Oh How I Love My Bo

I had a post all lined up in my head today that I was going to write about but then I checked my email and got an email from my Dad with super cute pics of Bo. So I decided to do a Bo post instead. If you read nothing of this post just skip down to the last picture, it will make you laugh. Every time I look at it, it seriously cracks me up!

My Dad went up to our house in Traverse City earlier this week and wanted to take Bo with him. My Dad totally loves Bo and the two of them love spending time together, so I decided to let Bo go and have some fun for a few days. Apparently the two of them are having a great time. They were supposed to come home tonight, but my dad called and said it would not be until Friday now since the weather is nicer. I kind of think the two of them might try and push it until Saturday. The first night they were gone my Dad (who recently has retired) sent me an email...a long email about what the two of them did during the day. Bo remembered right where all of his toys were kept from spending the last two summers up there. He has a darn good memory!

This morning I woke up from another email from Dad, but this time it was a slide show of about 20 different pictures of my Bobo complete with little captions. (Perhaps Dad is a little bored now that he has retired) Ry and I joked that he should think about getting a little Boston puppy of his own to help occupy some his time. Then Bo would also have another play buddy!!!

In all other Bo news he is doing great! He totally loves Ry (I think even more than me) and he loves J.J and Lil Man tons too. He also loves going over to Ry's parents house. They have a huge fenced in back yard, so he can run for hours chasing balls and squirrels. They also have a Boston, named Rocky and they love playing together as well. His allergies still bother him almost all the time. We are getting to the hard part of the year so we will see what this spring does for him. He is on an adult Benadryl two times a day now, so I'm hoping that will help. I'm hoping to avoid the biweekly trips to the vet this spring for allergy shots. We shall see. Oh the things I do for my little baby. Other than that all is good with Bo, he is one happy little boy! I love him more every day....he is my baby.

Now are you ready for some pictures of the handsome little guy?

My Dad and Bo stopped off at one of the local ski hills on the way up to Traverse. Bo loved getting out of the car and walking around the hill with Grandpa.

Bo's all time FAVORITE activity...catching tennis balls. Seriously, if there is a tennis ball anywhere in our house he will find it and you MUST play with him. God help you if it's nice out, expect to be out all day with him.

Loves...loves....loves catching the ball.

So sleepy after catching and running with the ball all day. Try to take the ball from him and I guarantee he will wake up.

I can not believe he went into the lake. Dad said there was ice in it when they woke up that morning. It wasn't even hot up there. Bo does love the water though, he probably couldn't wait to take his first dip of the season.

Oh goodness, this makes me cold just looking at it. I think I remember telling my Dad not to let him go into the lake because it was too cold still. (Yes, I treat my dog like a child...is that wrong?)

Ok...are you ready for the cutest picture ever? The first time I looked at this I laughed out loud. It seriously is damn funny and if you "know" Bo and his personality it is even better!

"I said...I don't want to get out of the water!!!" Really, do you see his cute little tongue sticking out? What a priceless picture. I'm going to the store tomorrow and getting it frames. Seriously love it!

Well, there you have it, a few new pics of Bo. Oh how I love my little Bobo!

Happy 2nd Birthday Bo!!

So this past week was Bo's second birthday! Can you believe it my little baby boy is two!! He was very excited about his birthday too. Can you tell by this picture?
This picture just cracks me up!!

So some of you have been asking what Bo has been up to, well I will tell you. He totally 100% loves, loves, loves Ry and his kids. I actually think he might love Ry even more than me. He gets so excited every time he sees Ry. Ry's parent's have a Boston Terrier named Rocky and the two of them play every night and Bo loves playing there with Rocky! Just tonight I asked Bo if he wanted to go play with Rocky and he got his leash off the shelf and took it to the door and whined to go outside.

Let's see what else has my boy been up to? Almost every weekend this summer Bo has gone up to Traverse City with my Dad. He LOVES swimming and jumping off of the dock into the water. He and my dad also have spent countless hours this summer playing baseball. My dad will throw the ball and Bo will run like a crazy dog to catch it and bring it back to him and they will do it over and over again. Actually, Bo will play ball with anyone who will throw a play to him.

Another picture of Bo staring at a new little something at the house. Keep reading to find out what Bo was staring at.

