Always Open The Junk Mail (025/365)

TIME: 10:25 pm
PLACE: Kitchen
SUBJECT: Today's junk mail

*~*~*

I spent most of the evening gong through paperwork.  These were papers I shoved into cardboard boxes in an attempt to clear off my desk.  My intent was to circle back and go through them later.

That never happened in 2020.

I finally got to it. I sorted everything in the boxes in folders by month.  Then I went through the papers for the 1st quarter of 2020, scanning items when needed, shredding it all and wondering how we spent so much dang money. 1/4 of the way done!

It was after 10 when I finished.  I walked into the kitchen and noticed today's mail on the table, which wasn't much.  A Costco ad, a water bill, a credit card offer and a large 8x11 envelope from NYU.  I shredded the credit card offer without opening it. Since I was on a shredding streak, I attempted to to the same with the large NYU envelope.  It was too big to fit in the shredder slot.  I decided to open it to see if it really needed to be shredded.

There were 2-$1.00 bills attached to the single sheet of paper in the envelope.
Good thing I didn't shred it.

Apparently they were included to entice me to complete an online survey; not sure if I am going to do that....maybe.

I did learn a valuable lesson - always open the junk mail.  There could be money involved.

Where's George (248/366)

TIME: 10:02 pm
PLACE: Kitchen
SUBJECT: Dollar bill

*~*~*

We received this dollar from the Bank of America last Friday when requesting small bills for our yard sale. (Worst.Yard.Sale.Ever.BTW)

I finally keyed in the info on the www.wheresgeorge.com site tonight, eager to see where this boy has been.

.....aaaaannnnd I am only the 2nd person to enter his serial # - the 1st being the initial entry.

How disappointing!

He started out in Helena, MT back on October 8, 2019.  It took 332 days, 6 hours and 6 minutes for the 2nd entry.  He traveled at least 1,247 miles at an average speed of 3.8 miles per day.

I have a plan on releasing him back out into circulation.

I'll keep you up-to-date

St. Nicholas Coins (339/365)

“Golden coins, I’ll place at your feet
Precious jewels to make life complete
All my treasures are yours my sweet”

SUBJECT:  Gold chocolate coins

Tonight is St. Nicholas eve, and the stockings have been hung on the door handles of the children’s bedrooms.  I had planned to get the stocking stuffers at lunch today, but didn’t make it.  I had a Brownie meeting tonight, then had to pick up MB from Boy Scouts at 8:30 – so I didn’t get to leave for the dreaded Wal-Mart until then.  It took me longer than expected.  Can you believe the Mart did not have the chocolate gold coins that St. Nick *always* brings.  So I had to make a trip to Walgreens as well.  Luckily, they were with the program and the tradition has been saved.  ‘Cause if the kids didn’t find gold chocolate coins their stockings, it would have been a tragedy of epic proportions.  At least, that’s what DQ was hinting before I left the house.
