How did the name "SE3ST0R F4NSUB5" come about?
Well, our founding SE3ST0RS (sisters) slowdanse and Do0mAid are pretty goofy girls. It was just coincidence that around the same time they were joking about 1337 (leet) typing, the both agreed they'd always wanted to try fansubbing. After deciding they just had to be "se3st0rs" because of their similar music taste and other interests, came... "Hey maybe we should call ourselves 'se3st0r f4nsub5'!" and low and behold... SE3ST0R F4NSUB5 was born. To make the name shorter we also call ourselves 3045 (the numbers from our full name).
What kind of videos do you sub?
All kinds! In the beginning we focused on well-known Asian pop artists, but now we are expanding to dramas and other genres of music. We also cover a variety of languages (Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Thai). If you have any videos you'd like to have us sub simply go to this page, and provide us with a link to the best quality video you can find in the comments!
How long does it take you to sub a video? How long will it take for you to get to my request?
This depends on many things. Some of them being:
- How long the video is.
- How complicated is the language used in the video, and how clear is the speaking.
- Our other current projects (especially the current projects in the language of your video)
- How busy our members are in their real lives! Semester finals and other complications may slow down the completion of a project.
We will work our hardest to complete your request, or the video you are looking forward too as quickly as possible, so we appreciate your patience!
Can I upload your videos on my own account (Youtube, Veoh, ect.)?
Yes, you may re-upload our released MVs and episodes on other sites; however you must properly credit to our fansubbing team (SE3ST0R F4NSUB5).
Can I use your translations on my own video?
Yes, you may translate our English subtitles to other languages you'd like to sub videos in, but you MUST hardsub a credit to us on the video.
Ex: Original Translations: SE3ST0R F4NSUB5
What kind of jobs do subbing teams have? What do RAW providers/translators/timers/QCers/ect. do?
Subbing a video takes a lot of people! Everyone works together to make the final product, here are their job descriptions:
RAW Provider
- Find the best quality version of the video to be subbed available
- Delivers link/torrent to the project coordinator
(A RAW is a video that hasn't been subbed yet)
Translator
- Translates the dialogue/lyrics into natural sounding English
Spot Translator
- Makes sure the translation is as accurate as possible
- Fills in any missing lines
Editors
- Double checks the English translation to make sure grammar is correct
- Fixes any capitalization or puncuation problems
Timer
- Uses a program to match the subtitles with the speaking/singing on the video
- Saves the subtitle file and sends to project coordinator
Typesetter
- Edits the subtitle file to make sure all subtitles are positioned properly/
- Adds an neccesary effects such as fades, karaoke, ect.
- Chooses appropriate colors, font styles, and sizes for the subtitles
Quality Checker (QCer)
- Watches the entire video to fix any timing errors
- Watches the subtitles for the final grammar/spelling check
Encoder/Uploader
- Takes the video the RAW providers found and coverts it to .AVI
- Combines the subtitle file and video into one hardsubbed video file
- Uploads to appropriate 3045 accounts, including Crunchyroll, YouTube, and d-addicts if neccesary.
Can I join the subbing team?
Of course! We're always looking for new dedicated members to join us SE3ST0RS. At the moment we're only looking for female members (hence our name), but in the future we maybe look for male members as well! For more information on applying click here.
