American Heritage Girls
Back in the spring, the big girls joined American Heritage Girls. Have you heard of it? It's sort of like Girl Scouts but with a Christ-centered worldview. Here's the mission statement: American Heritage Girls is the premier national character development organization for girls ages 5-18 that embraces Christian values and encourages family involvement.

Pine Cove | Camp in the City
Last week, Ava Grace went to camp for the first time ever! She had a BLAST!
I went to summer camp every single year from 5th-11th grade. I absolutely loved it, looked forward to it every summer, and made some lasting friendships. I hope my girls will have wonderful memories from camp life too.

My girl had so much fun, but her sisters were lost without her during the day. We are already making plans for Edy to go to day camp next year and AG to try overnight camp. YIKES!

CC End of the Year Celebration
A few weeks ago, we wrapped up our Classical Conversation's year with a big American-themed celebration...
Our CC years are divided into three cycles and this year we focused on American history.

I loved looking at the older kids' (junior high and high schoolers) work. This map was drawn completely by memory. That's impressive!

on TeeVee???
I'm not going to beat around the bush or make excuses--my guilty pleasure is The View. Thank you, DVR! Yesterday on the show, Whoopi asked for viewers to hashtag instagram photos of their summer with the chance that they could be used in a photo collage backdrop during the show.
I selected a few of my summer instagrams and...

I was notified that my pic of the girls warming up after a swim was chosen.

Dancin' Divas
These girls just love to boogie...
Edy's facial expressions coupled with AG's dance moves...priceless!
*can't believe I used the word diva--not a fan, but I guess it works.

Thanks, Miss Fitzgerald!
In one of my previous posts, I promised a video of AG singing "Summertime". I also included a video of Edy singing it. I crack up when she says, "and the cot says, 'Hi!'" (and the cotton is high). And, I couldn't leave out Miss Joyful--she's smiling like crazy and just starting to coo a bit. Enjoy!

MDO Spring Program
Thursday, the girls sang in the MDO Spring Program.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree--AG was in her element...

I didn't record the actual program (Graham was in the back with his camera), but here's a little exerpt from rehersal. (far cry from the actual program)

After the program, we enjoyed some refreshments. Everyone (and by everyone, I mean everyone) stopped by to tell AG how well she sang. She ate it up and later I spotted her "working the room" by walking the perimeter and letting people dote on her! She's a ham!
I don't want to leave Edy out--she did good too. She sang occasionally and did her hand motions occasionally and really didn't care that her big sister's performance was getting OSCAR and TONY award-winning buzz.

I've been meaning to post this video since Easter. It's too cute...

Christ the Lord is Risen Today!
Hallelujah! Christ Arose!
I love to sing, especially songs about my Lord and Savior. At bedtime, I sing to my girls...usually a hymn packed full of Biblical truth. My girls love it--they both share my love of music and singing. *Very soon I'll need to post a video of them singing the Doxology. It's so sweet.*
Here's my sweet Edy Rose singing Charles Wesley's, "Christ the Lord is Risen Today". She has some lyrical issues (and wants no help from me), but she blesses my heart singing this wonderful hymn.

But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death,
because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. Acts 2:24

a little vacay (1)
This week, we have been relaxing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It's been nice to get away and have some much needed family time.
We headed out Sunday right after church...
BABE'S has a unique way of celebrating birthdays. Aunt Ann and Aunt Dorothy weren't with us for Edy's 3rd birthday so we had a little celebration the BABE'S way! Check out the video. It's really cute!

AG's vlog
Remember a few weeks ago, I attempted my first vlog. Soon after I finished recording, AG brought me her iPod to watch her very own Christmas Home Tour.
I'll warn you, it might make you a little dizzy and it gets super silly towards the end, but it gave us a good laugh!

My first 'vlog'?
Yes, this is my first vlog. Well, I guess it's a vlog. It's a video commentated by yours truly posted on my blog. Does that count?
Some of you are going to scoff when you see my video's topic: Christmas Home Tour. Go ahead, scoff away! I make no excuses. I like this time of year. You will never hear me say, "Can you believe that Walmart already has their Christmas stuff up?" Nope, not gonna happen. I LOVE IT!
*Okay, one excuse I decorate our church so it's nice to have mine finished so I don't have to cram in a bunch of decorating after Thanksgiving.
I had to post it on YouTube because Vimeo wouldn't allow more than 500MB. You won't be able to view the video in Reader. If you want to check it out, you'll have to visit my actual blog. Here it is:
So....what did you think? Not about my skills as a videographer or my accent or my ramblings. What did you think about the video on the blog thing? What about the Christmas decor?
I am looking forward to all of my blog buddies' Christmas home tours. They're always fun for everyone.
In a few weeks, I'll be posting pics of our home, possibly the outside too, and linking up on the tours. Looking forward to it!
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!!!!!!!!!

School @ Home
Today was the day! I already posted our 'first day' pics so this post is going to be devoted to our daily schedule, curriculum, and a short video at the end.
This morning, we started school around 9:15. We got started a little late due to our school pictures.First, we began with The Pledge of Allegiance, The Pledge to the Texas flag, calendar and weather, Bible/memory verse, Reading, Phonics, Handwriting, Math, Art, and then review.
In an earlier post, I wrote about reading The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home. I suggest anyone that is contemplating homeschooling to read this book. Very informative, empowering, and a ton of resources. If you are wanting to research classical teaching methods, it's a great resource.
In WTM (The Well-Trained Mind), the authors suggests several books for teaching students that are in the trivium stage (grammar, logic, and rhetoric) of learning (beginning learners).
Here's a list of the different books we are using. I got them all on Amazon for very inexpensive.
ART: Draw.Write.Now.
BIBLE: The Bible (KJV for memorization purposes), The Jesus Story Book Bible, The ABC's of Church History
MATH: Saxon math and manipulatives, workbook supplements from Dollar Tree, flashcards
PHONICS: Modern Curriculum Press Level A Phonics
READING: The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading, workbook, BOB books supplements/flashcards
SCIENCE: From Mudpies to Magnets
For Edy, I got several books on shapes, numbers, counting, letters, and flashcards to give her something to keep her actively learning while I am working with AG. She participated in our morning routines, songs, rhymes, and memory verse, too.
For now, this is the plan. I'm sure that over time things will change.
Check out this video of AG learning her short vowel A poem:

AG's birthday
On AG's actual bday, the girls woke us up bright and early for more birthday fun. We still had a few gifts from us and the grandparents to open.
I love all of these shots of AG opening her gift from us, but Edy is cracking me up. Look at her--her expressions make me smile.
AG got a beautiful ring from us. She loves it.
From the grandparents and great-grandparents: new backpack and lunchbox, dance clothes/bag, money, Chuck E. Cheese gift card.
*Yes, I'm homeschooling, but two days a week I am going to be teaching pre-school and because AG is a very young five year old, she and Edy will be going with me.
*AG is starting ballet/jazz this fall.
*She also got some money to help pay for her soccer fees. (Yep, she wants to play again this year!)
Birthday girl!
Headed to La Fonda del Sol (best breakfast in town) for birthday breakfast as a family
One birthday gift was season passes to The Discovery Science Place in Tyler. This is awesome because the passes get us in to a ton of museums around the country. For a fun birthday celebration, we went as a family to the science center.
Then, we headed to Chuck E. Cheese...
I think AG had an awesome 5th birthday. Don't you?
Check out this video of my girls dancing with Chuck E. It's pretty cute.
