First Day of School

Yesterday was Samuel's first day of the school year!  He was very excited about his new classroom and his new teachers.  This year we took a photo by the chalkboard to capture some of his current 'favorites' now that he is 5.  :)  If we keep this up each year, it will be fun to see how things change or stay the same as the years go by.
Ready to go, complete with his new school hat & shoes!
This is by far one of the coolest classrooms we've seen.  Its actually 2 adjoining classrooms, and has so many fun activity and learning centers.  His class of about 27 children are split into three groups, each with their own designated teacher.  After large group time, the smaller groups of kids move around from station to station each time the "bell rings" in order to get more individualized attention from their teacher.  (Micah just adored this classroom too by the way... so many fun things to check out!)
Samuel was immediately attracted to this bin full of "Moon Sand."  You can see in the background that later this also becomes the snack table, where the children are responsible for portioning their own snack, pouring their drinks, and serving themselves!
We are so proud of our little boy!  Samuel we love you so much!  Happy first day of school sweetheart!
 A well-deserved after-school treat!  :)  Popsicles on a warm August afternoon.  :)
Bet you can't tell that Micah LOVES popsicles!!!  When I asked the boys, "Who wants a popsicle?"  Micah was the first one to shout, "ME!"

Our 5 year old!

On Monday the 19th our precious Samuel turned FIVE years old!

Sometimes when I look at his baby photos, I can see this 5-year-old "grown up" face in it.  And then I think about how fast these five years have gone by!  Or, I'll see a home video we took when he was 2 years old, and watch in amazement how some of those expressions and actions he made back then are identical to some of his now... even years later!!  From day 1, Samuel has been the sweetest little boy I know.  He still is SUPER sweet, but also kind and loving.  He has so much energy (like all 5-year-old boys do), but still seems to overflow with this childlike, fun-filled innocence that I love and find so rare.

On Saturday the 17th, we had a fun birthday celebration for him.  Here are some shots captured throughout the day...

Excited to celebrate his birthday with family & friends!
Why not start the day out with a gift from Grammy & Grampy?
Samuel loves his new scooter - and Micah loves his new hand-me-down!
We had a party for him at Pump-It-Up, which is this fun, inflatables/bouncy-house arena.
If you look closely, you can see just how sweaty the little kids got from running around and bouncing non-stop!
Besides bouncing, the kids had fun playing air hockey, duck-duck-goose & limbo.
We are so thankful for fun family and friends!
 Cupcake time!
Samuel picked out chocolate cupcakes and vanilla frosting, with rainbow sprinkles & lego candies to decorate the top.
 Little brother approved.  :)
Here we are with our birthday boy.  What a special boy we have!
Afterwards, we treated Sammy to dinner at his favorite restaurant, "the peanut place" (a.k.a. Five Guys).  Here he opened a few more presents, one of his favorites being this new junior-sized, left-handed set of real golf clubs from Mamoe & Grandad!  Now he can play just like his Daddy!

And I just had to throw this one in because of his expression when opening it...  love that pure joy!
It turned out being a whole weekend of celebration for our little guy.  On his real birthday we had another fun-filled day for him including a couple presents...
...a stop at the doughnut store...
...a morning at the beach with all his cousins...
...and then to finish it off, we took him to a fun family dinner at Chuck-E-Cheese (his choice!).  :)  Happy Birthday sweet Samuel!  You are so precious to us!  We love you with all our hearts!

Baby Photoshoot

Yesterday morning we dropped the boys off with my sister and were off to our ultrasound appointment.  Even though I had to drink about a 1/2 gallon of water beforehand, I still enjoyed every moment of it.

I had picked out a little pink card, with a blue envelope, and wrote in it quickly before our appointment, "God has blessed you with a sweet, little baby..." and we handed it over to the ultrasound tech for her to write out the rest of the card for us and seal it up.  When we first found out we were pregnant, we were toying with the idea of not finding out ahead of time whether this baby is a boy or girl.  Now, we are pretty sure we'll find out ahead of time, but we're just waiting for the right time.  :)

For now, we just loved seeing our little one in action.  Here are some of our favorite pictures from baby's little photoshoot!

