Upcycled Retro "You are inspiring" sewing pattern card

Hello Crafty Friends!

If you are a part of the Suzanne Cannon Fan Group on Facebook then you would have seen this project in process on my Show Me Sunday post.  I was in the midst of a project using an old sewing pattern and the You are stamp set:
You Are, Set of 5 - Mounted
Would you like to make an upcycled project using the lovely stamp set and an old sewing pattern?  Excellent!  You have come to the right blog post.  :)  Grab a cup of tea and enjoy the instructions...

Aside from the stamp set, you will also need:
  • An old/vintage sewing pattern in the original envelope
  • Glue stick or double sided adhesive sheet
  • Card stock for your mats and card base
  • Double sided adhesive tape roll
  • Foam tape
  • Kraft card stock to mount your sewing pattern
  • Black archival ink
  • Dye or water reactive ink that coordinates with your sewing pattern image
  • Circle or flower shape dies
  • Embellishments- such as stamen for the flowers and half pearls

Card Instructions:

  1. Cut the image from the front of a sewing pattern envelope.  Mat onto desired card stock.
  2. Cut Kraft card stock to desired size.  For my project, I made it slightly smaller than the card base.  Apply a large sheet of double sided adhesive tape or use a glue stick to mount a piece of the sewing pattern to the Kraft card stock.  Trim.  Optional:  Apply either a die cut, or wide ribbon or rectangular card stock to center of card front.  (In my case I foiled a wide ribbon in gold.)
  3. Create a tent fold card using black card stock.  Mount Kraft/sewing pattern (from prior step) onto card front.
  4. Find two areas of your sewing pattern that is free from printing.  Stamp "You are" and "inspiring" onto the open areas.  Cut to size and mount onto black card stock.
  5. Mount the image onto the card front using foam tape.  Mount "You are" as shown or as desired.
  6. Mount "inspiring" as shown or as desired.
  7. To create the sewing pattern flowers:  Cut two strips of the sewing pattern that is as wide as your circle or flower die.  You will want it long enough for several flowers to be cut.  Fold several times to create two stacks.  Die cut one folded stack using a larger circle or flower die.  Set aside.  Use a smaller circle or flower die to cut the other folded pattern.  Dye your flowers as desired.  In may case I used a yellow and red dye.  Use a heat tool to help dry the pattern.  (It takes a long time to dry otherwise!)  Create your flowers.
  8. Mount the flowers to the card front.  I decided to mount mine around "inspiring" to really put emphasis on the word.
  9. Add embellishments.

Isn't it a cool card?  The tres chic woman looks quite inspiring in her retro dress!

Flourished Night Sky - You Are Amazing - Where Flowers Bloom - Easel Flower Branch

Yogi here today with a bit of a surprise... This is the 1st time I've used Suzanne's basic flower from Flourished Night Sky die set. It was a little too plain for my style of card making, but then I looked at it... and decided to put slits in it and voila I love this die. BIG GRIN My whole perspective changed, Love when that happens.

I'm using a die "You Are" 2pce set, "Amazing" 2pce set  and "Flourished Night Sky" 4pce set from Elizabeth Craft Designs, also available on Quietfire Design HERE, HERE and HERE

I'm also using a clear quote stamp ("Where Flowers Bloom Collection" 8pce set) from Quietfire Design also available from Elizabeth Craft Designs HERE

Scored and folded my white cardstock to create the easel structure. Cut a piece same size as card and adhered to card front then cut a piece of Mid toned blue paper and adhered to card front. Cut a smaller rectangle from cream toned textured cardstock and adhered to card front.
Die cut the "flower" shape from a light blue cardstock that I had sponged and hit direct to paper with various Distress blue pads. Cut slits between the scallops to create a 4 petal flower. Tooled with a split oval shape tool on the backside. Turned flower right side up and pressed down with a small balled stylus.

Die cut the "Berry Spray" (Elizabeth Craft Designs) from a white cardstock and colored with Distress brown pads. Adhered to card front. Adhered a bunch of the tooled flowers. Added a dot of Liquid Pearls "Petal Pink" to each flower center.

