Review:
The magic remains the same.
A generation after they last performed a full concert together, the surviving members of the legendary Led Zeppelin made what can only be called a triumphant return to the stage at London's O2 Arena last night. Playing for a sold-out crowd of devotees, VIPs and media from around the world, the band -- 59-year-old singer Robert Plant, 61-year-old bassist John Paul Jones and 63-year-old guitarist Jimmy Page, joined by late drummer John Bonham's 41-year-old son Jason -- proved beyond doubt that despite their age, they still wield the hammer of the gods.
Sure, Zep may have been your daddy's rock band, but make no mistake: The British blues-metal icons brought enough swagger, sweat and sheer walloping power to blow most of today's young turks out of the water. They were greeted like the heroes they are by the wildly enthusiastic crowd of nearly 20,000, who had paid #125 each (about $250 Cdn) for tickets to the concert after beating out millions of fans in an online lottery.
From the opening moments, it was clear they were going to get their money's worth -- and that they were bearing witness to the biggest comeback in rock history. Kicking off the evening with Good Times Bad Times -- the first song from their debut '69 album -- the band burned through a high-energy 130-minute set that drew from nearly every album in their decade-long career.
Detractors and naysayers who suggested the band might not be able to deliver the same show they did decades ago were quickly proven wrong. Though his hair is now a silver tangle of mad-scientist curls instead of black locks, Page was still every inch the ultimate guitar god, peeling off blistering solos and showing no ill effects from the broken left pinky that delayed the show by two weeks.
A goateed Plant was in equally stellar form -- even if he sang the odd note in a slightly lower register than the banshee wail of his youth. Jones and Bonham held down the bottom end as if they had been playing together for years, with the latter doing a magnificent job of echoing the sound and style of his great father.
The production itself was no slouch, either, with the group backed by a stage-wide video screen and bathed under washes of light from a giant spider-like rig. You could quibble that it didn't equal the sprawling three-hour shows they used to put on, but as someone who saw them back in the day, let me tell you they were never this tight. And the sound and lights were never this good. And this time, we didn't have to sit through a half-hour drum solo. By the time it wrapped up after a smoking version of Rock and Roll, the fans most certainly had not had enough.
We can only hope the band feels the same way.

Thin Lizzy & Qween: Seattle 1977 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

qtl76front
Title : Live in Seattle
Venue : Seattle Center Coliseum, Seattle, Washington, USA
Date : 13. March 1977
Lineage : master reel @ full track mono (Tandberg Model 11 R2R deck, Sony ECM-22P
microphone) > Wavelab (wav24/96 > wav16/44) > FLAC > WAV > Cool Edit Pro
(equalisation) > WAV > FLAC
Taper : JEMS
Quality : Excellent -

Musicians :
Thin Lizzy
----------
Philip Lynott - bass guitar, vocals
Brian Downey - drums
Scott Gorham - guitar
Gary Moore - guitar

Queen
-----
Freddie Mercury - lead vocals, piano, tambourine
Brian May - electric guitar, backing vocals, acoustic guitar, banjo
Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals, tambourine
John Deacon - bass guitar, triangle

Notes: Thin Lizzy
An excellent sounding but incomplete JEMS master recording. This show captures Thin Lizzy touring in support of the Johnny The Fox album as an opener for Queen. Unfortunately the recording is incomplete because only one reel was put aside to tape the opener this night and once it ran out that was it. This is one bad ass recording and balls out performance that captures the energy and passion of a live Thin Lizzy show during what later was coined their classic era.

Queen
Yet another in a long line of JEMS master recordings. This recording captures Queen touring in support of the A Day At The Races album in superb sound quality. Unless our research is incorrect this is the first time(June 2009) this recording has never been circulated complete (previous known versions are missing Tie Your Mother Down, Stone Cold Crazy and Keep Yourself Alive), in the correct running order and from a non LP bootleg source.

