I DO love Shark Week! It's a yearly event full of fun and freebies!

Jenny from Luckeyfrog's Lilypad and Matt from Digital Divide and Conquer have put together an adventure that is fin-tastic! (Sorry, you know I had to include at least one punny reference!)

This year my Shark Week Freebie is a decimal review! Just click on the graphic below to get a copy!


Students can practice writing decimals in standard form... or in word form... or they can use the cards to play Go Fish (Or... maybe... Go Shark!) So you have options of independent work or partner work. Hopefully, you can find some use for this toothy friend!


I even included a few of the tricky ones... those that will cause them to choose an answer, change it and then re-think again! (I'm sure I am not the only one to have had a child see "seventy-four and six hundredths" and have them say 74.6!!) But I do love to keep them on their toes, so I've added a few of those cards in the mix.


The cards only include tenths and hundredths, which would make this a good beginning-of-the year review for fifth graders... but I am guessing fourth graders (and maybe even some third graders) could use the activity too.

I think I was excited to make a freebie this year because I just adore these sharks from Creative Clips! (Who am I kidding?  I love everything from Creative Clips!)

Hello from Southern California! I am lucky to hang out with a great group of BlogFriends--all from Southern California! In the summer, we joined together for a Blog Hop. And we had so much fun, we are back for the Winter Edition!


Shall we talk about the weather? The weather doesn't vary much where I live. In fact, Christmas morning looked like this! Eighty degrees!



Which is why I was so surprised when a few days later, we took a forty-five minute drive and saw this...


A surprise snowfall! I guess that's one of the benefits of Southern California: Just a little drive can offer a big change of scenery!

Of course, it's sunny again this morning, and I am enjoying my coffee and planning out the last few days of break before it's time to go back to work!

Even though I teach sixth grade, I've been helping my friend who has a kindergarten class. I've always believed this to be true: Teaching little kids is DIFFICULT work. You spend hours making stuff... and the activity lasts about three minutes!

To support my pal, I've been learning about ten frames... and I'm sharing one with you as part of our Blog Hop freebie!

And for those kiddos who need a little more support, I color-coded the first number red to match the red cups. I love the graphics from Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Designs!

                                  

We played Go Fish and Concentration at my house... but I am putting them in a center in my classroom on Monday for some of my kids who still need some extra practice.

Teaching Blog Addict will always have a special place in my heart. What A WONDERFUL group of people! To me, meeting Tamara and Leslie was like meeting movie stars and they are truly among the best blog buddies you could hope for! I was also able to connect with a wonderful group of teacher-authors and I learned so much from so many of them (and I laughed a lot too!) Exponents are difficult for some kids to grasp. I find that my students still think that "five to second power" is ten and they routinely confused "cubed" and "squared." {big sigh}. This card game provides a little practice with exponents (cubed and squared)... and the cards are cute too! If you teach fourth, fifth or sixth grade, your kids might enjoy a little learning while they play.

Here is a picture of the cards in action. Fortunately, I washed this kid's desk first--or the picture would send you reaching for the Purell! I know that the cards look larger than life, but actually they fit in the palm of your hand. It also looks like the desk may have levitational powers as well, but that's not true either. Photography 101, I need you!
