This blog was started in 2008 when we did IVF for the first time to build our family after 5 1/2 years of infertility. We now have 15 and 9 year old boys (thanks to modern medicine) and we are enjoying our blessed life as parents ♥ In the summer of 2016 we took another huge step and moved across the country from Oklahoma to New York! This blog is about life and everything in between

Wet n Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel Polish 7 Day Review

One of the things I wanted for Christmas was some good gel polish to use at home. And being the frugal Shopper that I am, the first thing I did was look for coupons online. Unfortunately I couldn't find any, so I looked at reviews of affordable drugstore gel polish to decide which one I should try. The Sally Hansen gel polish actually had poor reviews, and users are not happy with the durability. The next brand I looked up was this one, Wet n Wild. It had good reviews, and users said that it lasted several days with no chips. So I went to the store and looked at it, and I was happy to see that the price was less than $5 for a bottle, and there were several colors to choose from. It says that you don't need a base coat or topcoat, so that's what I did for my first application to try it out. If it goes well, I will definitely be getting more colors!

Day 1
No base coat, no top coat. 2 coats of polish

Day 2
After washing dishes, taking a shower, and normal activities

Day 3
After washing dishes and cleaning. No chips persay, just a bit of wear along some edges. Still amazing for no topcoat!

Day 4
After a shower and scrubbing dishes. A couple small chips along the edges. A bit more wear. Still in decent shape, but I think I'll touch up the edges to freshen up and stretch out my wear a little longer.

Day 5
Even after a touch up on the tips, I still had wearing on the edges at the end of the day after chores and lots of cooking.

Day 6
Several more chips on my dominant hand.

Day 7
So definitely lots more wear and chips, mainly on my right hand.

My opinion after 1 week with this new polish is that overall I like it. Sure it got some chips after a few days, but they were only on a couple nails that got the most use. And I did not have to use a base or top coat so that saved me a lot of time waiting for it to dry. I like the wide bristle brush, and I like the opaque coverage of the color. I actually bought another color of it, and I'll be using it next week!

I recommend getting this polish--it's less than $5 and no top coat needed so less down time. Try it out!

Halfway thru the Month

I hope everyone who is blessed to be a mother had a wonderful Mother's Day! And as a courageous survivor of infertility, I urge you all to not forget those who are still trying, or have lost a pregnancy in their quest!

For mine, my darling husband got me some of my favorite snacks and some new sunglasses! He picked out a card from him, and a special card from our little one (who "signed" both). We all took my mother out for lunch then she came and hung out at my house for the afternoon.

This month has just flown by and now we are on the countdown till my birthday! Only 3 more weeks......then it's Brad's birthday and Nick's birthday....eek!

I tried a new nail polish style that I found here and I was very happy with how it turned out!

It is sort of an imitation--and much easier way--of the water marbling technique that has become popular. You can do any color, and try different swirl designs.

As we draw closer to August we are resigning ourselves to living here in Oklahoma for a few more years. As much as we would love to start fresh in a new exciting place, we can take a hint that the time is not right! There are several more houses in my neighborhood for sale now that summer is almost here so the competition is beefing up. Ours is still competitively priced for the area so we shall see!

I've enjoyed a couple days off after our getaway but tomorrow it is back to the grind at work. This weekend is the yearly Italian festival that we attend and we are all very excited about that excursion!  After that is Memorial Day, then June will already be here! We have lots of things to keep us busy this summer and our little man will be starting school in August so this will be our last few months with him here everyday with us. It will be very different with him gone, but I know he will love being around other kids and getting to learn new things everyday.

Easter Fun

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday! We had a great time with food, family, and friends.

Here were my holiday nails :) Eggshell and baby chick

Last Wednesday I took Brad to an egg hunt at a local museum. He had a fun time and got some treats!

I have been on call this whole holiday weekend but thankfully only had to go in for a couple hours this afternoon! The big dinner was my mom's house at 4pm so were all able to attend and enjoy ourselves. In attendance were us 3, my inlaws, SIL, niece Zoe, my brother Shane and his 3 kids, my stepdad's friend Charles, and his two boys. There was tons of food and we had perfect weather to go with it!

