9th Day of CNY - 初九 (Part II)

Quote:

9th Day of CNY - 初九

Today feels more Chinese New Year than the first day, at this hour (1:20am) I can still hear fireworks blasting out there like a carnival is going on right now. Today marks an important day for the Hokkien people (me included) as it is the biggest day for us, not to mention that the place I stay is full of Hokkien people.

The legend goes that once upon a time, the Hokkien people are being pursued by enemies on the 9th Day of CNY. So as they flee, they prayed to the almighty god (Jade Emperor in this case) for help. God answered their prayers, and they came upon a large sugar cane field. So they went into hiding inside the field. With that, they managed to escape from the enemies. That is why Hokkien people celebrate the 9th day of CNY grander than any other day, and if you notice, many of them have sugar canes as part of the offerings.

The above story is based on hearsay, so correct me if I'm wrong. Now I'm off to sleep... good night all :D

新年快乐

一转眼,又到了新的一年了。今年是丁亥年,也就是我们俗称的猪年。

在此,非常俗套的向大家祝贺一句“新年快乐,身体安康”。

CNY mood as suggested by Winn Winn :P

但愿人长久

There's 2 versions of the song, both having the same lyrics which is actually a poem by 苏轼. One was sang by Teresa Teng, Faye Wong, and Jacky Cheung in his live album. The other is a new one in Jacky Cheung's latest album.

First one goes like this:

Second one goes like this:

I like both of them (I think it's probably because I like the poem) :P

PS: Testing out Lifelogger.com as recommended by Winn Winn

One, Two, Cha Cha Cha...

Two... Three... Four and One...

Hahaha... Today I started my first dance lesson. Teacher taught us 3 chacha moves. Although seemed quite simple, need to coordinate it properly. And I've been sweating although it seems like not much of an exercise.

Now feel a bit sore on my waist... must be a sign of not enough exercise :P

I Hate Traffic Jams

Yup... the title says it all. Changing to a new work place also means that I have to travel through some much more jammed up areas as compared to before. I'm still in the process of evaluating which is the best route to go to work, experimenting and calculating all the possible routes. So far on the 3rd day (today) I'm seeing some progress already :P

Additionally, these few days it seems as if the horrid haze is trying to make a comeback... I can literally smell the smoke when I woke up in the morning. I hope it won't turn out too bad. *fingers crossed*

La Vie En Rose

Nope, I'm not referring to the lingerie brand, but rather the song itself.

Quoting from Wikipedia:

"La vie en rose" (French for "life through rose-coloured glasses", literally, "life in pink"), was the signature song of French singer, Édith Piaf.

Piaf first popularized the song in 1946. The lyrics were written by Piaf and the melody of the song by "Louiguy" (Louis Gugliemi). Initially, Piaf's peers and her songwriting team did not think the song would be successful, but it became a favorite with audiences. An English version of the lyrics was written later by Mack David.
I only realized that the name of this song is also referred to as a famous lingerie brand in Canada after the super smooth Uncle Lee mentioned it in one of his blog entries.

First Day at Work

Since there's a last day at work, there's definitely a first day at new job, unless I kena a million dollar lottery lar :P

So yesterday (Friday) I started my new job. Arrived at office at about 8-ish, but can't go in because I don't have the access card yet. So happens that the admin colleague was on leave so I have to wait for my boss to come in and pass me the temp access card and stuffs.

So after a while, my boss came and I followed him into the office. Then he passed me the necessary stuff. Lunch time, my colleague brought me to this chicken rice place that has pretty yummy char siew. I was told the siew yuk needs to be booked as it is very popular.

In the afternoon, followed my colleagues to a customer site to do some presentation. Of course, I don't have much idea on the product, so I just sit aside and listen to my seniors :P

Night time, I have a dinner appointment with some group of friends (about 30-40 of them). One of them brought a 9.5L Haagen Dazs bucket of...

for dessert. I had 3 scoops!!! Yummy :P

Did You Know That (IT)...

If you're having some problems with your internet connection lately, you could try the following:

Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt). Then type "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotes. If it is executed correctly, it should return you something like the following image:

You could also try resetting your modem/router if the above doesn't work. But make sure you know how to reconfigure your modem/router info before doing that. :)

Yawn...

Just finished watching the super "cheong hei" anime - Yu Yu Hakusho... 112 episodes of 30 mins each... *sweats*. It's a story about this young guy, on a twist of fate, was assigned with an impossible task to save mankind from demons etc. Anyone wanted a copy? It's 25GB in total... *sweats more*

What next? Oh ya my Death Note manga collection. It'd be a good read on a lazy holiday like today.

Note: Today is Federal Territory Day for KL and Thaipusam for some states, so some places get a holiday today. So happy holidays to all :)
