal ,etc...DAMN!

The sad part is it is very hard for independent artistes to come up with a good product, it's not like every year there is a new album coming up as it involves a lot of time, effort and money. As for us, we put everything into "Straight to the Point" only to be snubbed due to a stupid technicality.

I had a lot of believe in the AIM awards previously having won some but somehow along the way, they have lost their way and main focus, which is to support and give credit to GOOD Malaysian music. I didn't even bother to watch this year's AIM not because I feel bitter but just that I don't see it's authenticity and what it stands for anymore..'Nuff said. Read the writeup below in the Star newspapers recently.

My bad for lack of post 'cos I was planning world domination:P

Ok, as the title suggest, there has been a slow supply of posts on my blog lately. Well, as usual, yo' boi Point is busy brewing up sum nu shit for the 08! I'm not one to say alot until shit is done and ready to be shipped out so I'll just say that Voyeur Records are up to a few projects for this year. yes, a FEW!

As usual, I get peeps askin' "So wht you up to lar? No news from you.." and as usual I reply " When new shit comes up y'all will know!" We at Vrec constantly trying to step up our game and these days I'm like the super multitasker with no social life..thats what you get when u try to be Jay AND Dame at the SAME time runnin' ROC with no Crack money, hahaha! Rap fans will know what I'm trying to say.

On a positive note, these past few weeks has been mind blowing as we have been in the studios working on some new material with some world class artistes so I'm really excited for the next few months ahead.

Checkout this space (as I'll try my best to blog more) for more Vrec music, releases, and more hot new Voyeurizm designs coming out REAL soon!

p/s: Checkout Jin's new blog! In his own words "The blog game reminds me of the rap game", haha classic one Jin!

Dreams do come true! The JIN post

Yesterdaynite was one night I will remember forever. It's one of those times in life you think you are dreamin' and you might wake up!Yup, I met my hero, my inspirational figure, my favourite emcee next to Nas and Jay, Jin, The EMCEE!!!
Its really crazy as 2 years ago I told myself I wanted to meet him someday, somehow and it felt so impossible what with me back in KL, and he is this big ass hip hop superstar! Flash forward 2008 and I'm talkin' to him backstage and watching him live!Crazy.

A lot of peeps and so called hip hop fans around here don't really know him as he should be known. Most know him only from his ABC Jin album, and some from his Freestyle Friday Battle days & some Youtube vids. But to me, Jin is one of the greatest emcees in the world, plus the most unbelievable fact is that he is CHINESE!!! I have most of his albums (some as mp3s cos I can't cop it here)and his feature joints. I seen all his battles from the classic Smack DVD Jin vs Verse to his 50 grand freestyle battles! This guy is unbelieveble and is the TRUTH! I relate a lot to him to a certain degree in terms of a chinese kid havin a fulltime career in hip hop, his industry journey, his ups and downs, his love for the artform, etc. Of course I will never be signed to Ruff Ryders nor be freestyling in BET..haha, this guy's discography is crazy!

The most amazing thing is that he is really as humble and down to earth as we see him to be. All that greatness and humility. I take my hats off to you Jin. I got nothing but mad love and respect for you. Good luck on your 49 venue Malaysian tour!

p/s: Jin, Glad you liked Ipohmali and I was listenin' & gettin' inspired by "The Emcee's Propaganda" while I was writing and recording "Straight to the Point"!

The Show! 1st of 49...in whole Malaysia! Watchout for Jin coming to a town near you!

You know this one's coming! Point Blanc & Jin!Supportin' each others' music! More things to come?

Jin, performin' in KL!Is this a dream?

He is TRULY the emcee! Totally rocked the mic and crowd! Stage presence, crowd repo, the whole works of a great EMCEE!

After the show we took sum pics with the dancers as well, Big up to Elecoldshot!

Jin's personal autograph to me! Thanks bruh! Means alot coming from someone like Jin!

Well, go check Jin out coming to a town near you! Holla!

A giving Christmas!

A person close to me once said I was always thinking about myself a lot and I should give back to society a lil when I can. Well, those words always stuck in my mind and after a good 2007 of God's blessings, me and some of the Vrec family decided to visit an orphanage and just give those kids some cool presents to make them happy.

We didn't do it for any publicity or tax exemptions but just wanted to make those lovely children happy and excited about Christmas. Cos' kids enjoy the present part of Christmas best! We visited the Praise Emmanuel Children's Home (PECH) in PJ.

We were so surprised to see the children so well behaved and so filled with love. I must really give credit to Mr. Christopher, the founder and main man of the home. He runs four of these homes for orphans, abandoned and abused kids. The best thing is, he is very commited and teaches them very good values. The experience visiting the home really made us reflect on how lucky we are and how we should all try to give something back to the less fortunate.

The children were so happy when they opened their presents and the joy and smile on their faces made our day. However, Mr Christopher told us that only during the seasonal events that alot of people and organizations pay attention to these kids. During the "non peak" seasons (which is the rest of the year) most people don't care and just go on with their lives. Sigh, it was sad to hear that and we hope to contribute as much as we can. So I take this opportunity to ask everyone to try to do something for the less fortunate sometime in their lives as the joy and self fulfillment after doing charity beats any high in the world.

If any of y'all wanna contribute, you can checkout the link here . And with that I wish everyone out there a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!HAVE A GOOD ONE PEOPLE!GOD BLESS Y'ALL!

Smile for the camera:)

Return of the Ipohmali blogger!