The older kids hid the eggs outside, then the 4 younger ones had a blast finding them all! Each kid got 21 eggs. They were mostly filled with candy but a few had money in them!

Brad was a very good boy who ate all of his dinner, plus cake/cupcakes/fruit salad. He had a great time playing with the other kids and running around in the yard all afternoon.

Tomorrow is the first of April and a fourth of the year is already behind us! We decided to drop the price on our house as of tomorrow so hopefully that will stir up some action. I had thought that it was the halfway point in it being for sale, but it has actually only been 2 months. We probably will not drop the price again because we want to at least break even and not owe at closing (if we ever get an offer, that is).

We also find out tomorrow if Brad got into our local Primary school so be sure to check back soon!

Spring is Here

The days are warmer, the sunset is later, and the trees are blooming! Don't get me wrong--I love winter and love the snow--we just never get a true "winter" here so I try to look forward to the changing seasons.

Last week I planted a bunch of grass seed and caught up on some yardwork. Brad helped me plant several bulbs of garlic, as well as some basil and cilantro seedlings in a greenhouse. Nick informed me yesterday that some squirrels had dug up the garlic so hopefully they will recover! Any rain we get is few and far between so I have to be diligent to water water water.

We haven't showed our house since our return from Seattle and it is hard not to get disheartened. I keep telling myself that it will pick up when the weather is nicer, when people get their taxes filed, when school is out.....it is out of my hands so it does no good to worry! Next month is our halfway point in the listing so we will drop the price to see if that helps.

As far as Plan B, we find out on April 1 if Bradley got into the local primary school.

Easter is just around the corner, and I did some festive designs on my nails to celebrate....

My mom is cooking a big Easter dinner with an egg hunt so I'm sure all of the little ones will have a blast! As Brad gets older it is so fun to watch him grow each holiday and see him enjoy it more and more!

This week was Spring break (for most) and the way I celebrated was by working extra! How fun. Hopefully the reward will be noticeable on my next payday :)

We are all looking forward to our Denver trip in May. I have been looking up fun family things to do and have found several that look neat. Ideas so far are the US Mint, a gold mine tour, and dinner at Casa Bonita. I'm sure we will also drive into the mountains, and I would love to go thru the historical Victorian towns that are around.

I seem to have been in a creative rut for awhile--yes I crocheted a ton of headwarmers/hats during the winter, but I have not scrapbooked for close to a year! I think I am overwhelmed by it because I have so much stuff that when I get it all out, I can't put it away till I am done. I have *briefly* considered getting out of my typical scrapbooking and starting to preserve our family photos in some other less hands-on way. I don't think I will revert to that until absolutely necessary, maybe when a second little one comes along....

Right now I am psyching myself up to go get a ton of photos developed and just knock it out. With Brad's fourth birthday on the horizon as well as him starting school--I will only get further behind! This has always been a fun hobby for me and I don't want it to become a burden by getting behind. We always find time for the things that are important to us!

Celebrating 10 Years of Marriage

I can't believe it has been 10 years already! For those trying to do the math, yes I got married when I was 16 and Nick was 21. We got married for no reason other than we were in love and wanted to start our life together! We have overcome a lot of obstacles and learned a lot of life lessons...but we made it thru everything and came out stronger than ever before. We know we are each other's soulmate and we look forward to spending the rest of our lives together.

You can't celebrate without pretty nails, so the first thing I did Monday was white and silver french tip with glitter.

I only worked Tuesday and Wednesday last week, and requested the rest off for celebrations! Thursday the 17th was our actual anniversary and I had booked a night at the Lindley House Cottages in Duncan. My mom watched Brad overnight for the first time and he had a fun time.

We rented the Rose Cottage. There was a stained glass rose on the front door, and a fresh red rose on the table inside to greet us!

We unpacked and got dressed up for dinner at Giuseppe's in Marlow. We got to meet the manager and the owner who both congratulated us on our special anniversary.

We spent the evening enjoying the jacuzzi tub, champagne, and relaxing. Our breakfast was delivered in the morning and consisted of french toast, eggs, bacon, apricot crumble, orange juice and coffee.

