Stop And Organize Your Scrap Paper Now

Good morning, does your craft room look like this. I am an organized freak but this was just getting out of control. This is a plastic shoe box filled with scrap paper. They are smaller scraps as I have a 12"x 12" box of large sheets,  Mind you I took out about 3 inches of paper when I decided to take a few photos and not just the video, so this is how it looks without the paper!

This next area is right above my work area. So I cut something and throw the papers on the scrap boxes rather than sort small from large. As you can see it too is out of control. So get ready and let's get to work. The video will show you step by step what I did.

This is actually very easy, just time consuming as you need to decide what you are keeping and what you are throwing. Now you need to know I have a hard time throwing out paper so I even have a bunch of note cards ready to design now!

This is a bunch of stacks of papers in different sizes. I sorted papers in 5.5 x 4.25, 5.25 x 4, 5 x 3.75, 5 x anything smaller for easel cards and the inside of a card. I also kept small pieces of glitter paper and shiny paper to use on my scrapbooks and inside cards.

This is the start of a stack of card bases. Anything that would fit an A2 card was placed here. I also started 3 x 3 note card bases too, as I use them in gifts and many misc occasions.

These are my scrap bins. I used to put everything in them and then they got so filled up it was too heavy to lift them off the shelf everyday. I will go through these also and cut the small pieces and leave the large for making large projects. Remember I am not only a card maker, I am mainly into scrap booking.

Now this is how it looks now (before finishing). Easy to find and look for the colors you want. You can take new if you don't have in this little box. The labels are just 2 sheets of paper I didn't like cut in 5 1/2 x 5 inch sheet and then I just printed on the top on these make shift index cards.

As you can see each index card is different and it works to organize the papers in similar sizes that we use for the base of cards.

Thought you would like to see all of them so I took plenty of photos.

And another tab. This works so well I love organization it takes a while to do but it sure saves time each day.

Now this next one is the most used. And I might add this is how I got this idea. A friend of mine, Melissa of Melissa Made It cuts her card fronts up front and keeps them like this for future use. I took it a step further and made the sizes I use regularly.

As you can see if you file in the wrong slot it show up right away.

I keep the card bases up front and easy to access.

Then of course I fond papers that went great together and so I made the base of the card, all ready to finish.

I did all of the above yesterday. Today I tackled this stack and finished and filed everything in the box. I am ready to attack the next box to see if I have small paper in it and will only keep large papers in these 12 x 12 boxes.
I hope you enjoyed today's post and learned something that will save you time in the future. I really think this is so easy and it will make my card making a little easier. Thanks for joining me and for the sweet - sweet words. You comments always inspire me. Have a blessed week.

Organizing Scrap Paper & Making Cards From Scraps

Hello, it's been a while since I posted anything. Just like you I have been busy getting ready for Christmas. I made all my Christmas card and even the tags that went on the children's gifts.
In the mean time my scraps have been stacking up. I have had 4 card parties, Halloween cards, a tag swap and the Christmas cards and tags. A little over 4 inches of scrap paper! And I didn't use scraps on hardly any of that!!! I know shame on me.

See how easy this was. The only thing is it was time consuming. I just turned on the TV and watched HGTV while I was trimming and sorting papers.

This is a picture of the small scraps and I am able to just finger through it to see if  have anything I need. This size is great for punches and dies as there are some really small pieces in here.

The top two boxes are for large scraps and I have them placed right in front of me. All I have to do is reach up and use what I need. I am going to concentrate on using these scraps for a while by going to the scraps first to use for my cards.

Now this is what I used  for my two cards that I made. I did the little circles and squares and chose two flowers. See the one on the right, that was the original color of the flower. I changed the colors to match the flowers in the base color of the card. Then I did print and cut and went about putting my card together.

I just love the way they turned out, and will be using them. I can see where this is really going to work our well. The Explore really make it possible with changing the color. I love the print and cut as it allows me to use a finished size that I normally would have never attempted cutting because the layers would have been too small. Now I just flatten. LOVE IT!
I hope you enjoyed today's post and that it really helps you in dealing with your scraps. I would have love file folders but I just don't have the space for it and this WORKS! Thank your for your sweet-sweet words of encouragement. Your comments continue to inspire me.
Have a blessed day.

Punch Storage

Hi folks,

Ian, here, from A Newbie Crafter!  Today I'm showing you how to upcycle something you may not need anymore!  Recently I purchased 3 large stamp organizers from Close To My Heart.  Since I had been storing my stamps in the smaller ones I realized I didn't need them anymore so I wanted to find a way to upcycle them.  I realized that I could fit 2 large punches from Martha Stewart in them so I decided to label the organizer so I knew.  I used a plain grey cardstock cut at 3" and then used Art Philosophy for the letters.  I chose the set with the circles in them so that it added an extra flair.  Since the letters would not fit side by side, I had to off-set them a bit to make sure everything fit on one side.  Now, what can you upcycle?

Craft on,
Ian

Cart Storage Made Easy

Hello! Seems like this is the time of the year where everyone is organizing their scrap rooms and supplies. The biggest hurdle many of us have is what to do with our carts. Well I thought I would show you both the methods I am using and both work wonderful depending on your needs. Most of my carts are in this wonderful container that was purchased at Joann's. Most of the carts have their name on the top and all are in alphabetical order. This 3 row plastic container holds 144 carts..... 48 on each row. I have to buy 3 more carts to fill it up!

