Hello again

It has been more than a couple of years since my last post. Time really does fly when you're having fun.
B is now 11 and Little Miss is 7.

Our weeks are full with school, homework, housework, work, pets, gardening, after school activities, play dates and family fun.

B is a proper tween and exercises a lot of attitude on the family. He is still obsessed with Minecraft and it proves as annoying as it is useful currency to get him to do stuff. His favourite thing is to skype friends while playing online with them.

He has a lap top, iPod and an iPad but desperately wants a mobile phone. Managing his computer time is my least favourite mothering task. He works me, badgers me, massages my feet and makes me cups of tea, all for a bit more screen time. He is allowed screen time on Friday afternoons and on the weekends. And if I am soft after school one day, but everything has to be done. We use a timer, but shouting is usually involved to disengage the boy from the screen.

B has mastered Minecraft as well as learning swimming, football, karate, scootering, running, bike riding, shooting baskets, boogie boarding and chicken rearing. He loves his chooks and takes the responsibility of letting them out and locking them up extremely seriously. He has an internal alarm at sunset that makes him shout "CHICKENS" as he runs to their aid to lock them up for the night. Several fox sightings and chicken nightmares have etched this responsibility into him.

Little Miss is a different creature altogether. She loves to create- drawing, painting, crafting and general mess making. If she is not engaged in a crafty activity she can usually be found in bed reading.

With a love of all living things and mythical creatures her current favourites are slugs and dragons. (Not what I expected from my daughter) Slugs have been bought into the house through the adventures of SlugTerra, a TV series, iPad game and movie. She knows all about them in a worrying kind of way and adores some slug figurines she has proudly worn on a self-crafted bandoleer.

The Dragon Riders of Berk, from How to Train your Dragon books and movie fame have also captured her heart. Pictures of Toothless are taped up by her bed and owning a couple of dragon toys have started her saving pocket money for more.

Little Miss has mastered the art of swimming, ballet dancing, karate, back-bends, walking while in a back-bend, cartwheels, and one handed cartwheels. She uses a special pet voice when talking to the guinea pigs, and is eager to learn to play netball.

Little Miss  has a special knack for thinking of great names for animals. Orlando is her guinea pig and Little Legs is baby Daddy-long-leg Spider she has adopted for a pet.

Little Miss has sadly not mastered clean up time, tidying her room is like a punishment for her and always brings on some tears.

Well, well, well...how lovely to see a post from my Aussie friend.
Your kids are now 11 & 7 eh.....Charlie and Joseph are 10 & 8.
B sounds exactly like Charlie & Joseph regarding managing computer time and Little Miss is the complete opposite...now that is not a surprise is it!

Loved reading your post CF and it sounds like you enjoyed writing it as well. Your kids will love reading about their childhood when they are adults.

Take care and keep shining.
Hugs

It is great to have you back recording your great/grating life with B and Little Miss. Your parenthood appears to be both normal and stressful as it is for so many Mums. As they grow through childhood, teens and achieve maturity you will experience all the joys and horrors of many parents and then wipe away sad tears of regret when they leave home. This sounds about right!

Hi Peggy
We are all well Thank you so much for thinking of us.
B is now 19 and has moved out of home. He is at Uni studying Graphic Design. He is happy and I miss him dearly. Little Miss is 15 and still loves ballet, she is very busy. I relish her company.
I hope you haven’t been left scarred by Covid and are you’re enjoying life everyday.
Much love Robyn

Hello dear Robyn
What a lovely surprise to read your text this morning.
So pleased B is studying graphic design, it sounds like he is destined to work in that field.
Joseph is almost 17 and it looks like he will be following in B's footsteps after he graduates from Year 12 next year, he hopes to go to Uni to do coding/design.
Joseph is still a lovely boy/man, has lots of empathy and he rings me if we haven't spoken for a while.

Charlie his older brother is 19 and was diagnosed with ADHD when in Year 12. He had been struggling with school work for a couple of years and wanted to leave in Year 11, but fortunately one of his teachers recognised his problem and informed his parents who got him medication/counseling and he made it through Year 12.

Charlie now has an apprenticeship with a security company installing security in offices etc and he finally obtained his driving licence in January 2023 after 3 tries.

Fortunately I didn't catch the COVID bug probably due to the 5 vaccinations and a healthy immune system which I am very grateful.

Been keeping busy volunteering at the Lifeline Bookfairs and supporting my 101 year old Mum who still lives independently in a retirement village not far from me.

Take care my friend.
Big heart hugs
Peggy xxxx