Bo's allergies have been a bit better this summer than they were last. I think we have only been to the vet twice since April with allergy related issues. That is way way less than we were there last summer, when we were at the vet every three weeks. Yay for that!! I no longer make his dog food. The vet seems to think he now has environmental allergies instead of food. So now he gets a Benadryl two times a day and that has really been helping. The poor thing still licks his paws like crazy at night and still itches every day but the Benadryl does seem to be helping.

This summer with the help of my parents and Ry's daughter Bo also learned a new trick. He now can sit, shake and drum roll please....lay down!!
See he really can do it. He was laying down right after he came in from outside, that is why his leash is still on.

Two Saturday's ago both Ry and I thought Bo was getting sick. He was totally fine in the morning and then all of a sudden in the afternoon he just was not acting his chipper, crazy self. At one point we looked at him and he was laying next to me on the floor and he was shaking like a leaf. He would not eat his Kong of carrots (which he always does) and he kept walking around the house with his little ears set back instead of all soft and floppy how they always are. He also would not eat his dinner and Bo ALWAYS eats anytime food is offered to him. So something was obviously wrong, but we really didn't know what. I of course was starting to freak out a little inside that something was really wrong with him. Ry said not to worry about it, maybe he just having an off day. Ry and I finished watching the UofM football game and then went out to dinner. That is when the weirdest thing happened. As soon as the football game was over and we had stopped yelling at the TV Bo started acting totally fine. Then it dawned on us. He is not used to yelling and was scared out of his skin because we were yelling at the TV and the the poor thing kept thinking we were yelling at him. We both felt awful. Kind of funny a dog who was named after a college football coach was scared of the football game.

A picture of Bo playing baseball over Memorial Day weekend.

Like I said on Sunday was Bo's birthday he got a few new bones, some Nylabones, a new ball and are you ready for this....I'm also 100% sure that the following picture was Bo's favorite gift....
Bo got a new kitty for his birthday!! Let me tell you Bo was oh-so-excited. Okay, maybe not! He really does love the kitty, but he might love her just a little bit too much! We haven't figured out yet if he just wants to play with her, or chomp her up in one big bite. It has been an interesting last few days with Bo and Toby. That is what we decided to name the little kitty. Yes, it is a girl and yes Toby is a boy's name but Toby won the vote. So Toby it is, she is getting fixed anyways so does a name really matter? I say no. Toby is about the smallest cat I have ever seen, she is six weeks old and if she weighs a whole two pounds I would be shocked. But she is eating like a pro so hopefully she will gain weight quickly and we won't have to worry about Bo batting her around so much.

Here is a picture of Ry's kids with Toby. They both love her to pieces and are very excited to have a kitty and a dog!
This last picture is of Bo and Toby playing, well trying to play. The two of them haven't officially gotten to the love stage of their relationship yet. As a matter of fact I'm not sure they have even gotten to the tolerate part of the relationship. Now that I look at this picture it looks like Bo is pinning Toby down and Toby is clawing the crap out of Bo's face. I promise neither of them were harmed getting this picture. If anyone has ever had a very spoiled dog and then brought a kitten home I would love any suggestions on getting them to love each other.
I hope you all enjoyed a this post mostly about Bo and a little of Toby. Thank you to all of you for asking about Bo and was wondering how he has been doing. He is great and is as big of a Momma's boy as ever, and I would be lying if I said I didn't like it! What can I say he is my baby!!

How About Dog Food From Scratch? #10

Wow! I think I may have stooped to a new all time low on this blog. I never would have thought in a million years I would do a post about home-made dog food. Hahaha....I really do have lots of stuff to blog about, however, I have been gone for almost 13 hours today and well I'm just plain tired. The dog food post will be easy and quick to write, so that is what it will be. Actually, I have had a few people ask me about how I made the food. So here it goes...

I started out baking two sweet potatoes and two white potatoes. Then I took off the skin and mashed them all up.
Next, I boiled four cups of water and then added two cups of rice. I cooked the rice until it was really mushy and not rice like. Dogs can't break down the rice unless it is mushy. I think it is because they don't have the enzyme to break down the rice.

Both kind of potatoes mashed up.

Then I added about one cup of shredded carrots. Bo LOVES carrots. I'm not kidding when I say he eats about a bag a week.

Alright this picture looks nasty as all get out, but I then boiled four small chicken breasts. Ugh...the picture really makes me want to gag. After I boiled it, I cut it up into little cubes.

