Manufacturers do change chipsets without changing model numbers. Sometimes they add (v)ersion or (rev)vision.
As long as a manufacturer or a company does not consider it necessary to supply drivers to the official Linux kernel avoid to buy this products!
Also avoid to purchase "Jack of all trades, master of none" devices (USB3 & BT & 5 & 6 & 7 GHz).

The Linux kernel is not static. A driver that works running e.g. kernel 6.12 may not work anymore running kernel 6.13!

I'm not a developer of drivers!
Developers of drivers don't read this here!
The driver will never ever be fixed if you don't report it either to upstream or to bugzilla!

Warning:
Active monitor mode (hcxdumptool -A) is broken on several mt76 drivers! The driver crashes immediately!
The issue has been reported to upstream, but it is still unfixed!

Please note:
A good antenna is extremely important, because antenna gain is working in both directions.
Stupid increasing TX power doesn’t raise the level of the received signal on the same unit.

 1 configure target AP with a PSK  (only done once)
 2 connect target CLIENT to AP
 3 generate WPA-PSK PMK: wlangenpmk (only done once)
 4 stop all services that take access to WiFi devices (only done once)
 5 plug the adapter (all USB devices connected to an USB2 port due to well known USB3 problems)
 6 create target BPF (only done once)
 7 attack target: $ time hcxdumptool
 8 convert the hash: $ hcxpcapngtool
 9 confirm the attack: $ hashcat (hashmode 22001)
10 remove test files

generate PMK:

Looks like the current status of the bug is "RESOLVED OBSOLETE", does this mean they won't merge it at all?

Tried with the PR above, doesn't appear to be stable for me. hcxdumptool freezes shortly after launch. TP-LINK Archer T2U v3, TP-Link TL-WN823N and ALFA AWUS036NEH work fine on the same setup.

  This is an alternative driver for various Realtek RTL8XXX
  parts written to utilize the Linux mac80211 stack.
  The driver is known to work with a number of RTL8723AU,

  This driver is under development and has a limited feature
  set. In particular it does not yet support 40MHz channels

Straight after dmesg log has been flooded with this messages, the entire USB subsystem (and every service / tool that takes access to it) hangs (e.g, lsusb, thunar and finally dmesg).

This one should be fixed in 6.16. Older kernels will also get the fix eventually.

Thanks for this information. I've tested the upstream driver already and it is working fine.
If the kernel has been released, I'll add some real world tests here.
