Three local restaurants expanding in the Baltimore region.

&Pizza opening first Baltimore location.
Here are 3 new restaurants coming to the Baltimore region. Most of the information below has come from their press releases.  Indulge and go to their websites or social media pages to learn more.

Basta Pasta, a full service Italian and seafood restaurant/bar has signed a lease with St. John Properties, Inc for a space at Liberty Exchange, at the intersection of Maryland Routes 32 and 25 in Eldersburg. This will be the 3rd Basta Pasta and the first for Carroll County, the other two one in Fallston and one in Timonium

“The Eldersburg trade area continues to be under-served by restaurants, and Basta Pasta is introducing an extremely popular concept that has been well-received in Baltimore and Harford Counties,” explained Bill Holzman, Vice President of Retail Leasing for St. John Properties. “We envision Basta Pasta appealing to both families and businesses in the local trade area that are looking for a quality dining environment and experience.”

Asian restaurant Red Goji is now open in Baltimore county

The restaurant is named after the bright orange-red berry from a shrub in China that has a sweet tart taste. Not only is the goji berry the namesake of this restaurant you will find the slightly sweet tart berry in one of the house specialties, Red Goji chicken --- stir fried chicken with goji berries, mushrooms and scallions in a sweet oyster sauce.  The menu boasts a whole Peking duck, dinner for two with the appropriate scallions, hoisin sauce and pancakes.

If I hadn’t been going to Goldberg’s Bagels in Club Center I wouldn’t have even known there was a new Asian restaurant. The shopping center sits recessed off Reisterstown Road in the heart of Pikesville’s commercial district.  A number of you might remember it as Olive & Sesame.  Open now for a couple months, Red Goji is Asian – offering a selection of Japanese, Chinese and Thai dishes.

For those who love sushi, nigiri and/or sashimi, Red Goji can accommodate you ala carte or choose the lunch or dinner choices.

Pad Thai, lettuce wraps and Tom Yum soup give a nod to the Thai influences that are served up at Red Goji.

Red Goji Restaurant – Club Center – 1500 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD  21208 443 450-5993 Closed on Mondays. Eat in or carry out.  There is no website and no social media. There is plenty of free parking available.

Shiso Tavern: Canton Square's Asian fusion dining

Shiso is an herb, predominately used in Japanese cuisine but also used in other Asian cultures like Vietnamese and Chinese. The name seems apropos as the name of the Canton Square restaurant Shiso Tavern that serves sushi, ramen, pad thai and wok specials like orange chicken and beef broccoli. Shiso Tavern is located in the former Te Amo space with the bar greeting you when you first enter. The upstairs dining room is subtle in décor with a kimono on one wall and crossed samurai swords on the other; one would think they used feng shui to aid the minimalist surroundings.

No sushi at Ra Sushi

It is that time of year when Ra Sushi introduces their new menu and beverage items and this year there were no new sushi items but they have enhanced their appetizers, entrees and cocktail lines.

Ra, as close friends like to call it, is always busy, lively and pumping with energy. It is hard to find a seat in the bar at any happy hour.

No more hard hats – Kona Grill opens Tuesday, October 5th

On September 8th you might have read my Hard Hat Lunch post on the under construction Kona Grill located at 1 E. Pratt Street. Just shy of 30 days and baby, they have come a long way. After seeing where they were on that day and being at the grand opening over the weekend, I am truly amazed.

This one of many Kona Grills to open nationwide and you can tell they know what they are doing. They spared no expense for the select group of guests invited to the grand opening celebration

Sushi Poppers™ for sushi eaters on the go

In my chronological order of awareness: push up ice cream rockets, push up bras, and now push up sushi in a tube – isn’t life great. Just like the ice cream rockets with a stick at the bottom you push the sushi up and “pop them in your mouth.”