Bo tasting it to make sure it was just right.

Oh yeah...he likes it!

The finished product. Does it look yummy to you? Well, Bo LOVES it, he thinks it is Thanksgiving two times a day, without the cranberries.

It only took me about 45 minutes to make all of this. I made enough to feed Bo for a week and he gets one cup of food two times a day. If you have a bigger dog you may need to make more, and if your dog is small then less. I have still been mixing Bo's dog food into this home-made stuff, just because I'm not sure how long I will keep making it. I mainly decided to give this a try to see if it would help with his allergies. I think it is helping, but then again it is really hard to tell because he got that last steroid shot right before he started eating this.

However since I made this food I have also started doing some research on dog food, what it is made out of and dog allergies. Uhm...I will tell you that there are some scary things in dog food. I was shocked to find out some of the ingredients. I'm not going to name the brand of food I give Bo. I will say that it is a very popular, well known brand and it is on the more expensive side of things. Well, the second ingredient listed is Chicken by product. I thought chicken by product was more chicken meat, just not from the breast. I was so wrong! Instead it is the part of the chicken that is thrown out. I'm talking the beak, feet, claws, and tips of the feathers. GROSS!!! I was not happy when I found that out. After reading tons of dog food labels the last few weeks I have come to realize that many dog food brands use this in their food. So after we get Bo's allergies under control and figure out exactly what he is allergic to I will be switching dog food brands, if not still making my own.

Oh and just to note, if any of you do want to start making your own dog food that is fine and fine by most all vets. However, if it becomes a long term thing then you will need to add a vitamin and mineral supplement into your dogs food.

So there you have it...home-made dog food. Back to regular 'exciting' posting tomorrow.

Bo Oh Bo!! #4

I don't think I have had a post totally devoted to Bo since his birthday, so I figured it was about time. Plus the little guy needs some get well wishes once again.

It was a year ago on Friday that I brought Bo home. It is hard to believe that he has been with me for a year already.
This is a picture of Bo on his first night home. It was the day before Halloween so of course he had to wear his UofM uniform. I can't believe how tiny he was. So cute!

These are a few pictures I took of Bo within the last few days. Usually around 9:00 at night he will curl up on the couch and crash until it is time to go to bed for the night. I took the other picture this morning. We had to get up early, and he was not happy that I woke him up. He loves to sleep in. I usually end up waking him up around 8:30 or 9:00. I'm so happy he is no longer in the lets get up at 6:00 a.m. lets play phase.

For those of you wondering, yes Bo still sleeps with me at night. He starts off the night in his crate and then usually around 1:00 he starts to whine and needs to come into bed with me. He curls right up into my side and usually stays there for the majority of the night. If he wants to get under the blankets he will paw at my shoulder until I lift the blankets up for him. Bo really likes to cuddle and snuggle during the night. In the morning when he wakes up he lays on his back and must have his tummy scratched before he gets out of bed.

The biggest issue Bo is facing right now is allergies. We have been to the vet every four to five weeks since May! I'm not even exaggerating when I say that. It has been horrible! (and expensive!) Bo's problems started in May and have gotten progressively worse all summer. First it just started out with little red bumps under his chin that would not go away. After a few days I took him to the vet and she said it was most likely seasonal allergies and that he was probably having a reaction to all the grass and flowers that were starting to bloom. He was given antibiotics and a steroid to keep him from itching his little chin off. That pattern continued all summer. He would get better for a few weeks then a few weeks later the spots would reappear.

By the end of August the vet and I began to wonder if Bo was having an allergic reaction to the rawhide bones he was chewing on. Uhm, did you all know that rawhide bones are made from the skim that comes off of cow bones after they take all the meat off of the bone. GROSS!! Apparently beef is a common allergy for dogs. So I took all of Bo's rawhides away and boy was he sad. He loved chewing on those nasty things. Again, his chin cleared up and I thought maybe things were getting better. I was wrong!

By the middle of September the poor little guy was covered in little red hives all over his tummy and under his chin. He also began itching almost none stop. He would itch and scratch so bad that he would even cry. I tried the Benadryl thing for a while, but it just wasn't helping all that much. So off the vet we went again. This time instead of oral steroids that I would give Bo he was given a shot that was to last four to six week and relieve the itching Bo was having. At that appointment the vet told me that typically dogs don't start experiencing allergies until later in life and that it was pretty unusual for a dog of Bo's age to have allergies, especially allergies as bad as he was having. Just my luck! The vet and I decided that Bo would need allergy testing to find out exactly what he was allergic to. Since the shot he was given was supposed to last four to six weeks we figured around the middle of November he would get the testing done. See, the catch is that Bo can not have any of the shot or other allergy medicine in his system at the time of testing because it will not give clear results.