OU Remaster:
A copy of this recording was released on LP bootlegs, this is the first time when the original complete recording comes out. Unfortunately this master copy sounds much worse then the LP bootleg, which is pretty unusual. The original master was really heavy in the bottom end, while the LPs sound really clean.
That's why I played with the equalisation a bit in Cool Edit Pro, the result sounds much better to my ears. If you're one of the people who don't like making any changes to the masters, especially equalisation, this remaster is definitely NOT for you. However if you prefer clean sound, enjoy this one.
I have also re-edited the tracks, because Jailbreak and Brighton Rock were originally split into 3 parts, and the rock'n'roll medley was in one file, now it's split more logically.

Tracklist :
Disc 1
1. Jailbreak
2. Massacre
3. Esmerald
4. Still In Love With You
5. Warriors
6. Don't Believe A Word
7. Cowboy Song

11. White Queen (As It Began)
12. Somebody To Love

The 1978 US Tour Rehearsals (27th May - 8th June, 1978) Bearsville Studio,
Woodstock, NY, USA
This is a direct copy of a silver disc I have entitled "The Rolling Stones In Woodstock - 1978 Tour Rehearsals" on the Mighty Diamond Records Catalog-Nr: MD 2007
This is what the information on the inside sleeve of the recording says:
"Prior to their 1978 US Tour from late May to early June the Rolling Stones took up residence for approximately two weeks in the tiny village of Woodstock in upstate New York at Todd Rundgren's Bearsville Studio for rehearsals (like normal bands do)
They were joined by Sugar Blue on harp and Ian McLagen on keyboards. During these sessions they not only rehearsed material from their latest LP's they also tried out some nifty Rock n Roll/blues numbers from way back when.
And yes they even did the odd rarity "C...sucker Blues" and briefly laid their sweaty hands on early Jagger/Richards compositions like Play With Fire and Tell Me.
Plus it's all in Glorious studio soundboard stereo!"
Not a lot I can add about this recording other than it's fantastic quality and if you like the Rolling Stones you'll love this gem.
As always share freely but never sell.
The Stones are still an active touring band so support them by buying their merchandise and take in a gig or two.
Hope you enjoy it

David Bowie: The Legendary Lost Tapes 1972-73 (Live/Studio) FLAC

Studio & Live Recordings
Lineage: SilverCD--> EAC(secure)--> Flac(level.8)--> HungerCity!
THE LEGENDARY LOST TAPES
The second issue of this material and it is a straight copy of the CD THE LEGENDARY TRIDENT SESSIONS (1998). Even if this CD is a copy of the original CD, the sound quality is a little bit better! -BASSMAN

THE LEGENDARY TRIDENT SESSIONS
Wow! Amazing stuff! A rumour has been circulating that Lou and David joined Mott at at least one session during the recording of the "All The Young Dudes" album, while they were recording Lou's "Transformer" album. Here is the proof. Bowie sings ALL THE YOUNG DUDES and Lou sings SWEET JANE. They also participate on most of the other songs, playing guitar, sax or singing back up vocals. I had a tape of this session before, and I can't understand why the running order has been changed? The sound quality is excellent, but a little bit distorted (just as on the original tape!). The Glasgow show is remastered, and the sound quality is actually very good! The boring thing is that it isn't complete, and according to the cover the cuts between the songs comes from the the original tape. That isn't true! I have the tape and it doesn't feature any other cuts than the cut between side A and B. I also doubt that ROCK'N'ROLL SUICIDE is from the Glasgow show? I have never heard of any tape that lasts longer than SUFFRAGETTE CITY. Even the songs are roughly cut on the CD, not only the space of time between them! There are two missing songs, and they are LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER / THE JEAN GENIE / THE WIDTH OF A CIRCLE should have come after FIVE YEARS. Anyway, because of the Mott session this is a great disc.