Notice how most of them have a little tag on the top saying what they are, yes I am just a little behind buy I was taking advantage of all the sales they had over the holidays and need to make tags for the new ones. Now I don't worry about the books on any of these as the books are on my kindle fire and I can easily refer to that for all the details, but honestly most of the time I just check my Gypsy Woman and the carts wit safely on the shelf.
This is the first method I used but it is a little more expensive.... Cricut.com sells these carrying cases for $29.99 and they hold 12 carts. They are wonderful for keeping your cart and book together as there are many carts that PC still does not have on their site for downloading. They are also great if you are going to a crop and want to take your carts along.... Now I have my Gypsy Woman so they sit on the shelf too.

This is how the inside of the case looks, you can see how convenient is is. I hope these little organizer tips helped you today. I am a Gypsy user though and love that I no longer have to carry them around. I am excited for all you CCR users that now can link your carts as you too feel the freedom of not switching carts and it is wonderful!
If you use a different method to store be sure to share in the comment section of this post as I am sure there are many methods that work and will be helpful for others.
Thank you for your sweet sweet words of inspiration. Your comments inspired me to continue sharing with you.

Organizing Paper

I sure hope you are all having a WONDERFUL day!!! I know I am. I am really excited about sharing this organizational tip with you as paper has always been a problem in my scrap room. From what I hear from others it is a problem with most of us. Well I came up with a simple system that is inexpensive, pleasing to the eye and so easy to do that you will love it.
First I started out with a Cropper Hopper Vertical Ensemble that I picked up at Joann's and with my 50% off coupon it was only $12.50. I purchased 3 over a period of one week as they only allow 1 coupon per day! These are great as they hold 12x12 papers and had individual folders allowing you to file within each box.

Then I got busy making my labels by just running a image search on Google.com and picked out what I wanted. Then I added the words I wanted and printed them on card stock. If you would like to use mine just click on the word and download the copy (MS Excel). Be sure that if you use a Cropper Hopper trim to 2.75" wide.  Solid PaperSpecialty Paper - Printed Paper

After I trimmed the label to fit I placed the clear packing tape over the entire label and then adhered that to the Cropper Hopper. No all I had to do was add the papers.

This is the video showing how I store my paper. I just love how I can now put my fingers on my paper within moments rather than spending hours searching for just the right color.
I hope you enjoyed today's post and come back to see us again tomorrow when we have another great idea to share with you. Thank you for your sweet sweet words of encouragement. You comments continue to inspire me to share with you.

Planning & Organizing Key To Increased Production

Too often I go to crops and see people fumbling with what to do. They are trying to choose the photos they want to use. Then they have difficulty choosing just the right paper and embellishments to go with it. Before you know it the time is gone and they have maybe 1 page completed. It is such a shame. All you need is a little organization and you should be able to get 3 to 6 maybe even 10 layouts completed in a single 3 to 5 hour session.

Take a few moments of time just to organize. I use plastic envelopes that I purchased from Creative Memories that even have a front pocket to store small items. I have also seen similar items at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joanne’s and most local scrap stores. Use an envelope for each 12x12 or 2 facing pages. Choose your photos place them in the pocket. I then use the Layout Planner sheets from Organizedscrapbooks.com. I keep a supply of them printed so that I can do a hard layout while I am not busy but don't have time to scrap (watching TF, Dr. Office, work breaks etc). Now I must admit I use my Gypsy to do my layouts and carry that where ever I go. I still have a copy on hand as I plan my scrapbooks and this keeps me in on track. After I have a layout plan either on paper, Cricut Design Studio or my Gypsy, I choose the paper, place in the envelope. I then choose any coordinating papers I need for my cuts or the embellishments. I also place any other item such as ribbons, buttons, stickers, letters or anything I will use for my page in the envelope.

I then store this till I am ready to cut and put together. I am one of those people that find it difficult to just sit and watch TV, so I use that time to do my sorting of photos, and my designing of pages. It enables me to do what I love while spending time with my husband.

I will continually repeat this process with each page in my scrapbook. When I am ready to get to work all I need to do is get my Cricut and cut and then start putting the pages together.

These page kits are wonderful for when you go to a crop or a swarm. You will find yourself carrying less to the function, enjoying yourself, and getting more done because you took advantage of planning and organizing your pages at an earlier time when it was more convenient for you.

Creating On the Run - Christmas Gift Tags

Too often in our busy lives we think that we just don't have time to get things done. Recently on the Cricut Message Board there was a thread discussing the inability to get their crafting done. Comments made always seem to include not enough time to cut. The Gypsy finally allowed enough time to design but there just wasn't enough time to get the cricut out and put their items together. We all feel that way, don't we?

This is just a little suggestion that I hope will help you use your time wisely. I only have a few hours a week to actually cut out my projects so what I have started doing is putting together little project bags. I cut my projects and place them in plactic bags and carry them with me. Yesterday I put together these gift tags from Very Merry Tags. I just placed the baggies in my purse with a zig glue pen and am all set to go. I finished 18 tags on my lunch hour while visiting with the other ladies. I have done the same thing with my cards. I just cut them and place them in a baggie and complete sometime during the week.

I hope just this one little suggestion helps you create a little more in your busy week.
