Iridescence with ProMarkers

It's a bit of a stretch of the 'Around The World' theme this month, but we're off to the Americas to where the hummingbirds do their amazing flying, hovering and most particularly their colour and iridescence. How to capture that on paper? This image from our sponsors this month, Bugaboo Stamps, needed bright colours, as well as delicate shading, and ProMarkers were my first choice. A light touch with some Star Dust Stickles added the iridescence that I wanted - it also helps to use more than one colour on the plumage.

Pens used:
Sky: Arctic Blue/Pastel Blue
Bird: Lavender (wings), Denim Blue/Turquoise/Bright Green
Flowers: Maroon/Magenta/Hot Pink/Carmine, Gold/Canary
Leaves: Pear Green/Bright Green

The sentiment is a die cut from Craftwork Cards.

Until next time, which will be my last time on this fabulous DT,

Neil

May - Around the World - Angelie

Hi Everyone

Hope you enjoyed the long weekend! I've decided to use this cute image for my DT project as it made me smile :) I've coloured it with promarkers and attached it to a little handmade gift box which would fit one or two posh chocolates.
Looking forward to seeing your makes before the end of the month

Inspiration by Sammy

Hi all, Sammy here with some more around the world inspiration for you featuring a fab image from our sponsor Bugaboo.

The sentiment is in Doric, a dialect spoken in North-East Scotland, and means "How are you?" (which I added to the bottom of the card, as you can see.) It's a bit of an in-joke, as my brother - the recipient - is becoming more and more intelligible every time we see him. I'm sure he's making half of it up! ;-)

There's still a week to enter this month, so I hope you'll come and play along!

Around the World - Mags

Hi Folks
Mags here with some inspiration for our current challenge which is Around the World.

I used an image from our sponsor Bugaboo Stamps to create my altered gift box.  I do tend to keep empty boxes for recycling and this was a Turkish Delight box from Christmas.  I coloured the image with promarkers and matted onto a diecut.  I covered the box with chocolate themed papers from my stash and some chocolate ribbon.

Thanks for popping by and you have until the end of the month to enter the challenge.
Bye for now
Mags

Lots of layers... must be time to do some decoupage!

'Lots of layers' has a very strong association with decoupage for me, as I'm still getting to grips with how to make a card front heavy with layers without it falling over! The 'BBrat Girl Balloon Sitter' image from our sponsors this month, Bugaboo Digi Stamps, is perfect for creating a layered decoupage. I printed four copies to an A4 sheet of my favourite coated card, and cut out and layered up each part of the image based on the foreground/background position of each element. Once everything was assembled, I coloured in with ProMarkers. Doing it this way made sure I didn't waste time and ink colouring in things that would be covered by the next layer. I then matted onto an 8x8" card blank.

With a straight on view, there's just an emphasis of the shading I did with the colour, but top down you can see the   layers a bit better. Oh, and I've learnt a bit more about matting layers without the card toppling forward - a couple of the mats are paper rather than card ;)

Until next month, happy crafting!

Neil

January - Lots of Layers - Angelie

Hi there

Hope you are all enjoying this month's challenge. For my card I decoupaged this image into three layers and added a quote which seemed to fit really well and will be very apt for the recipient

More information on the card is available on my blog

Lots of Layers by Mags

Hi Folks
Mags here to share a little inspiration for our current challenge which is Lots of Layers.  I used a sweet image from our sponsor Bugaboo Stamps for my inspiration project.

I coloured the image using my promarkers and added some stickles to various parts of the image for added sparkle.  Unfortunately, this doesn't show up too well on the photo.  Various layers of card and paper with a few embellishments and the card was done.  A bit of a different colour combo for me but I quite like it.

Watch out for more inspiration during the month from my talented teamies.

Bye for now

Lots of layers, by Amanda

Happy new year everyone!

This month's theme is Lots of Layers, and our sponsor is Bugaboo Stamps.  Once Christmas is out of the way, I just want it hurry up and be Spring, so I've chosen this beautiful butterfly image to work with for this challenge.  I printed it once onto paper and once onto vellum (for an extra wing), then coloured it with metallic markers and matted with plain and shimmery papers. For more info, please see my blog, here.

Happy crafting!

September challenge - Shades of one

Thank you to everyone who joined in with last months challenge, all of the design team have loved looking at your wonderful creations and visiting all of your blogs. You are all very talented.

This month the Crafting Cafe challenge theme is 'Shades of One'....... so, feel free to use whatever colour makes you happy, we just want to see lots of shades of one colour. Time to get your pencils, inks or pens out.... but don't worry, if you don't like to colour you could always use lots of shades of paper and create a paper piecing work of art. Whatever you do, we can't wait to see it!

We have 2 sponsors this month......

Watch this space to see all the great things the design team create over the month to inspire you.
To get the ball rolling here are two cards that I have made using images provided by both sponsors.

This one is using an image from Bugaboo (I adore working with the Bugaboo images),

and this one is an image from Scribble and scrap (I love this image - it looks just like one of my nieces)

I'll pop some close ups of these cards and a few others onto my blog. You can find that here....

Happy crafting

Love is... tarmacing!

'Love is...' by Neil Burley

It's easy to be inspired when working with great images, and the digistamp from Bugaboo Digital Stamps that I chose this month is no exception. I decided to make a 12x12" background using canvas covered board, and after a little consideration, used a base coat of titanium white buff acrylic to create some texture to work on. I added a generous layer and brushed a basketweave-like pattern into the wet paint. After this dried I sponged metallic gold and red paints around the outer edges to create a vignette effect.

Once all that had dried, I used the so-called tarmac technique to highlight the textures and blend the colours together as well as enhancing the vignette effect - essentially the process is to use a bitumen coating that is brushed on, dried and then rubbed back.

Using the heart shape from the image, I cut a bespoke stencil for the hearts, sandwiching two sheets of 160gsm card together to get the depth I wanted. Using the stencil, I applied Apple Red Cosmic Shimmer Sparkle Texture Paste through and allowed it to dry overnight.

Finally, the image itself is coloured with ProMarkers and enhanced with Glossy Accents before mounting on the canvas with foam pads. A true mixed media piece!

Love and Marriage - The Sparkly Fairy

Hello!
Its that time of the month, when it is my turn to share my take on the theme for our June Challenge. Our sponsors this month are Bugaboo  and I used the image Love Owls.

I decided to create something a bit different this month using gilding flakes to back the image which has been printed onto acetate.

You can see more on my blog.

I do hope this inspires you to join our challenge!