Die cut some "Curvy Leaves" (Elizabeth Craft Designs) from alcohol decorated paper. Adhered to card.

Stamped the butterflies on another alcohol background piece of paper using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed, then fussy cut them out. Adhered to card front adding mini amber rhinestones to the bodies.

Die cut the words from an aqua blue glitter adhesive backed cardstock and adhered to card front.

On the floor:
Stamped the quote onto white cardstock using the black and clear embossed. Die cut with Elizabeth Craft Designs "Stitched circles" die set. Adhered to card floor.

Adhered some branches, a few flowers and some leaves and another butterfly - this one just colored with Distress blue.

You Are so Loved Art Journal Page

Hey Quietfire Fans! With Valentine's Day right around the corner and I thought that I'd share a love themed art journal page with you on the blog. My You Are so Loved Art Journal Page features a variety of Quietfire Design Stamps. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite winter beverage as you learn how to recreate my art journal page at home.

To start, paint two pages in your art journal page with White paint. Once the paint has dried, randomly paint streaks in the middle of the pages using Peony Blush and Cherry Pie Paint.

Once the paint in the middle has dried, place the Dotty Stencil randomly on the middle of your pages and spritz Post Box Red Dylusions Ink Spray overtop, stencil as many times as desired. Place the Heart Stencil randomly on the middle of your pages and spritz Black Marble Dylusions Ink Spray overtop, stencil as many times as desired. Place the Stitches Stencil randomly on the middle of your pages and spritz Rose Quartz Dylusions Ink Spray overtop, stencil as many times as desired. Once the ink spray has dried, paint white gesso slightly overtop of the pink areas. After the white gesso has dried, apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Crackle Background Stamp and Grid Background Stamp and randomly stamp in the pink painted areas.

Die cut one 3 1/2" Stitched Heart and two 3" Stitched Heart out of watercolour cardstock. Die cut eight small hearts out of watercolour cardstock using the Entwined Hearts. You'll also need a scrap piece of watercolour cardstock. On the three stitched hearts and scrap piece of watercolour paper, spritz them with water and then spritz with Rose Quartz, Cherry Pie and Postbox Red Dylusions Ink Spray. Dry the hearts and scrap piece of watercolour paper with a heat tool. Spritz the small hearts using Postbox Red, Cherry Pie and Rose Quartz Dylusions Ink Spray. Set the hearts aside to dry. Apply Emboss It Ink to the Twiggy Heart Wreath stamp and stamp onto the coloured scrap piece of watercolour cardstock. Sprinkle Midnight Black Embossing Powder overtop of the image. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Fussy cut the heart out. Ink the edges of the stitched hearts and fussy cut heart.

On a second piece of watercolour cardstock, spritz Cherry Pie, Rose Quartz and Postbox Red Dylusions Ink Spray. Dry the piece of watercolour cardstock with a heat tool. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the "You Are so Loved" sentiment and stamp onto the coloured piece of cardstock. Fussy cut the words out.

Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Grid Background and randomly stamp onto the three stitched hearts. Re-ink the stamp as desired. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Crackle Background and randomly stamp onto the three stitched hearts. Re-ink the stamp as desired.

Adhere the fussy cut heart to the 3 1/2" stitched heart. Adhere the 3 1/2" stitched heart to the middle of the page. Adhere one of the 3" stitched hearts to the left of the 3 1/2" stitched heart and adhere the other 3" stitched heart to the right of the 3 1/2" stitched heart. Adhere the "You Are so Loved" sentiment to the right of the right hand side stitched heart. To the right of the sentiment, adhere three small hearts. To the left of the small left hand side heart, adhere five small hearts.

Rub Worn Lipstick Distress Crayon along the edges of the art journal page. To finish off the art journal page, splatter Black Marble Dylusions Ink Spray randomly overtop of the art journal page.

Here are a few close up's of my You Are so Loved Art Journal Page.

Thanks so much for joining me today and taking a look at my project! I hope that I've inspired you to want to recreate my art journal page at home.

