Enhancements

  • External Banner Format Update
    • Reformatted the external CCC banner area to reduce spacing so that when more than two messages are posted, all messages display clearly.
  • Fix for “Verify” Button Behavior
    • Resolved an issue where previous messages continued to display when users changed a document number without clicking the Verify button. This ensures accurate and up-to-date messaging for external users.

Enhancements

  • Security Vulnerabilities Remediation
    • Upgrade Spring-boot to fix the identified vulnerabilities from security scans.
  • Multifactor Authentication (MFA) Requirement
    • As of May 1, you can no longer use text messages (SMS) or phone calls to verify your identity when you log into your USPTO.gov account.
    • If you missed the deadline, you can still use email to verify your account. Information on other options, including mobile authenticators, are available on our webpage.
    • For assistance or questions, please call the USPTO Contact Center (UCC) at 800-786-9199 (toll free) or 571-272-1000 (local). You can email UCC at usptoinfo@uspto.gov.
  • This release will reduce potential weaknesses in the system and application across Certified Copy Center.

New Features

  • Upcoming Multifactor Authentication (MFA) Requirement
    • Effective May 1, 2025, USPTO will implement stronger multifactor authentication methods to enhance the security of your USPTO.gov account.
    • If you currently use text messages (SMS) or voice calls to verify your account, you must switch to a more secure method by April 30, 2025.
    • Email-based authentication will still be supported.
    • Visit the multifactor authentication options webpage for more information. Once you select an option, be sure to download, install, and configure your chosen method on your device in advance.
  • Users must update their MFA method before April 30, 2025, to avoid login issues starting May 1.

    • Description: Resolved an issue where the 1984 informational message was incorrectly displayed for unpublished patents on the CCC External platform.
  2. Defect: Unable to Add Duplicate Item for Unpublished Documents
    • Description: Fixed a defect that prevented users from adding a duplicate item for unpublished documents, ensuring smoother document management.

  • Display Username for Packing Slip Printing in Order History Tracking
    • Feature Description: Implemented the functionality to display the username for packing slip printing in the order history tracking page.
    • Impact: Users can now see the username associated with each order when printing packing slips, improving visibility and accountability within order management.
  • Update Patent Center URL on Storefront and Customer Service Pages
    • Issue: Public PAIR system was decommissioned, and while initial redirects to the Patent Center were in place, the redirects stopped working.
    • Resolution: Updated the Patent Center URL on both the Storefront and Customer Service pages, ensuring users are properly directed to the Patent Center.
    • Impact: This update restores the correct URL routing for all users accessing the Patent Center from affected areas.
  • CCC OIDC Upgrade (Phase 1)
    • Description: Successfully completed and deployed Phase 1 of the Certified Copy Center (CCC) external and internal OIDC upgrades.
    • Components:
      • External OIDC Upgrade:
        • Upgraded user authentication token exchange mechanisms.
        • Enhanced all attachment retrieval processes through web services.
      • Internal and Fulfillment S2S OIDC Upgrade:
        • Improved token exchange processes for Service-to-Service (S2S) implementations.
    • Impact: These upgrades enhance security by improving the authentication processes for both external users and internal systems, aligning with modern identity management protocols.