Well that last shot was exactly four weeks ago yesterday. Any of you want to take a guess as to what Bo broke into over the weekend? If you guessed more hives and itching then you were right. Two days before the shot was even supposed to start wearing off Bo began itching and he itched all weekend long. There is no fur behind his ears, his tummy is all red and broke out, his chin looks like road rash, and he is also losing a little fur around his eyes. He also started chewing on his back legs like they are a piece of corn on the cob. I felt so bad for him Sunday night that I wanted to cry. I felt bad for him and I am starting to get very frustrated because I don't know what to do to help him. The only good thing is he is acting all right, it's not like it is knocking him down or anything but still I know it hurts him when he itches.

Yesterday morning we went back to the vet. He didn't see his usual vet, but another in the office. She said the same thing that he was way way to young to be having allergies this severe so young in life and said that we definitely need to get the allergy testing done. She had to give him another shot to help with all the inflammation so hopefully he can make it six weeks without a break out and then he can have the testing done. The vet also said Bo could be well on his way to prescription dog food. Yeah, you read that right prescription dog food. Dog food to the tune of $70-$90 a bag!!!!! YIKES!!! We left the vet yesterday with another bill around $100, more antibiotics, a pro biotic to help him digest the food, and fish oil to help calm down his itchy skin.

Just by guessing they are thinking that Bo does have environmental allergies, but they are also thinking he has sever food allergies. Most likely allergic to beef, wheat, and corn. Those seem to be the top allergies in dogs. Almost all the dog food on the market is made with corn, that is why she suggested prescription food. I however did some research yesterday on the internet and I found a recipe for home made dog food. It has either rice or oatmeal, two white potatoes, one sweet potato, carrots, and chicken. So starting tomorrow I'm going to start making Bo's food. He didn't have any of these problems when he was on puppy food. I'm thinking it has to be something in all the processed dog foods. I mean I was going to make my own baby food for the baby, so I guess why not do it for Bo right? Please tell me I'm not crazy for doing this. I just don't know what else to do for him, I thought it was worth a shot.

Other than Bo's allergy related drama he is doing really good. His behavior is getting better and better all the time. He goes to Puppy Camp one day a week and absolutely loves it. He loves playing and socializing with all the other dogs. I ask him in the morning if he wants to go to school and he will go and get his leach. His leach that he only wears at school. Yeah, he is that smart! He even knows when I'm having a bad day. On Sunday night when I went to bed, he curled up right next to me and laid his head on my chest and fell asleep that way. My brother is bringing his Boston Terrier home for Thanksgiving, Bo and Porter always have a great time playing together.

Well, by now I'm sure all of you are bored out of your minds reading about Bo's allergies. I still can't believe that he has been here for a year. I love the little guy so much and he really has helped me through the most difficult time of my life. Even the vet said the other day that she can tell that Bo and I have a very special relationship. I would say that we do.

Do any of you have any other tips or suggestions with dogs with severe allergies? I would greatly appreciate any help you may have.

National Blog Posting Month #1

Well today is November 1. Does anybody know what that means? The first day of the month, the day before my birthday (yes my 32nd birthday is Monday), the start of National Blog Posting Month. If you guess any of the three you get a star! Today kicks off something in the blogging world called National Blog Posting Month or NaBloPoMo. During the month of November you post to your blog every single day! I did it last year, although I wasn't officially signed up. This year I decided to sign up as well. That is how I got this nifty little button.

Visit NaBloPoMo

So like I said you post every day of the month. It sounds way easier than it actually is. Coming up with 30 days straight of good 'material' to blog about is easier said than done. I can't remember all of my posts last year. I will have to go back and look to make sure I don't post the same thing twice. By the end of the month you start getting writer's block.