The Atlanta Concert
by Tony Barrow
Daylight is fading and an illuminated digital clock on a billboard high above the stands shows the time to be 6:21pm. This might be any one of a dozen vast outdoor venues this tour is scheduled to visit. It happens to be Atlanta Stadium, the first American concert outside New York, on Wednesday August 18, Day Six in my diary.
Floodlighting has just been switched on. There are three tiers of stand seating around the sides of the field, one at ground level and others raised quite high. At present most of the seats are empty but Beatle people are starting to trickle in through at least twenty entrances.
The stage area is deserted save for a pair of lonely figures, those of Ira and Mal, making a final equipment check. It is a make-shift stage, set up just for tonight in the middle of the field. It consists of scaffolding, boards, white canvas and an unusually high rostrum for Ringo. It is uncovered so that rain, if any, will fall directly upon the musical and electrical gear making it all deadly dangerous. It is also unlit. There will be no special effects in that department, just a few powerful spotlights.
The Sounds Incorporated drum kit is in position where Ringo will sit for the second half. A large sign lights up at one end of the field: WELCOME! HAVE A GOOD TIME, MAKE AS MUCH NOISE AS YOU WISH BUT FOR SAFETY'S SAKE STAY IN YOUR SEATS.
The sound system consists of a cluster of large speakers in wooden boxes out on the field, pointing at different stands. Another sign reads: BASEBALL HERE THURSDAY 8:00, ATLANTA-TOLEDO. Now the clock reads 6:17 pm and it is amazing how swiftly the stand seats are filling up.

UNOBSERVED
John appears in a dug-out to inspect the pre-show situation from ground level. Only his black cap is visible above ground so he remains unobserved by the fans. Neil points out the positions of the speakers, indicates the tunnel the Beatles will emerge from and makes sure John realizes the distance the group must run between there and the stage. At the end of the concert, instead of running back and risking a mobbing, the boys will pile into a limousine or maybe an ambulance or even a catering company truck which will be kept just behind the stage with it's engine running from the moment Neil gives a cue that the Beatles are beginning their last number. There is never an encore, never an unscheduled extra song, never a second's delay in the departure.
Three lines of police barriers have been set up between the stands and the field. Cops and stadium security guards pace up and down in the areas between the yellow wooden barriers which carry POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS signs. Other, drawn in from an entirely different department for the occasion say: BUREAU OF SANITATION.
George joins John in the dugout, and spots a lot of advertising. There is a Coca-Cola sign by the stage and an enormous billboard for Midas Mufflers to the rear. Ira explains that these are fixtures aimed at baseball fans as much as concertgoers. No the local concert promoter won't be getting any extra revenue from those signs tonight, George.
Now several deejays find their way into the same dugout as the two Beatles. It's getting a bit crowded. It's the cue for Jon and George to retreat promptly to their dressing room until showtime.

