Some finishes, FMQ and an Award

Have you missed me?
I've not been hiking since my previous post, so didn't get lost in the forest or attacked by a wild boar! I have been extremely busy making some Christmas gifts to be sent to Norway. Every year my intention is to start early making the gifts, but it fails - always - I do wonder why?! Anyone who has an answer to it? :))
There are some Christmas gifts I can't show here! The recipients read my blog, and I don't want to spoil the suspense! So to you who know there's something coming your way; just be patient! :))

Well, there are two gifts I can show, because the two ladies who will receive these gifts, don't read my blog. I'm safe! One of them - an 84 year young lady - kindly sent me six quilt covers and a few other things, which I'm going to use for backing. I think the best way to say thank you, is to make her a little gift...
I've made two tablecloths, where I have used the same pattern and fabric. Very fun and easy to make.

Do you remember these table runners?
They have been on my "to finish" list for some weeks now, and finally now they are done!
I had some fabric left from the orange/green hibiscus, where I fussy cut some hibiscuses and leaves to applique on the table runner.

Here's the bigger table runner, with more applique.

Perhaps orange/yellow/purple is an odd color combination? I was advised to remove the orange border because it didn't match the purple, but I didn't do it. When it comes to colors, my personal opinion is that we should not follow any "rules", but do what we feel is right and not be afraid of doing something else. Perhaps the applique should have been orange, but I'm not good at drawing at all, so the "safest" for me was the fussy cutting. I've been lazy; did machine applique. I've used orange and green cotton thread (DMC) for the applique, turned out quite nice.
All in all; I love the table runners, and perhaps there'll be another quilt in the future with these "odd" colors together! :)

I've been hooked on FMQ (Free Motion Quilting) over the last days! It's all about practising, nothing else! I need to practise more on even movements. I have a tendency to move the project too fast, and I feel it goes a bit out of control. I used the Suprime Slider, which I talked about here, and Machingers Quilting gloves.
When I googled for a photo of the gloves, I ended up at this blog; 365 Days of Free Motion Quilting Filler Designs. Perhaps you already know it, but it's new to me - I'll check it out...

Even if I'm a newbie, I think the FMQ turned out quite OK. This is the back of one of the small tablecloths.

I don't know if I should show only one tea coaster? :) It's a set of four (different patterns), but I have made one only.....

I thought I had the patterns here, but now I can't find them... The others are an apple, corn (maize), but I can't remember the last one....

***************

Long time ago I received an award from Michelle, and last week (I think it was), I received the same award from Natima. Until I received it from Natima, I had completely forgotten about it - SORRY Michelle!

I am supposed to tell something about myself that you already don't know.... What should that be? I don't think I have that many secrets - lol!
I'm also supposed to pass it on to a few bloggers, which will even be worse. There are sooo many talented and versatile bloggers out there... OK, I'll pick a few then...

1) Sharon - L'Atelier and  Live Your Style
2) Elisabeth - Livet paa gaarden
3) Eva - Min Lappeverden
4) Peggy - Peg's Place
5) Bjoerg - Bjoergs Blogg

Please tell something about yourself we don't already know, and pass the award on to a few others.
I almost forgot to say a big THANK YOU to Michelle and Natima who selected me for this award!

Weekend Updates; Prize, CTS, Garden, Award...

Isn't it amazing how fast the days go by? It's already Monday, and another week starts.
I didn't manage to do as much sewing as I intended to do over the weekend. Yesterday was such a beautiful, sunny day, perfect for garden work. I did quite some weeding and I'm feeling it 'good' in my body today. My 'problem' is that I can't stop working before my body cries out; 'STOP'! It's not that I get tired, it's the darn ol' knees and lower back... A blogging friend once wrote in a post she tortures herself in the garden, and I think I do the same... I love our garden, and I love weeding too, as long as it doesn't become overwhelming. :)

Speaking about gardening... When walking home from grocery shopping some days ago, we found this beauty on the street side. Well, perhaps it doesn't look very beautiful after all, without any leaves - poor thing, but to me it is an exotic plant - and I find it beautiful. I'm not able to take a close-up of the tiny, red flower - my camera is not good enough for that. It was thrown out from a garden. I love plants; I couldn't help it - I brought it home! Now it's in a pot and I hope it starts growing after the 'shock' of being thrown out! :)) I believe this plant is called 'desert rose' - anyone knows?

If you have followed/read my blog for some time, you know all the UFO's I finished from January to May? It was a UFO-contest, which you can read more about in this post.
I didn't intend to win, I just decided to finish as many as possible of the UFO's I had. I finished 14 - and I WON the contest!

And here's the prize I received last week; a needle case! Isn't it gorgeous?! I just LOVE it!!

The front....

The back....

What is inside; scissor case and needle case for sewing machine needles. GORGEOUS!!!
It is made by Karin over at this blog and her daugther Nancy over at this blog.
Karin and Nancy; THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH! I LOVE IT!!! :)
(This is my first needle case ever!)

I started writing this post this morning, thought I was going to publish it, but then I decided to wait getting some more updates.
I've been working on the four 'angel-blocks' for the Christmas tree skirt (CTS) today, and here's how it turned out;

These four blocks are almost done; I have to buy red seed beads for the halo. Next step is another four blocks; the manger. It has a lot of small pieces - as I can recall there are almost 20 pieces - it'll take some time.... :)

Vicki over at this blog, surprised me with a very nice Award.