As I mentioned in my last post if you all have any ideas, thoughts, or topics you want me to post about during this time please leave me a comment and let me know. Over the last few days I have been writing a few ideas down in the little notebook that I keep on my desk. I'm sure a few other topics will just come to me. But, really if you have any ideas I would love to hear them. Also during this time of writing every day please please please leave comments. Your comments are a great form of encouragement, especially when the writers block kicks in. Don't worry, just because I will be writing every day doesn't mean that I will stop reading or posting comments to your blogs. Of course I will still be reading and commenting....it's what I do. :)

Now onto some Halloween fun. Well, I thought it was funny, I don't think Bo thought it was one bit funny.

Bo's Halloween T-shirt with with glow in the dark letters and a glow in the dark ghost and pumpkin eyes. He really didn't mind wearing the T-shirt. Here is his actual costume. For about two minutes he wore a Frankenstein hat and collar. I think his little face is about one of the cutest things in this picture. Actually, now that I'm really looking at it, he looks kind of sad.

I guess the above look is better than the pure look of being extremely pissed off that he is displaying here.

Seriously, he wore the costume for about two minutes and then I took it off him. Good thing I got it on clearance a few days ago. I have lots more to tell you about Bo, but I'm keeping that for another post!

Alright, I hope you all don't get bored reading me for 30 days straight. Again if you have any ideas let me know. I hope you all had a great Halloween!

Bo's Birthday!!

Saturday was Bo's first birthday!! Of course I took a few pictures of the big day so I thought I'd share them with you. There are also a few pictures of him from the night I picked him out and his first night home.
This was taken on Saturday morning. Like how the little dude stretches out and takes up almost the entire bed? He slept til 9:30 on Saturday, he must not of known or cared that it was his birthday!

This picture was taken his first night home. Wasn't he so small and cute? I mean look at that sweet little face!

This was from the night I went to pick him out. He was the only one in the litter with his eyes open.

Birthday Boy!! I took this picture on Saturday morning. He still has a cute face, but he is lots bigger than he was when I brought him home. He was not interested in taking pictures, he saw me get a bag of new toys out and he wanted to play.

Can we say spoiled little dog? All of these were birthday gifts for him. Some are from me, others are from my parents, sister, brother and his fiancee Erika.

Ok, I admit it, I also got him a new leash and collar set. I had too, a dog named Bo after the UofM football team really did need that collar.

"Can I pplleeaasseee play with my new toys now?" Bo saw me take his new toys out of the bag and put them on the counter, he started jumping as soon as I got them out. A few times he was air born, but of course I couldn't get that picture. Bo loves to jump, I really think he is half kangaroo.

He was so excited to play with his new toys. He played and played all morning and then slept most of the afternoon. It was kind of funny because he put all of his toys on the floor and played with each and every one of them. After he played with each of them he realized his favorite new toy was a chicken flavored Nylabone.

All in all Bo had a great first year. Yes, he had his fair share of being sick with odd things I never knew that puppies could get. Such as getting pink eye and the flu. I mean what dog gets pink eye and the flu? The little guy has also had his fair share of allergy problems, but I think we have got that under control...at least for now. The vet suggested he have allergy testing in late October so we can figure out exactly what he is allergic to. So we will be doing that within the next month.

Other than the allergy issues Bo is doing great. He is still very attached to me, and yes he still sleeps in my bed with me, but I really don't mind. It is nice to have something to snuggle up to at night. The highlight of Bo's week is when he goes to Doggie Camp...he loves it and has a favorite little buddy that he plays with every Tuesday when he goes.

I'm so glad that I got Bo just about a year ago. He has been a ton of work, as he is a rather "high maintence dog", but he has helped me through a lot this last year and I love him lots and lots!

Happy Birthday Bo!!

(yes, I'm a person who loves their dog probably more than I should...but that's ok...I think!)

Want To See Bo Pictures?

