Dear N,
When the piece before a member of a symphony says “Tacit”, that instrument is silent. Though the sound of glorious music rises and falls all around, the silence is observed. It is not a longing silence, no, not a bursting silence, or awkward silence. This silence is an enthralled silence that relishes and receives the sights and sounds that encompass it.
We have spoken of the goodness of silence. How we observe silence for a season, like the brass during the clarinet soliloquy. Silence deepens our hearts, deepens our thoughts, deepens our presence to one another and all the possibilities life brings us.
Love can bring silence. Silence affirms and confirms, transforms and strengthens, yields and seeds. For silence has the glorious beauty of quiet wind sweeping over ripened field, the moment just before the drum roll, the knowing in the gaze of lovers. Tacitness gives eyes the space needed to lock with one another, in wonder, in awe of this symphony around us. My heart beats with yours in the silence.
Silence resonates.
