Last week was my second OB appointment. They were going to try and listen for the heartbeat. I was 11 weeks. With my first two children there were no problems hearing the heartbeat. With Kale I had an ultrasound and with Kate I just don't remember any issues with hearing her. With this one it took awhile for them to find it. After a few tense moments ( I was tense, the midwife wasn't worried at all - she said my uterus was growing just great - I said no kidding...) she found that fast little heartbeat and I couldn't have been more thrilled. Kale didn't quite get it but still thought it was interesting, Kate couldn't have cared less. She was more interested in eating her raisins. I wanted to cry. With so many miscarriages happening to my dear friends I never once thought it couldn't happen to me. In fact I think I kind of distanced myself from feeling pregnant just in case. Hearing the heartbeat just made everything so much more exciting. I was so very thankful that things are going along smoothly so far.
Kale and I watched a Baby story the other day. Don't ask me why, it was just on. He loves seeing the babies, but it does raise interesting questions. Anyway, he asked me how babies get out of their mommies tummies. Um.....good question. Especially since he doesn't totally understand anatomy. He asked me if they were pooped out. Um.....good question. In the end I just said that God gives mommies special ways to get the baby out. That seemed good enough for him. Then he asked if I would stop grunting (like the woman on the show) after the baby was out. I said yes most likely. Needless to say, a Baby Story won't be on much. I just don't think I'm prepared to answer all the questions.

My Awesome Husband
My awesome husband. I have to brag on him for a moment. Yesterday was our anniversary -- number 8. I had been thinking for that past week of what we could do on our anniversary but I just wasn't able to pull anything off. With Mark out of town, then company in town, Kale's birthday and sick children, any romantic evening was just too difficult for me to do. But my awesome husband....He called a babysitter so we could go out to dinner last night at one of our favorite restaurants, Red Snapper. He had the babysitter come at 5:45 and I figured that was because he wouldn't be home until 5:30. Well at 4:30 he showed up with 8 red roses, a bouquet of pink tulips (he knew the florist - an old youth group girl so he got the tulips for free), and a Starbucks coffee. He also had gotten me another shirt. The first one he got was a red t-shirt that he had made for me that says "Welcome to my world". A saying that I like to say to him a lot. The one I got yesterday is a prego shirt that says "Let the love grow". Very cute. He surprised me by being home early and being able to hang out with us all before we left. It was wonderful. I felt very special and loved. He did an awesome job!

Happy Birthday Kale!
Happy Birthday Kale! I can't believe he's 4! His birthday was yesterday and his Transformer birthday party was on Saturday. Unfortunately he was very sick yesterday. He had a fever of 103 and pretty much snuggled and slept on the couch. Not much fun on his actual birthday. Thankfully he was doing great for his party. We had invited 5 of his little friends to come over but only 4 were able to come. There's this horrible sickness going around here so one little guy, Isaiah, didn't make it. But we had a lot of fun with the rest. Mark led some games. They played Optimus Prime says (Simon Says), guess what I transformed into (animal charades) and get the Decepticons (basically stomp on and pop the balloon). They were fun games but of course 4 year olds have short attention spans. Kale had requested Corn Dogs for lunch and a Transformer cake. As you can see from the picture it was more pink and robin's egg blue rather then Optimus Prime red and blue. Oh well, it tasted good. There's also a mini Optimus Prime cake topper -- very cool.
A picture of the wonderful decorations that Aunt Julie and Uncle Mike put up for us. They did an awesome job.
Kate did not want her picture taken and she was telling me what she thought about that.
More party stuff. Kale's enjoying his cake and ice cream.

Overall the party was a lot of fun. Kale got more Transformers to add to his collection. I honestly think he's only missing like one or two. Unbelievable! He also got the movie. I can see that this will a battle in the future. He's already asked to watch it several times.
We (Kale, Kate and I) stayed home from church yesterday. Mark was asked to speak Saturday night. Our pastor had gotten the crud and wasn't doing much but sleeping poor guy. So Mark apparently did a great job. I was bummed I didn't get to hear it. Both Kale and Kate have been sick. I think Kate is on the down side and today Kale seems to be feeling much better. I'm thankful for that! Now I'm praying that Mark and I stay healthy. With as much snot and coughing as we have endured it really will be a miracle if we stay well. But so far so good.
Kale and Kate just emptied a shelf of books and are now stacking them like blocks.
Kale will walk by Kate and look at her funny and it will set her off into a whining moment. Sometimes he thinks he's her boss and other times he just picks on her. Apparently he's a lot like his dad - right Julie? :) Kate on the other hand screams at the drop of a hat, hits him out of frustration and just makes lots of drama. Is that me? Lord I hope not. These kinds of things are just intensified while they are sick.
On the flip side of all that, they both snuggled Mark for over an hour last night. They were exhausted and had fevers and were so precious cuddled up together. Amazing how different they can be at any given moment!

