Tag set tutorial for Scraps of Elegance

Happy monday girls....I had a creative burst this past weekend and I was so
happy to just be able to unwind and spend some time getting crafty :)
The February kit called 'Watercolor Wishes' continues to inspire me,
this time I created a set of shabby tags and took some photos along the way.

'Always, Discover'

I started with the cardboard pieces from the 49 & Market flower packs, and then cut out some of the 49 & Market papers to glue on the top. I added some of the Lindy's Magical Shaker powder mixed with water, a few pieces of 2 Crafty Chipboard, some white lace, and some 49 & Market flowers from the floral add on.

Here is the February kit:

I prepared a short tutorial on my process for you. I did these tags at night, so the light's not
great, and my table is soooo messy (I'll just confess right now my craft table is a little chaotic at times), but I just thought I'd share the simple steps to create some shabby tags like these.

1. I cut the paper packaging from the flowers that were in the floral add on and then cut out some paper from the kit to match. I also fussy cut some birds and flowers from the 49 & Market kit papers.

2. I glued the papers down and cut off the corners. I also punched a hole in each tag for the ribbons.
Then I covered both tags in a coat of clear gesso, and after that dried I applied some heavy white gesso a bit messily. I like to apply the gesso unevenly and then heat it with my heat gun on high; the gesso bubbles and cracks and I think it makes some interesting patterns for later on when you apply the inks or watercolors.

3. The next step is to add some color to your background. I used the pretty Lindy's Magical Shaker that came in the kit called 'Oom Pah Pah Pink'. I just mixed it wth a little water. Then I added some stamping on top.

4. Now it's time to add your embellishments. I glued down some pieces of white lace that I had cut up, and then layered on the papers I had fussy cut, some chipboards that I painted white, and some flowers.

5. I went back in with some watercolors to add some more colors to tie it all together. Then I brushed everything lightly with some gesso to give the tags a really shabby look. Once it was all dry, I tied some twine on each tag, and we're done!

Here are some details:

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and I hope it inspires you to create something
shabby too!

Hugs, Lisa xo
