My latest project

So on our trip to Oregon, I decided to bring a sewing project with me. The idea came from a Joann mailer, and when I first saw it, I knew I wanted to attempt it myself! It is a small table runner made out of fabric "yo-yo's."

Here is an image of the "inspiration." I was really excited to try it out myself!
I decided to go with Blues & Reds, since we have touches of blue & burgandy throughout our house... plus, it was almost the 4th of July when I picked out the fabrics, & I must have been feeling patriotic.
The goal was to sew about 50 yo-yo's. In the bottom left corner of this page you can kind of see what some un-sewn yo-yo's started out like. They were very easy to make! At first it took about 10 minutes to make each one... but after enough practice, I was finishing each one in half that time.

Half of the fun was arranging the different colors and sizes of circles together in a way that seemed to fit the best before stitching them all together.

And here is the finished project back at home on our table!

I remember my mom had made an entire king-size bedspread out of yo-yo's when I was a child. I don't know how she did it! Must've taken her months!! I'm so thankful I was able to finish this project in only one week (and I was sewing at every spare moment of the day & night!) :)

Oregon!

We just returned from a fabulous vacation in Florence, Oregon. It was a relaxing trip and lots of fun! Here are a selection of photos of our trip, for your enjoyment!

On our way up we stopped to visit our good friends the Knights, and on our trip back home, we visited with our good friends the Wisners. Both times Sammy had a blast playing with his little buddies, Evan & Tyler. We can't wait to see them at WOFOFF in another month! Here's a photo of Sammy & Evan riding in this fun little train.
Since it was in the 90's, we let the boys run around the mist fountain that evening to cool down a bit!
Here's Sam & his monkey on watching a movie on the long drive up to Oregon. It took 2 days to drive up there, and each leg was between 8-9 hours! We were so thankful for the little DVD player to help occupy Sam during the long drive!
Up in Oregon at last! Why not start off the trip with a quick little race in great-grandpa's scooter?
Here's Sam enjoying himself at the lake. We visited Woahink lake most days, had fun water skiing, jet skiing, tubing, and playing in the water.
Samuel loved finding "sallys" in the lake. We caught them and put them in a bucket so Sammy could look at them longer. He kept trying to throw rocks in the bucket, to make the sallys environment seem more like a lake, but ended up nearly hitting the poor guy every time!
Samuel also loved riding the jet ski! Andrew took him all around and Sammy had a blast steering what he called the "little yellow boat."
We also jumped off the bridge, as we do every year! It doesn't look that high, but when you're standing up there it always seems more scary!
Since we arrive in Oregon on the 4th of July, we had to get some fireworks to celebrate. Here Sammy is holding his very first sparkler!
Still a little to small for this bike, but he's really excited to use it in a couple years!
Now this size is more like it. Great-Grampy found this one at a local garage sale! Lots of fun!
Andrew giving Sam his first golf lesson.
Uh-oh! Look where it landed... hehe.
Sammy loved driving the golf cart! He insisted on steering himself, and we were making zig-zags all along the fairway.
We ended our vacation with a trip to the Siuslaw sporting clay shooting range, with our Uncle Drake & Aunt Jeanne. This was soooo much fun!
For the record, the scores went something like this:
Drake - 20
Andrew - 19
Jessica - 14
Adam - 13
Bob - 10
Thats it for now! Thanks for viewing everyone! :)
