wow, christmas break drained every ounce of
motivation and productivity out of me.
except the motivation to be a couch potato.
at this, i excelled.
once we got back to the house after our travels,
i had big plans. i was going to be lazy for a couple of days,
and then i was going to be super-productive.
i had a list: take down the christmas decorations, clean out kids' closets,
organize kids' rooms, clean the house, shop for some new clothes,
get a rug for the living room, convince sam to let me chalkboard paint something,
run every day to get prepared for my 1/2 marathon.... and so on.
i did one of those things.
the christmas decorations have been put away.
except for the stocking on carlie's bedroom door.
i missed it somehow, and it'll probably be there until next christmas.
so, i don't know if it really even counts.
i attempted twice to find a rug,
but finally gave up and decided it could wait until later.
mainly because the kids were super stressed about a rug invading their
lego, train, car, and craft space. they just don't see the need for it.
i didn't get any new clothes except a sweatshirt that i bought at sam's club on
new year's day when i finally came out of my hole to buy groceries.
i then proceeded to wear said sweatshirt everyday until i had to come to work on
the 7th of january, at which point i tried to no avail to make it into work-appropriate attire.
there were a couple of days when i braved the outside world,
because being trapped inside with the kids was just too much.
it would have helped if it hadn't rained everyday...
we went to see frozen again one afternoon.
seriously, that movie is the best.
i stopped at a park before going into the theater so the kids good run out
some of their energy before the candy, cokes, and popcorn.
our second outing was to
frog legs.
we were there 3 hours.
i'm not even exaggerating.
between those times, i rotated between playing referee, reading, and watching netflix.
i wish i was one of those moms that could come up with fun activities to do at the house,
and who could see free time as an adventure and not a pain,
but i'm not. it's one of the things i've come to terms with.
i need a schedule; i need my job to be productive.
the rest of my life runs more smoothly when i have a set place to be and a schedule to maintain.
and whether it's by nurture or nature, my kids are the same way.
none of us handled being at home with nothing to do very well at all.
i'm hoping i remember this next year so i can go ahead and set up a schedule for us
during our 2 week break.
and, because i know you're dying to know what books i read and what show
i'm currently obsessed with, i'm going to tell you. :)
seriously though, i do this for myself. i can't tell you how many times i've
referenced my blog to remember what books i've read and if i liked them.
i'm a dork, remember?
1.
the secrets of the immortal nicholas flamel
this is one of those series that was on either my amazon or
online library's recommendation page based on other books i've read.
i texted bess, cause that's how i roll, and she thought she'd read at least part of it and liked it.
that was good enough for me.
there were a few slow parts, but i loved the adventure, magic, and combination
of mythical and real people used in a fictional way.
it's worth the read if you like those types of books, which i do.
2.
callahan garrity series
these books are written by mary kay andrews under her real name, kathy hogan trocheck.
they remind me a lot of
sue grafton's books but with mka's southern flair.
i've read them all and am disappointed there aren't any more, nor does it look like there will be.
one of the librarians and i actually had a conversation about it.
she just quit writing them when she started writing under the pen name mka.
fun reads if you like mystery, mka, or sue grafton.
3.
alias
back when i lived with laurel, we watched alias.
that was when it was first showing on tv.
now it's made its way to netflix. i made the mistake of watching it one day and got hooked.
i'd forgotten just how good it is.
and, it's been long enough since i first watched it that i've forgotten some things,
so every once and awhile it's like it's new again.
then, i figured out that the guy who created this show also created lost.
j.j. abrams knows how to make a good tv show.
thankfully, we are back to our regular schedules,
and we are loving it.
i'm looking forward to what 2014 holds for us!