The life of a Work Widow
Do you like the bed? I think it's perfect! This is the bed Mark is sleeping in during his work trip to Phoenix, AZ this week. He left on Monday and is coming home sometime tomorrow. Some very generous people opened their home so he and Seth (another pastor at our church) could stay there for free. A huge blessing. But I'm not sure he's going to want to come home and sleep in our boring old bed. Last night Kale was praying for Mark before bed and he asked God to bless Dad's race car bed. Kale's very jealous.
So like I said, Mark is out of town. This was discussed and decided last Thursday. Plenty of time (not really) to prepare. I was wondering what this was going to be like. Me and the kids....alone....for 4 days....by ourselves....with the dog....and 3 feet of snow....did I mention alone? Just kidding. So far it's been pretty good. I know the kids are getting sick of me. You can only take mom saying no one so many times before you just really want dad to say no instead.
On top of that we have company coming into town tonight I believe. They were scheduled to come in tomorrow but because of the weather are leaving earlier so they hopefully won't be stuck anywhere. That means they may be here late tonight, early tomorrow morning. It's Mark's sister and her husband. We are very much looking forward to them being here. Kale's birthday is on Sunday and his Transformer party is on Saturday and it's neat to be able to have some family here for it. It's just a bummer that Mark is gone right before they get here. Because even though they're family I still want things to be nice ya know? And with my never ending battle of toys, well....I know they'll still love me :) We also need to do some last minute shopping for the birthday stuff.
Kate, as I'm typing, is dressed up in her princess dress I bought for her the day after Halloween for half price. She's spinning in the dining room and singing a made up princess song and looking at a very old Cinderella book. She's an adorable princess.
Before my husband left on his trip I asked him who was going to take care of his dog. Of course I knew he was assuming I was going to do it but that was the whole point - he assumed. You know what that makes you...And bless his heart, he looked at me and said "I assumed you were going to do it" For those of you who don't know the story of how our dog came to this house, basically Mark promised to do everything--and I mean everything. I'm not the dog person in the house for sure. I love my husband very much and wanted to make him happy but I already have 3 children to take care of and I knew that a puppy was going to drain me even more. Mark has kept his word and fed, trained (and continued to train), and walked him, and even has taken him to the vet. He's doing a great job. But I had to give him a hard time as he was leaving me with the dog-alone-for 4 days. I told him to pray that the dog was still here when he came back :)
I'm now 10 weeks into this pregnancy. I'm thrilled to be in the double digits. Only 30 weeks left. UGH! That's forever! But hopefully I'll get some much missed energy back here in a couple weeks. I have a doctor's appointment next Thursday to hear the heartbeat. The kids are going with me. I think Kale will love to hear the baby. I know I will. I kinda feel pregnant but hearing a heartbeat makes everything so much more real. I can't wait.
Well I'm off to go fold laundry, pick up my room, and change the sheets on the bed. Very exciting stuff. Wait a minute...didn't I just do that last week? Oh yeah, I did. Maybe it's not as exciting as I thought.

Like we need more snow!
So we got more snow starting Sunday morning and it finished up (for now) last night. We spent a lot of the day digging out yesterday and several more hours today. Mark has been home the last 2 days because we're unable to drive out of our road. Our neighbors snow plowed our driveway but the road wasn't plowed until this afternoon. And then it was a neighbor's friend who plowed, not the county! Not so great. But we think we're able to make it out tomorrow. We have lots of things going on tomorrow so we're praying that it will work.
We got our dishwasher and stove - thanks to Mark. Home Depot didn't actually deliver either appliance, at least not to our door. They couldn't get to our door! So they have to come back in a few days to pick up the redneck deck for us. At least we got the new ones.
So there's lots of pictures to try and show you the craziness that is our life right now!
This is our stove. I took a picture of the snow to show you how much it snowed since Friday when we put it out on the deck!
Kale and Mark at the end of the driveway trying to dig us out after the plow came by. It's over Mark's head!
Kate walking down the road. It's over her head on either side.
Our buried house. I wanted to show the snow on the roof and the progress Mark had made by lunch. It took a long time.
Kale and Kate climbing the big wall of snow!
Those two little posts are the fence posts that are right next to our driveway on the way to our front door. Almost can't see them.
This is the path I shoveled so our propane guy can get to the propane tank. He's quite picky about his route so I didn't think that going through 3 feet of snow would make him happy.
Kale is checking on our snowman-now snow mound. The snow is nearly up to the windows. That's what Mark's been pushing off the roof! The back deck is in there somewhere also.
Kale walking the propane path. It's more like a tunnel.

This was Mark at lunch time. He finished his food and fell asleep at the table. The last few days have really wiped him out. I'm sure he's looking forward to going back to work:)

So that's the latest snow update. At least until next Monday. That's when it's been predicted that we'll get more snow. Yeah...... :(

You might be a redneck if...
...you have three major appliances on your back deck! (stove, dishwasher and hot water heater)
We are waiting somewhat patiently for the Home Depot delivery team to brave the snowstorm and bring Mama her new stove and dishwasher! They were supposed to be here at nine. I knew that was a long shot even with no snow but now....well I hope it's sometime today. We have huge holes in our kitchen just waiting to be filled :)