A friend of mine brought it to my attention the other day that I haven't blogged about Bo in some time and she wanted to see pictures. So I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Bo is now almost 9 months old. He is still very much a puppy but is getting so much better in other areas. He no longer tries to eat your toes or pull on your pant legs, that was getting oh so old. Almost all of my yoga pants have little holes in them from his sharp teeth. We are still working on sitting, staying, and coming. He does well with sit, but come and stay still need some practise. He is totally house broke and has been for some time. (Well when he isn't on a steroid...more about that in a few) Last month Bo and I went for another round of puppy school and the guy was AMAZING. So much better than the first round. We went to a guy who is like the Dog Whisper, no really I swear, this guy is wonderful with dogs and their owners and really tries to get to the root of the problem behavior and deal with it that way. During the month I learned many new things on how to handle Bo. He told me that many will come with time as Bo gets older. It was a great class and I can't wait to go back in the Fall. All in all Bo's crazy behavior is improving as he gets older, we still have things to work on, but I guess what puppy doesn't and I'm sure most of that will come with time and more practise. I also must admit that Bo still sleeps with me in my bed. Most of the night he lays on top of the covers, but when he wants to get under he will come up and paw at my shoulder for me to let him under the blankets. At first I didn't want him sleeping with me, but I actually don't mind now. He starts off in his crate and then around 1:00-2:00 he will jump in bed with me. Oh well could be worse I suppose!

Bo has also started going to Puppy Camp one day a week. Yes, you read it right, I said Puppy Camp. It is really like a daycare where you would take a child. The same guy who we took Puppy class from owns it and it is great for the dogs. There are 3 different playgrounds for the different size dogs. They take them swimming, on walks, and roller blading. Some dogs go every day while others go a few times a week. Bo totally loves it and comes home so so tired. When we walk in the door he jumps on the couch and pretty much stays there all day. Get this, when it rains or is too hot for the dogs they even have 2 indoor play areas with climbing structures for the dogs. The place is great, you should look into it where you live. Bo loves to play with his Kong. We found out he is allergic to cheese but if you put some carrots in here he takes it over to his mat and it will keep him busy for a long time.
While we were playing outside this week I discovered that Bo likes to chase
bubbles. I wondered what he would do with them so yesterday my mom blew bubbles and Bo just chased them around the yard. He even caught a few in his mouth while waking on his hind legs. He has talent! It's so hot out here!
"I did nothing wrong and I don't want my picture taken" Oh well!!

This picture just cracks me up.
Chewing on one of his favorite things...rawhides
So sleepy after a long day of playing.

"Can we please go to bed now?"
Ok, I'm almost done talking about my dog, I promise, but first I have a quick question for those of you who have dogs or those of you who have Boston Terriers. Does any of your dogs have allergies? If so what do you do for them?
I ask because about a month ago Bo started having a runny nose, watery eyes and started doing this god awful sneeze type thing, that is called a reverse sneeze. It sounds like he is having an asthma attack. I took him to the vet and was told that he has seasonal allergies. He was put on a month's supply of allergy medicine. He just stopped taking it on Tuesday. Then last week I noticed his chin was starting to break out and get all red. I thought it was just from him chewing on his rawhides. Then one day he was in the bathroom with me and I noticed there was blood all over the floor. He has itched his skin so much that he broke open the skin. I gave it a closer look and realized it looked like it was infected. Off to the vet we went again. The vet said he has Moist Dermatitis. A skin allergy that can stem from a variety of things. We left the office with an antibiotic and anti-itch spray. After two days it was only getting a little better and poor Bo was still scratching under his chin. I talked to the vet again and she gave him a prescription for the steroid Prednisone which was to help take away the itch and inflammation of his skin. Only problem this medicine makes him pee all of the time and has had a few accidents this week. Poor puppy. I'm not even joking last week Bo was on 4 different types of medicine for his allergies. Who would have thought a dog with both skin and seasonal allergies! I swear it's just my luck to have a dog with 'special needs' Anyways he is doing better this week. His chin has healed nicely and he is even back to chewing on his rawhides. He wasn't happy with me when I had to take them away to let his chin heal.
Well there you have it. A LONG post all about Bo!
Oh- I'm loving reading a bunch of new blogs. I will be adding your blog to my blog roll shortly and commenting soon.

Bo's Turn

Guys..I'm sorry as you read on in this post, for some reason it is one huge paragraph and it won't let me add space between them. I've tried several times. Sorry I know it is hard to read that way, just wanted to let you know.

I've been saying for a while now I was going to write about Bo. However, Bo has been kind of pushed to the side this week because I have had other things....such as horrible bad days I've wanted to write about instead. Sorry Bo, I know you took a back burner on the blog. Several of you have emailed me asking about how he has been. So this is for you, a post all about Bo!

