Tax season is over and we are so excited! Andrew had the best idea - to surprise the kids with a little camping trip - in a motorhome!!!
Now, just to let you know, the kids have never traveled or camped in an RV before. But, this was something that I'm sure was on Samuel's bucket list! He's been asking to "borrow" a motorhome for years. :) Probably since he was 2 or 3? So what a delight it was for us to give him this surprise!
I have fun memories of my own taking a motorhome trip with my family when I was a little girl. I remember my little sister was still in diapers, so I was probably 5 or 6? I remember sleeping in the top above the driver's seat next to my brother, and playing with stickers up there. I also remember fishing & catching a rainbow trout! :) I wonder what Samuel will remember from this little trip when he grows up?
We booked a site at a nearby campground in Valley Center. The drive was just about 30-40 minutes away - perfect!
The campgrounds had some animals to check out - horses, goats, turtles, ducks and a cow, plus there was a little fishing pond.
We had fun playing frisbee, swinging, playing catch, taking a dip in the icy swimming pool, hiking, reading, riding bikes, cooking hot dogs & s'mores on the campfire, and just hanging out together as a family. We also visited the nearby Bates Nut Farm (just a few minutes away) and enjoyed all the sights there.
The boys couldn't get enough of the cool little bed above the driver's cab. They each had their own space complete with their sleeping bags, pillows, flashlights, toys & books.
This one is for Uncle Ben: "DONUT!"
Our little camper. He couldn't get enough of the motorhome. He was so excited about it. He was constantly going in and out of it - all weekend. He opened and closed the windows, curtains and vents and such about 50 times all weekend. :)
So glad to be together as a family for a whole weekend!
Lastly, I couldn't help but get a picture of this. Kinda reminded me of that scene from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, ha!