Flourished Oval - Mom You Are So Loved

Yogi here today and I made a top fold card... a rare occurrence for me. I was gifted with a sampler pack of cardstock and papers in various colors, such beautiful pearlescent and metallic papers. I'm using 3 from the sampler pack..

I'm using an A Way With Words dies  "Flourished Oval Frame" 2pce set and "Butterfly Flourish" 3pce set from Elizabeth Craft Designs, also available on Quietfire Design HERE and HERE

And I'm using a design element and sentiment stamps from Quietfire Design ("Keep Calm and Call MOM" 3pce set): ("You Are" 5pce set)

Scored and top folded my white cardstock. I cut a piece of Stardream "Azalea", same size as card front and adhered this deep pink to front.

Cut a piece of Stardream Rose Qurtz (light pink) a touch smaller than card to have a border around the edges of the deep pink. Die cut the rose design (Sizzix Tim's "Mixed Media #5) and adhered to front.

Stamped the "Mom/rose design onto white cardstock using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed. Painted the flower/leaves with watercolors. Fussy cut around some of the flourishes and positioned my oval flourish die, placing the cut flourishes above the die so they wouldn't be cut off.

Cut a flourished oval from the light pink cardstock. Cut the larger oval (Elizabeth Craft Designs "Stitched Ovals") from the deep pink. Die cut the white layer using "Curious Metallics Iced Silver" and the Cuttlebug Anna Griffin "Flourish Medallion". Adhered these layers together,

Stamped the text using the black and clear embossed. Adhered the flourished oval assembly

I had some Brusho/Colour Burst decorated cardstock in pinks and die cut the butterfly. Adhered to front and added some white half pearls to the body.

You Are

Hello, Diana here with a question for you!  So have you ever bought a stamp set and used every single stamp in that set?  I actually have a hard time doing that - there's always that one stamp in the set that I must have and others I find I love to use but as much as I hate to admit it, there's usually a stamp in a set that never gets inked.  However, I am happy to say that is not the case with this stamp set You are from Quietfire Design.

I lined up all of the 4 descriptives and embossed in clear on white card stock.  I then used my blue and green Distress Inks and sponged over two third of the card stock to make the lettering pop.  The top third is gold embossed with flowers from Elizabeth Craft Designs Flower Power.  I then embossed in white on black card stock the "You Are" and popped it up above the background.

And voila!  I used every stamp from the set! And I let the recipient know in no uncertain terms just what I think of them.  :)

"You are so loved" shabby card

 Hello Crafty Friends!

Kathy Jo here sharing a card using Quietfire Design's new stamp set, You are:
You Are, Set of 5 - Mounted
The lovely, versatile stamp set is perfect for cards, scrapbook pages and mixed media art.
The base of the card was created using Spellbinders die designed by Becca Feeken (Regal Allure).
The back side of the card had the flourishes removed.  The blue cardstock base had white paint applied along all edges for a shabby look.
A triple crinkle ribbon was added to the front for a sweet finish.
Thank you so much for stopping by!  I do hope you enjoyed the card.
Have a happy, crafty day!
Big Hugs,
Kathy Jo

You Are Amazing

I'm ending March's month of friendship on the Quietfire blog with an amazing (see what I did there?) card to be sent to that friend who has been there for you even when you're being unreasonable and irrational - because she know that you're just venting and needing an ear.  I am so thankful for my girlfriends who've been calm and just wonderful listeners.

And because they're worth gold, I started with some gold embossing with blooms from Altenew's Majestic Blooms on water color paper.  I then used my Zig clean color brushes to add some very light coloring.  I used the same purply pinks to make a was on a strip of paper that I had clear embossed You Are from Quietfire You Are stamp set.  I then added a black die cut of Amazing and then clear embossed it several times with extra thick embossing powder.  I love how shiny and dimensional it was on the card.  Finally, adhered the watercolor layer to black card stock to match the die.

The You are stamp set is great on its own because it comes with other adjectives but also pairs up wonderfully with many of the new dies.  Check it out in the what's new section of the Quietfire store and see how many combos you can come up with.