Last Friday Bo went to his first day of Puppy Camp. I know this sounds totally ridiculous but Bo LOVED it! I had several things I needed to do last Friday so I thought it would be a perfect day for him to go. I dropped him off at 9:00 in the morning and picked him up at 6:00. While he was there he got to play with other dogs is size. He loves to play with other dogs so this was a really good way for him to interact. The owners of Puppy Camp also do several activities with the dogs during the day. Bo went on a bike ride, went for a walk and I think they even took him roller blading that afternoon. The place really is great. They have 3 outdoor play areas, one for puppies, one for bigger dogs, and then one for older dogs. Each dog also has it's own little cubby to store it's belongings for the day. It is like daycare for dogs. Who would have thought! Anyways Bo loved it and was soo very tired that night when he got home. The following are a few pic's I took the night he came home. This was taken right before he went to sleep that night. He curled up on my bed and could hardly keep his little eyes open.
Out cold!!!

Just leave me alone, I played so hard today!

He didn't care who was looking or who was taking picture's of him. He rolled onto his back and fell asleep this way.
Nobody touch my Kong...It's mine...all mine
Last but not least Bo's 7 month picture. (No I don't take pictures of him every month, this just happened to be his 7 month b-day)
Ok, what else can I tell you about my "perfect" little Boston Terrier. Oh I have something for you....How about he isn't perfect!!!! I think if Bo was a human he would be in the toddler stage of development. He is going on a little wild streak the last few weeks and is into EVERYTHING. If there is something in his reach then he will get it and run away with it. I actually think he has springs hidden in his back legs because even if he can't reach what he wants he will jump on his back legs and do this little jump/dive thing and get it. I tried to write this post a few hours ago but every time I sat down the little guy was into everything. Newspaper, plants, pot holders, rugs, pillows, shoes, you name it he will put it in his mouth and run with it, ripping it to shreds in the process. Well, all besides his toys. He won't play with his toys unless someone is playing with him. I guess you could say he doesn't play well on his own.
There are times when he knows his name and will turn his little head to look at you. Then there are the times when you call his name and he just runs in the other direction and acts like he doesn't know you are talking to him. I told him just a few minutes ago it was a good thing he is so cute, because he sure was being a naughty little puppy a few hours ago. I guess I wouldn't say that Bo is a bad dog by any stretch of the imagination, however he does have a wild streak in him as of late. It is kind of funny because when we are down in Youngstown he doesn't really act like he does here at home. I think it's because he always has the boys (his brothers) to play with when we are there and the four boys do a great job of keeping him busy and tired! More than anything I think it is the "Terrier" in him. It sure hasn't helped the last few days that it has been raining like crazy and he can't go outside.
Lucky for us...mainly me because I'm starting to run out of patience with him we will be starting round two of puppy class next week. I'm taking him to a different person this time. We will be going to where Bo goes to Puppy Camp. When I took Bo last week the guy had Bo sitting and staying within two minutes of him being there. I have no idea what he did, but it worked. The guy is like my own little Dog Whisper! I've been working on sitting and staying with Bo since Christmas. I'm starting to think I may have spoiled Bo a little too much when he was really young, either that or I really have NO idea on how to raise a "good" dog. I by no means want a show dog. I would just like a nice little dog that sits and stays when I tell him, comes when he calls, and doesn't jump. I know Bo is still a puppy but I think the two of us have a lot to work on the next few months. Please wish us luck...I think we need it.
Oh for those of you who are still wondering...yes, Bo still sleeps with me in my bed. He starts off the night in his cage, but then usually ends up crying to come into my bed anywhere from mid-night -2:00. According to the new trainer it is just fine to let your dog sleep with you. Phew!! Bo is also still very much attached to me. The other day I left for a while and my Mom said that Bo just sat staring at the door for the longest time, when she took him outside he went to the spot where I park my car and just sat there. When I come in the door Bo takes off running to me with his little ears tucked down in excitement. It really is about the cutest little thing and does make me feel loved. The other night as I was bawling my eyes out while falling asleep Bo kept looking at me. He was at the end of the bed, but after a few minutes he came up to my pillow, looked at me with his little head tilt and then licked all of my tears off of my face, then he curled up right by my neck and slept there the entire night, something he hasn't done in a very long time.
Even though my little Bo is being a big-ole-pain right now I really do love the little guy and I'm so glad that I got him...he really has helped me a lot the last several months.
Ok...an entire....long post all about Bo! Stay tuned for the next Bo update and if any of you have any great training ideas, especially those of you who have Boston Terrier's I'd sure love to hear them.