Sweet baby.  The ultrasound tech used measurements of baby's head, spine, torso & legs to determine our baby weighs about 9 ounces (50% percentile).  At the time of the appointment, our baby's heartbeat was nice and strong at 141 bpm.  She also said that I'm measuring right on track with my due date... maybe just one day off or so.

Looks like baby has his/her hand up to its mouth here!

Baby's precious footprint  :)

Our little one might be a gymnast!  Foot/leg is up by baby's head!

In other baby news, last night Andrew got to feel the baby move for the first time!  I wasn't sure if the movements I'm feeling were only internal, or if they could be felt with his hand on my tummy.  Sure enough, he felt every kick and movement that I did!  :)   So fun!  Isn't God so good?

Summer Vacation

A few weeks ago we left for a 2000 mile round-trip drive up to Florence, Oregon where Andrew's family has been vacationing for well over 30 years.  With 2 little busy boys sitting in the back, we tried to make the trip as fun as possible.  So we planned ahead to stop at various tourist spots and friends houses along the way to make the drive more fun.  We also bought little treasures and treats from the 99-cent store or from Walmart to give to our boys as surprises during the long days in the car.  Boy, did that work out great!

First off, we heard about this amazing little rest stop called Bravo Farms off the 99.  We highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stop and stretch their legs while driving through California.  This place had a bbq restaurant, gift shop, cheese factory, a 6 or 7 story mini tree house, mini golf, a shooting range, antiques, an ice cream shop, petting zoo and more.  Love this place!

Day 2 of the road trip we stopped at this fun little park in Mount Shasta city.  We let the boys play for a while and we also filled up all our empty water bottles with some of the cold, fresh spring water that flows from Mt. Shasta and comes out through the side of a mountain - love that we discovered this place!  This place also happens to be the headwaters for the whole Sacramento river!

Once we made it to Oregon, we enjoyed playing at Woahink lake on every nice day.

There were just too many pictures for one lake collage, so here are three.  :)

Samuel loved playing with his 2nd cousins Josh & baby Johanna.

There were a couple of non-lake days where we went golfing (Samuel had a blast golfing!  He called me mid-round on the first day and was soooo excited to tell he that he hit the golf ball a "mile" away!)  We also went shooting sporting clays this year with our Uncle Drake & cousin Jeff.  Its always so much fun and each year we get better and better.  This year Andrew was the winner of all 5 shooters, with a score of 37/50!

One morning we took the boys for their first time to the sand dunes.  Samuel had the most fun, running, jumping, climbing and playing in the sand.

We also visited Heceta Head Lighthouse.  Such a beautiful place with breathtaking views!  I think I remember the tour guide telling us this was the most photographed lighthouse on the West Coast.

By far, Samuel's favorite part about our Oregon vacation was riding Great Grampa's scooters.  When we first arrived in Oregon, like, right when we pulled into the driveway, this was the very first thing that he wanted to do.  :)  "Big Red" was his favorite because it has the option to go "turbo" speed.  We would race around the block at least 2 times each day on our trip.

Below is also a sweet photo of Gigi & Great Gramps with their 4 Great-Grandchildren.  :)

On our way home we visited more fun places...  like Shasta Dam & Lake Shasta, a super fun children's splash park in Redding with a huge volcano in the middle, our dear friends the Wisners, and a stop in SLO where we ate at Firestones & Bali's with our friends the Grindys.  :)
What a fun family trip!  Of course we are glad to be back home & sleeping in our own beds again.  :)  Hope you all are having a great summer too!

Baby Bump

Our little baby is slowly making his or her presence known to the world.  Its been fun to see how I'm starting to show more and more now that I'm in the second trimester...  I realized that I hadn't posted any baby bump pictures so far this pregnancy, so I thought you'd want to see for yourself!

13 weeks

14 weeks

16 weeks

and now at 18 weeks...

Oh, and I'm pretty sure that I've started to feel the baby move a bit.  For about a couple weeks now I've been wondering if those tiny movements were the baby or not, but now I'm convinced!  :)

Tuesday is our next appointment for an ultrasound - can't wait to see baby in action!  We'll keep you posted and share those baby pictures soon!
