Butterflies and Spring

Good morning!  It's spring, but not so you would notice.  One day it's cool here, the next day in the 80's.  I think summer is going to be here before we know it.  I'm going to enjoy the cool weather as long as we have it.

For my card today, I wanted to use one of the backgrounds I had made with the Distress Oxide inks (see them here). I also have a butterfly die that I absolutely love.

Here is the card I made.

I apologize for the bad photo.  I can never seem to get the lighting right.    I trimmed the background paper, made with Distress Oxide inks, down. I die cut the butterfly and set aside (I can use this on another project).  I die cut another butterfly out of yellow cardstock to contrast with the background.  I put some black mulberry paper that has metallic flecks in it behind the die cut background.  Then I covered the die cut yellow butterfly in glitter and adhered it to the middle section of the die cut space. The wings curl up, showing the black mulberry paper under them. This went on a brown textured piece of cardstock and was ultimately layered onto a white background card.

Here is a close up of the yellow butterfly showing the glitter.  You can see the color of the background better, too.

Thanks for stopping by.

Inky hugs,

Happy Spring

I love Spring. It's one of my favorite seasons. It's a time of new beginnings, of rebirth, a time when flowers poke their noses through the frozen earth and declare their intentions, when baby birds chirp out their delight in being born. There is nothing like being able to open your windows and let the fresh air into your house after spending a winter cooped up.

I remember when I was little and we lived in Ohio, my Mom would throw open the windows and the house would smell so fresh. She would do her spring cleaning, and she always had a clothesline that she hung the curtains and sheets on, and there was/is nothing like the smell of clean sheets that have been dried on a clothesline in the cool spring air.

When you are a kid in the north, winter is fun because you get to ride on your sled in the snow, but spring means you can get your bicycle out and play with your friends outside after school. Times were simpler then. We didn't have video games or computers, so we actually played outside after school and during the summer. I think we were healthier, and I know we developed friendships and interacted with each other in ways that today's children don't. We weren't latchkey kids, our mothers didn't work outside the home. They didn't have to.

Yeah, I know, we don't have snow and ice in Florida in the winter, but it's still the same. You know that in a few weeks the weather will be hot and will last that way for many months, and so you enjoy the last of the cooler weather.

Oh, gee, I didn't mean to get on a soapbox...

Let me just say, I hope you have a happy spring....

Inchies

I love spring! It's one of my favorite times of the year. It's warm, but there is a breeze to keep it from being so hot. I haven't turned my air conditioner on yet, and dread the time that I have to do that, so I'm just enjoying the weather.

I have discovered a new papercraft...Inchies. The jury is still out on whether I like to do them or not but I did make 20 last night just to see how it went. They are SMALL!!! There is hardly any room at all to work with. The worst part was trying to cut out teensy images.

If you'd like to see what I'm talking about before I get mine posted, just do a google search and you will find lots of sites.

That's all for now...talk to you again soon.
