Last Saturday, May 30, was our halau's 9th annual ho'ike.
We made beautiful new costumes & learned many new songs for our big performance. I even had enough scrap material leftover from my new pa'u skirt to make Kendall her own matching one! See below, on the left. Also, just because, I threw in a photo of Kendall at our ho'ike last year in October. See how my little keiki has grown!
The dance below is Umia. We had danced this one in the past, but revised it for this year. You can see how we danced mirroring each other. It was very hard to re-learn some of the motions backwards, but the effect was amazing!
E Au'e - this was performed with three classes of dancers - one dancing with hand motions, our class with one long stick, and another with the two short sticks.
My alaka'i girls
This was my favorite number - Tahiti Love Song! Very fun for the audience, and I could not get over how good all of the colors looked together!
Lastly, I found the time to upload a video! Sorry if the quality is poor - had to in order to upload it. Here is the last number of the ho'ike - our tahitian otea. :) Enjoy!
Aloha!