This is an Award about being true to oneself.
Thank you so very, very much Vicki! :)

I'm passing this lovely Award on to;

Anne-Lise - Sjoko Quilt

for being true to themselves and sharing about life.
Thanks for sharing about life!

Weekend job and 'winter' approaching

It feels like yesterday we all complained about the heat and humidity.
'Winter' is approaching - I love this time of the year! Situated 20 degrees South of Equator, it never snows here of course, but the temperatures may go as low as 8 C (46F) in July/August. I love the crisp air and cooler days - reminds me of Norway.
April 14th is the first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. I don't think the day is celebrated anymore among Norwegians.... Tamil New Year was celebrated here this April 14th. I don't know if there is a connection between the Tamil New Year's celebration and the first day of summer in Norway.... You can read more about Tamil New Year here

Sunset between Corps de Garde and St. Pierre Mountain.

Batting and backing for the bedcover. I hate doing this, but a quilt will never be finished if this part isn't done! :)) I tape the backing to the table so that it doesn't move... Not the table, the backing! :)) Then I put the batting and the top, pin, and....

... ready for quilting.
I didn't have enough safety pins so I sent DH to town buying 100 pins! :) It's not that he had to go buying the pins only, he had other errands too.
This photo was taken some days ago. Yesterday I finished the quilting and this weekend I'm going to do the binding.

I can't believe it! I've received another Award - this one from 'Lappedamen'!
As I said in this post, I find it very difficult to choose other blogs that deserve an Award. There are SO MANY great blogs and crafty bloggers in Blogland, so in a way it won't be fair to choose a few only.
I have seen quite some bloggers who say 'no thank you' to Awards, but personally I feel childish honored that I can be to any inspiration to others, and by that I do add the received Awards to my blog.
Therefore - if YOU feel you deserve this Award, please grab it and add it to your blog!
YOU deserve it!

It's such a beautiful morning; 20C (68F), blue sky and crisp air.
I'm ready for the garden!

Chicken Family and another award

DEAR FRIENDS & READERS,

HAPPY EASTER!

I've mentioned in a previous post I was waiting for 2 parcels from the US, both of them consisting of fabrics to finish 'Alouette's Quilt'. I read somewhere parcels from the US may take as long as up to 12 weeks international due to customs. I ordered the fabrics almost at the same day; one parcel arrived after 6 weeks - the other one after 7 weeks! Needless to say I was desperate, because I feared the parcels had gone astray. I got the second parcel on Saturday and intended to work on the quilt during the weekend. The only thing I did was to measure the backing and then I felt puffed. I have to add two pieces for the backing, perhaps I'll do it today - I don't think I feel for any garden work today...

Instead of finishing the quilt as I intended, I made the chicken family! Easter and all - I needed some decoration. Aren't they cute?! The pattern is from talented Stella Whittingham - visit her blog here. She has some free patterns too.
Look who's on the top right side corner of the photo?! I wonder what he was thinking when he saw the chickens..... :))

I received this lovely award from Sharon at Live Your Style. Take a look at her blog - amazing photos of Mauritius! Visit her other creative blog too; L'Atelier.
I'm feeling very honored!
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH SHARON!!!

It's never easy to pass on an award, because there are sooo many talented and creative bloggers and beautiful blogs  out there.
I'm unable to pick only four bloggers for this award. If YOU feel YOU deserve this award, please grab the button, place it on your blog and pass it on to four other beautiful blogs/bloggers!
PLEASE don't be shy! YOU deserve this beautiful award!

A couple of weeks ago or so, I received this award from Siv Hege - THANK YOU! :) I appreciate you find my blog as a source of inspiration!

There are a few simple rules to be followed by receiving this award:

~ Add the link to the person you received the award from on your blog.
~ Tell 7 things about yourself.
~ Give the award to 7 bloggers who inspire you.

SO! What do I tell about myself that my readers don't already know? I never find it easy to talk about myself, but here are a few things:

~ Chocoholic
~ Never completed an interior/architecture course
~ Happily childfree
~ Love 12 months of summer - hate humidity
~ Unpredictable
~ One dream is to sell some of my projects
~ Another dream is to visit New Zealand

It took me a while from I received the award until I posted about it, because I have found it very difficult to choose 7 creative bloggers who inspire me - there are thousands of them in the blogger world. Here is my selection:

HAPPY CRAFTING!

My very first Award

OMG! I've got my very first Award - Have a Wonderful Day award from Sissel. Thank you so very much Sissel! You deserve it too! It was unexpected and therefore I'm feeling honored. Who dreamt of awards and such when I started this blog?! :) As my readers and followers may remember, I'm quite new in the blogosphere, and didn't even believe my blog could be of any inspiration to others. I'm so happy it is! :) Since I started this blog about half a year ago - and even before - I have seen so many inspiring and great blogs. There is not only quilting blogs, but also cross-stitching, crocheting, knitting, tatting etc. There's a challenge with awards, to give the award to eight quilting friends/bloggers that inspires you. It hasn't been easy picking eight only, but here they are:

WISHING YOU ALL A WONDERFUL CRAFTING DAY
