Eric and I are back together ...

and his wife doesn't even mind. She even comes with us and does cardio. Eric and I worked out together for about 3 years and then he quit, got married and moved on.

After I lost all this weight (with absolutely no exercise at all) I sent him a picture of myself and said, "look what happened to me once I quit working out with you." He knows me well enough to know that I was just kidding. Especially since I asked him to start working with me again.
So we are back together and this time, I'm eating healthy and really taking care of my body. I think Eric is excited cause on Friday he had me run 1 mile at an 8 min/mile pace and I almost puked. And this was  the day after I did legs and I could barely walk. In desperation I exclaimed, "just cause I lost a lot of weight does not mean I'm in shape!" He laughed and then yelled at me to get back on the treadmill. I need this guy cause I not only would I not push myself that hard, I probably wouldn't even get out of bed.

I did a search on my blog for "trainer" and came up with these great posts:

A Return to the gym ... why do you exercise?

As I walked into the gym today after work, the worker taking my key chain bar code said, "it feels like you haven't been here for awhile."

I replied, "that is cause I haven't."  I was kind of bugged for a second and then I thought that it was actually nice that they noticed I'd been gone.

Well I'm back, at least for today. I've been thinking about why I exercise. There are many reasons that people exercise ...
  • compete in a race
  • reach a goal
  • lose weight
  • be healthy
  • be strong
  • look good/attractive
  • feel good physically
  • feel good mentally and emotionally (you know those endorphins and stuff), like on this little clip I put up on YouTube awhile ago

I particularly like this reason given by Elder Christofferson from conference last week. I know, that is two posts in a row about general conference. What can I say, it was a really good conference.

As our body is the instrument of our spirit, it is vital that we care for it as best we can. We should consecrate its powers to serve and further the work of Christ. Said Paul, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God” (Romans 12:1)

Philadelphia - last day (Rocky stairs)

This is a little late. I've been home from Philadelphia for a few weeks now. But anyway, the last day I went with this lady on a little adventure.

Meet Rieta - my boss' wife.

We walked a good two miles to get to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and we didn't even go in.

We saw things things on our way - the love statue, the thinker and some lichen.

We both ran up the stairs of the museum like that boxer guy.

Yup - that guy.

I have started to train like Rocky for the triathlon. I've stopped now - it's got a little too "million dollar babyish." Enjoy this video.

By the way, Friday after work I completed my very own triathlon. Read about it here on my Intuitive Eating blog.

I wanted to document a few more things about that trip. First the iphone map application was so awesome to use in a big city especially when you have no car. It uses GPS to guide you as you walk - loved it.

The last keynote speaker was great.

His name is Malcolm Gladwell and he talked about how hard work and determination is more important than raw talent. It was truly inspirational.