Ok folks, guilty as charged. I have NOT been updating my blog regularly. Now here comes the excuses and reasons. The past month had a lot of things happen in my life. Lots of changes in my personal and professional life. Add the whole puasa/raya holidays and BAM! I have not blogged for 2 weeks.

Professionally, I've had quite a busy month. I was hard at work shooting a movie all the way in Kuantan. You heard it here first, lookout for Point Blanc's acting debut role in the motion picture Hilang hitting cinemas in Febuary 2008. Besides the regular shows here and there we (Vrec) also succesfully launched our clothing line at last to much fanfare. Add to that the other hustles of running a record label/management company and you have one tired Ipoh boi. So I guess I deserve some rest right folks?

Anyways once again I come back making a pledge that I will blog again constantly. Thank you for coming back and supporting! Your boi is BACK!

Monday post

Monday blues, I've been constantly reminded that I need to blog on a daily basis so I'm going to double my efforts from now on.

Yesterday was a great relief for Man United fans all around the world. We got our first league win at last thanks to a superb long range shot by Portugese winger Nani. However, later after camera playbacks, it showed the ball touch Tevez's head slightly to tilt it beyond Paul Robinson's touch. Whose goal isit? Who cares? It was awesome and we got our important 3 points against Spurs. Now 5 points away from league leaders Chelsea, we are once again confident. Slow start but not too late for the champs. Go on United!

"Nani!He's the f**kin' man!!!"

On non football related news, I was surfing youtube and just wanted to post this video of me and Jaclyn Victor performing on NTV7's Thurday Nite Live a couple of months back. Just wanted to put it up cos' it is one of the only times I performed Ipohmali live and with Jac. For you guys out there who missed it.

Till the next post ppl:)

Kicks come, kicks go

Today a good friend of mine, Mr. Ivan Omar of Confessions of a Sneakerhead blog fame, gave me my first pair of Air Jordans. Yup, he is a certified sneakerhead (and good friend!) when a gift from him is a pair of Air Jordan III Fire Reds! And I love Fire Red colourways cos' its like the V Rec corporate colours! Thanks again Ivan for the dope kicks!

My first Jordans!

On the other hand, I'm selling my limited edition Invisible Women Air Force Ones. I only wore these babies once (as seen on the Ipohmali music video) and are in brand new condition. Only 30 pairs came in Malaysia and these sold out instantly as there was a line for it on the day of release. I personally lined up for these babies. Checkout my sale thread at streething here

Any bidders?

Point Blanc FAQ

Aight, its been almost 8 months since I made a comeback to the entertainment scene and the eyes of the public. In these past months, I had loads of questions and comments thrown at me. SO I decided to compile most of the ones that are the most common and address them here. Let the Point Blanc FAQ roll:

1) Is Point Blanc from Ipoh? (Yes, I get that sometimes)
Yes, he is or it wouldn't be fair for him to write about a song that means "From Ipoh".

2)Is there really an Ipoh Garden Eastside or is it just some wannabe gangsta rap line?
Yes, there is an Ipoh Ganden East (and a South too). For hip hop and creative writing purposes, I decided to add the "side" to east just to get the attention it did.lol.

3)Why is Point Blanc's hair blonde/colourful?. Look so jeng, ah beng , ah pek, etc...Rappers are suppose to be bald or dreaded like the African Americans.
Once again, I am out to prove a point that you do not have to FULLY emulate African Americans to be "hip hop". Mix it a bit and make it your own. Which is what I wanted to do with my image recently, I wanted to be the keep it real Chinese emcee. And the Chinese "Ah beng " stereotype can be cool too if styled properly. Once again its a keep your mind open kinda mentality. Don't put so many barriers on music or image. Have fun. Fuck what other ppl say:)

4)Are those Point's REAL parents in the music video and CD for the Ipohmali intro?
Yes they are. Michael & Gladys Ong. Love them to death.

5)Did they really say all those things back in the day when Point wanted to be a rap star in KL?
Other then the gynaecologist @##$% line which was written in for some humour, yes, that scenario was almost identical to the real situation 12 years ago.

6)Why did you do your album in 3 languages?
Cos' I can. lol.

7) Who are Voyeur Records?
So far we are:-
Point Blanc:- CEO, Artiste, Songwriter, Producer
Bie:- Business Director, Second in command, Point's personal manager/advisor
Uncle Real:- Songwriter, Artiste, Creative Head
MajoR R.E.:- Producer, Beatmaker, Songwriter, Humble & Great dude!
Tasha:-Publicist, Special adviser to Point, Point's boo
Excaliber aka Teoh Chuin Wah:- A&R Exec, Event Coordinator, Streeteam General, Resident Comedian and loyal dude!
IVI:- Honourary Vrec teamster

8) Are you still with Poetic Ammo?
Yes, I am. Ammo is in hybernation mode at the moment but we might return with a bang! Me and Yogi are concentrating on our solo careers at the moment. AMMO 4 life!

9) Whats next for Point Blanc?
Well, Point and the Vrec crew will be working hard to promote "Straight to the Point" and this will include, press, media and publicity rounds, shows and an upcoming nationwide tour. Keep a lookout on my blog and official website for the latest news!

10)Why the name Point Blanc?
Cos' Nicholas Ong ain't cool as a rap name:P. I'm a straight to the Point kinda dude. What u see is what u get, no bullshit and ass kissing. Hence, Point Blanc (spelled with a C instead of K for coolness factor.

There you go:) U liked this post?maybe i'll do a Pt2...send in your FAQs:)