We picked up Brad from my mom's on Friday then spent the day finishing the trim on our floors. Saturday evening was our dinner party and we were going to take Brad to the daycare for it, but Nick's parents offered to take him out to their house for the night! They picked him up in the afternoon and we spent the rest of the day picking up the food and getting the house ready for guests.

I picked our beautiful cake up from our local bakery and they made it just the way I wanted!

I found the guest book from our wedding, and I used it again for the guests to sign at the party.

I believe all together we had 14 guests (not everyone is pictured). We had Johnny Carino's cater penne alfredo, chicken parmigiana, and spaghetti. I made a salad to go with it, orange creamsicle punch, and champagne. After everyone ate, Nick and I had secretly prepared a song to preform for the guests, "The Only Exception" by Paramore. After the song, we cut the cake then enjoyed spending time with our friends and family.

Our niece's birthday was Sunday so we drove out to Foster for that and were going to pick Brad up but his grandparents begged to keep him one more night. So we got to enjoy a total of 3 nights alone! We both had a wonderful weekend celebrating our love and couldn't have asked for anything better.

My 3 1/2 Year Old

I know it's a bit late, but my little one turned 3 1/2 on December 26 and you know I have to do an update on how he is growing!

Weight: 30lb
Height: 38 1/2"

At 3 1/2 years old you:
  • take about a 2hr nap during the afternoon and sleep at night from 9p-8a
  • are out of the crib and into a toddler bed!
  • only wear diapers when you sleep
  • have a major sweet tooth
  • love playing in the bath
  • wear size 7 shoe
  • can still wear some 2T clothes
  • will eat mostly everything but have days where you won't eat anything
  • can count to 20
  • know most colors and shapes
  • love to watch Spongebob, Thomas the Train, and Garfield
  • like playing with trucks, trains, and helicopters
  • love talking to and playing with other kids
  • have 2 fish and like to carry around the kitties
  • like helping momma cook

I think that sums him up pretty well right now! He is such a smart little guy and I am excited to see how he does next year in preschool!

On a different note, tomorrow starts 2013 and I'm sure it will hold a LOT of big changes. We are hoping for some significant things to happen but we know that it is all in God's plan, not ours! I was on call this last weekend and yesterday I ended up having to work 18 hours straight! It was long but I was with a fun nurse and we made it through. My boss was nice enough to let me off early today and I am off for the holiday tomorrow! Here are my NYE nails....

Christmas Eve Eve

Yeah I said it! I have been on call this weekend and worked all of it! 9 hours yesterday and 5 hours today. I can't complain though because the weekend nurse I work with is the best ever and we sit around and chat like teenagers during our downtime! We drink Starbucks, take walks, buy each other lunch....it's rough ;)

I was happy to get home in a timely fashion today and was able to cook dinner for my boys. I made a new recipe for corn chowder that was supposed to go in the crock pot but didn't because I wasn't home in time for that! I cooked it on the stove and we all loved it. Nick had 3 bowls! It's a little easier than my other chowder recipe but just as tasty so I think I will be updating my cookbook....

Here are my holiday nails (thanks Pinterest for the idea) I got done today!

I am just so freaking excited about our chance of a big snow storm on Christmas!!!! It is like the best present for Nick and I. We love snow so much but never get it here. So far the *latest* prediction is light rain Monday evening changing over into snow all day Tuesday and ending Tuesday evening with windchill below zero. Possible accumulation of 4-8". I say bring it on! The only place we plan on going Tuesday is in the early afternoon to my mom's house for breakfast and a big lunch. The rest of the day we will be at home cooking, eating, and enjoying a BIG fire in the fireplace.

I am happy to say I ended up getting a little over 10 Christmas cards this year. Not much compared to the 40 I sent out but each one is still special! It means that person took the time to pick out a card, write my name on it, and address it to my family for the holidays.

Tomorrow evening we were all going to do our Christmas-Eve-Arby's-roast-beef-sandwich tradition at Nick's parents' house in the country....but as of today they are sick and running fevers so looks like that trip is canceled. However we are of course still continuing the tradition at our house! Nick's grandparents used to do it and we have also done it every Christmas together!

That is all for now, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the snow!
