#Repost @natures “These are single celled organisms called stentors, and because of their shape they are also known as trumpet animalcules. This species is called stentor amethystinus, and it’s green due to a symbiotic relationship with the algae chlorella. The color varies between species, and both blue, pink, brown and transparent stentors have been found. They can reach a size of a couple of millimeters and are thereby some of the largest known single celled organisms in the world. However, these are under half a millimeter, and barely visible with the naked eye. Stentors are ciliates, which mean they have a large number of small hair-like structures on the outside of the cell, used for feeding and movement.
