Miss Pepper's cupcake party

When I was a little girl, at every school fete I would have a stall called Katie's Cupcake Kitchen. My Mum and my Grandmother would spend the weeks before baking and freezing cupcakes and then on the day we would lay them all out and my customers would pay for the pleasure of painting them with colourful icing and sprinkling lollies and 100's and 1000's on top. It became a bit of a family tradition.

These days our family cupcake tradition has become all about the sixth birthday party.

Last Saturday Miss Pepper had her eight besties over to celebrate with her.

We decorated cupcake bags, played pin the candle on the cupcake and all other manner of cupcake themed games.

And of course we decorated cupcakes.

I used Cathie's recipe and made about six batches.

The littlies had a ball. They sang and danced and spun and bounced. Miss Pepper kept telling me it was the best party ever!

We followed most of top 10 rules from last year and marvelled that this was our 28th kiddie party.

Our family's tradition for age seven is having your ears pierced. I'm a little glad that's a whole year away.

I do love to celebrate my kids and I love a kid's party but I'm not sure about this growing up business, how on earth is my baby six already?? It's crazy.

I hope you are having a sweet day wherever you are?

And tell me, do you have any special family birthday traditions?
A kind of cake, a funny song, a theme, a way?

Bye!

xx

Not so random.

I am thrilled to announce that the lovely Michelle has won my cushion cover auction. I couldn't think of many better homes for a granny cushion to go to. Not only is Michelle a fabulous crocheter herself, she also sent me a photo of her very granny lounge room and I think this cushion will fit right in.

After a few attempts at random colour selection that did not work at all, after leaving the whole package of wool and crochet hooks at the beach and having to wait for it to be posted back to me, I am finally on the home stretch.

Michelle, hopefully I will be posting this big fat granny off to you before the week is done.

Thanks to everyone who participated in my auction and to those who cheered it along from the comments section. You guys are so ace!

And just in case you thought it was all lazing about with my feet up and hook in hand at our place. ITS NOT! After playing buses, vets, doggies, babies and squeezing in some laundry and cooking, I have set up a bit of cupcake decorating so I can have a few minutes off to myself.

Now if only they'd stop describing each cake to me in minute detail and asking me if I like it....

Have fun out there. X

ps. Have you ever tried completely random colour selection for anything? Did it work for you? Mine was awful. I think maybe I'm too much of a crafty control freak.

No more school & a bit of baking.

The teachers' thank-you presents were finally finished late last night and then gifted this morning. One each for Indi and Jazzy's teachers and one for the music, art and Italian teachers.

I've got a few more to make but I work better under pressure, so I'll be making them at the last possible minute.

I love how these little stacks look.

I hope they understand the whole hand made wash cloth thing. Recently I was knitting one at a market and more than one person looked at me strangely when I told them what it was.

I had so many sewing plans for the last day before school holidays, but unfortunately Miss Pepper woke up from her nap just after I'd put the washing away, so not a lot got done.

Instead we made cup cakes.

And apricot and peach pies in these gorgeous little dishes we found at the op shop yesterday.

I hope you are having a lovely Thursday.

Steph's Birthday!

Miss Pepper and I took a trip to Ballarat this morning to sing Happy Birthday and eat cupcakes to and with the lovely Steph (aka Mrs Doily) and Kelly at Dear Prudence.

We bought some cottons.

And then we came home and I made a dress instead of hanging the washing on the line.

My place and yours - Through the front door.

Today our front door has a sign on it saying slumber party. Tomorrow Miss Indi, my big girl, is going to turn nine and in honour of this she has six of her besties sleeping the night at our place tonight.

We are not a very neat and tidy household but we've tried to make room for them by shifting things aside and making piles out of the way. This shoe stack is right behind the front door, its probably time to put away the gumboots and bring out the sandals and thongs.

Through the front door at our place today the air is full of baking smells.

Cupcakes are waiting to cool so they can be iced.

Pizza dough is rising for dinner.

And yoyos are cooling before they are stuck together.

I feel calmer about this party than any we've thrown before. At nine, the girls are quite self sufficient with their activities and because they are here for such a long time, I can wrap parcels, get out paints and fimo, cut up fruit and veg and do any other preparation while they are here.

There's 45 minutes until they arrive, time to get into our jammies.

Thanks to Shelley from Femme de Montmartre. for the theme and Pip as always, for being the hostess with the mostest.

Hey and did you hear the exciting news, I am to be next week's theme queen. Yay!! How exciting! Better dust off my tiara and come up with a good one.

I hope you are having a great weekend.

My creative space.

Before I get into the creative stuff I 'd like to say the most enormous, gigantic THANK YOU to everyone who called, texted, commented, emailed, posted, read or blogged about me yesterday on my birthday. I had the best day. One of those days when I knew it was my birthday all day. I feel so lucky right now and its all because of you. THANK YOU!!!!

At the moment I'm screen printing t'shirts for the Daylesford Makers' Market and for the Dear Prudence shop.

Drawing designs and cutting stencils.

Printing.

Next comes ironing and sewing in labels and then delivering.

My creative space is also full of cup cake recipes thanks to Cathie, the best bloggy friend a girl could have. These cup cake papers and pretty sprinkles came in the mail yesterday for my birthday. After I press publish on this post I'm off to scroll down Cathie's list of gorgeous recipes. Thank you so much Cathie you really made my day.

I'm also about to get started on my softie for Mirabel after receiving Leonie's gift of this lovely ivory fabric. Thanks Leonie it was just the kick up the bum I needed, as Indi would say 'you rock!'.

And lastly is this bootie pattern I am struggling to follow. Usually the patterns I follow are written in words or abbreviations but this picture might just get the better of me. After pulling it apart a few times today I think my next plan is to try to write it out in words myself and see if that works.

I hope you have a fantastic and creative Thursday.
Pop on over to Kootoyoo for some more inspiring spaces.

Miss Pepper's party.

Last Saturday after the market we met some family and a few friends at a school playground down the road from Bren's parents' house. Pepper knew it was her birthday because people had been singing and giving her presents all day. I think she got the whole party thing having been a part of Jazzy's party a couple of weeks before.

When a five year old boy complained about the pink cupcakes and refused to eat one he was easily convinced that the sprinkle sticks were footy sticks, even goal posts.

At one stage after watching the big kids have running races around the track Pepper took off and ran the whole circuit to the sounds of all of us chanting "Go Pepper go..."

Into the loving arms of her Great Grandfather.

We packed up, drove the hour and a half home and as I was carrying a very tired two year old into the house and talking about her day she said "no more Happy Birthday Mummy."

One party down and one more to go on Tuesday after school with some little friends from here.

The cup cake party.

Warning: Gratuitous images of sugar overload ahead.

In this case I think the pictures tell it better than any words. Let it just be said though that I have completely graduated from being the mother who makes parties with cut up vegies, pita chips and dips.

The delicious cup cake recipe came from Cathie and if those 13 girls are anything to go by they must be a winner as they ate the cakes as well as the icing!

And just incase you thought it was all over, Pepper turns two in 12 days.

I hope you have a great week and if you haven't already, why don't you go and enter my giveaway.
