Investing for the long term. Our futures depend on it.

About us

Legal & General is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. Our three divisions enable us to carefully invest capital over the long term in a responsible way that delivers returns to shareholders while doing good. Along with growing our pension risk transfer business, our strategy focuses on asset management as the cornerstone of our business, including by opening up private markets to more of our clients. Meanwhile, our retail business is focused on building lifelong relationships with customers as they save for retirement and protect themselves and their families. What unites all three parts of our business is summed up in our purpose statement which sets out what we do, why we do it, and our belief in the power of capital. It builds on what’s inspired us since our beginnings in 1836, and challenges us to do more, with greater urgency, in more places, for more people and in more ways, for the long term.

Updates

  • Today we completed the sale of our US insurance entity to Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company, creating a long-term partnership that strengthens our US Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) proposition.    • £1.2bn Solvency II capital  • £1.3bn IFRS equity gain (as guided at signing)  • Additional £1bn return of capital (total planned 2026 share buyback £1.2 bn)    By combining financial strength and PRT expertise, we are able to offer a highly compelling US PRT proposition via Banner Life, characterised by excellent customer service, execution certainty, strong capital backing and long-term policyholder security.    A clear proof point in our strategy: a stronger balance sheet, more capital released, and capacity to accelerate growth in US PRT with an aligned, long-term partner and investor. This week, our CEO António Simões joined Will Bain on the BBC’s Big Boss interview to discuss some of the biggest challenges facing the UK.   With millions still under‑saving for retirement, António set out why modernising auto‑enrolment, boosting financial education and introducing targeted guidance are essential to improving long‑term outcomes for savers.   He also highlighted the important role pension providers can play in supporting UK growth, from productive finance and regional regeneration to investment in digital infrastructure. All while recognising the need to balance employer pressures, navigate policy uncertainty and respond to societal concerns around areas such as AI, planning and risk appetite.   You can find the interview in full here: https://lnkd.in/eaTAkBJW

  • We are pleased to partner with HSBC UK to help more customers access guaranteed income solutions. Eligible customers can now apply directly for an annuity online with us through HSBC’s website, while retaining confidence that they can explore the best rates available in the market. This partnership builds on our existing collaboration, as HSBC UK customers already have access to our intermediated product suite of Life Insurance, Income Protection and Critical Illness Cover. Together, we can help more people find financial stability and peace of mind with retirement income options.

  • Today is known as ‘Divorce Day’, when family lawyers see a spike in enquiries following the festive period. More than 200,000 people who divorce after 50 are expected to delay retirement. With less time to rebuild savings, the financial choices made during and after a separation can shape long-term financial wellbeing and our research suggests later-life separation can have a significant impact on retirement plans. Divorce can be a challenging time, but support is available. It’s always worth seeking financial advice early to understand your options as you move into a new chapter. We’ve also produced a financial health check tool to help you rebuild a brighter financial future: https://lnkd.in/ezt9Kf9T

A big thank you to all our colleagues for their hard work, driving us toward a growing, simpler, better-connected L&G. Here's to another exciting year ahead! Happy New Year from all of us at L&G!

  • During this festive season, our Cardiff team partnered with Noah's Ark Children's Hospital Charity and The Tidy Kitchen Co to spread some holiday cheer to those spending Christmas in the hospital.   Noah’s Ark, the only children's hospital in Wales, plays a vital role in providing support to young patients and their families not only from Wales but also from regions such as Avon, Somerset, and Devon.   Thanks to the generosity of everyone who donated, the children at Noah's Ark will receive toys and gift cards not only for Christmas but for any time they need a little extra joy throughout the year. Collaborating with Tidy Kitchen, we also provided nutritious meals to families staying on the wards over Christmas, along with plenty of snack boxes for the hospital staff.   A big thank you to our dedicated employees, the amazing team at Tidy Kitchen, and the wonderful staff at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital. Your efforts helped us spread a little bit of joy this holiday season.