BACKSTAGE
The backstage accommodation for the Beatles is not like any traditional theatrical dressing room. Like most of the rooms we're to encounter on the tour, it's basically a baseball team's changing room and looks exactly what it is. Tables have been put in and piles of cellophane covered food lie on then, dehydrating quickly in the hot and humid atmosphere. It's a terrible environment to test instruments and George has to give up any hope of tuning in his guitars properly.
There are half a dozen 'cots' in the room. These are what we call 'camp beds', not the type of thing we have in a baby's nursery! Ringo loves the use of the word 'cot' when he hears it for the first time, leaps onto one, curls up and sucks his thumb noisily.
Because of the clammy greenhouse atmosphere, the boys change for the stage at the very last minute. Mal hands a set of gleaming white shirts to Ira for distribution. He returns from some ironing room he's either discovered or created for himself with pressed suits, the dark material contrasting well with the brilliantly white cuffs and collars which will show from beneath.
Otherwise, everyone else is in shirt sleeves or t-shirts throughout the gig. All but Eppy, immaculate as ever in a superbly cut suit, but sweating more that slightly in his efforts to maintain his pristine visual image. His G.A.C. colleagues know the American summer climate and baseball park changing rooms too well to soak their best suits in sweat. There's no air-conditioning here and the giant fan Paul called for earlier is useless unless you stand directly in front of it.
"These suits are much more comfortable than the military jackets, Bri" comments Paul.
John joins in quickly: "The military jackets are last. They come much too high up at the collar, they get all 'round your neck."
Paul explains: "The trouble is they ruffle up behind our guitar straps and don't look very nice by the end of the act."
Brian Epstein makes mental notes and reminds everyone in the room that it's another quick getaway tonight. From the venue to the airfield, back onto the American Flyers Electra and off to the next city.
This is by far the best time to move on, straight after a show. The group relaxes in the aircraft, changes clothing, winds down, waits for the rest of the show people in the bus to catch up. When everyone is on boar, it's a midnight flight and a two or three o'clock arrival at our next hotel. This reduces crowd problems at airports to a minimum.
Tonight, coming out of Atlanta and fling directly to Houston, the plan to avoid the fans misfires. Even in the middle of the night, a number of particularly keen Beatle people are swarming all over our aircraft as we taxi towards the terminal building at Houston. It is quite frightening because some of those kids are smoking and our engines are still running. One of the lads suggests we take off again and give a prize to the last fans left clinging to each wing as the plane gains height. Yes, it was only a joke.....

Madonna: Sticky & Sweet Tour 2009 SKY Broadcast Pro-Shot DVD

the only one for the weekend but it is a big one AND a good one.
Madonna+Sticky++Sweet+Tour+2009+madonna_500x700
I am not a huge Madonna fan but I have always been a little intrigued by her ever since I worked in a record shop in Minneapolis in the early 80's.
I have watched this DVD and she is still an amazing performer. There is dancing, enormous theatrics and great camera work throughout.
If you or someone you know like Madonna then this would be a "must have".
The DVD is TRULY excellent quality. This is recorded from digital TV, not an AVI file. The quality is very good - best around so far until HD appears. -Dave

DVD includes chapters to each song but no other extras, just the whole show in excellent quality.

The files are the raw bits of a DVD. You should only have to burn them to a blank DVD to get a playable DVD. No conversion is required. Rar Files are packed with 4% recovery for dependability. MD5 included.

Pink Floyd: Scotland 1971 (VG- Aud) FLAC

Scotland 1971-05-18 Filtered Plus 16/44
As noted, only higher gen recordings of this show have surfaced thus far. Alot of higher gen hiss has built up copy after copy. When viewing the recording in a spectrum analyzer, its readily apparent where the later copies contributed the easily removed portion of the hiss. So I shaped a FFT filter designed to remove this built up generational hiss. After listening to various samples and toggling back and forth and fine tuning it, I settled on a setting that I was comfortable was not removing any content or nuance in the recording. The exact settings were different for each cassette side but essentially I used an arc starting at about 10k and ending at 11.75k at -15db, then a straight cut from there. The result is perhaps a 20% reduction of hiss.
I also applied some minor gain changes throughout to address some of the suttle level changes that occur occasionally. These were almost all within 0.5db to 2db.
I also used the PEQ to increase the level slightly at ~2k-3k by ~1.5db. This created a bit more open sound. All of these changes are intended to make this source a little more enjoyable to listen to for those who appreciate this show even though its a relatively weak recording.

Lineage: Cassette (Maxell XLII 90) > Nakamichi 581 > Edirol UA-1EX > Audacity 1.3 > Wav (24bit/96kHz) ----> Samplitude10 (32bit/96kHz) > Wav (16bit/44kHz) > CDWave (1.98) > FLAC
***Neonknight's Notes***
I obtained the cassette used for this transfer from a experienced Danish collector in the mid 1990s. A couple of people I have shared it with previously commented that they believe it to be clearer and found the instrument definition better. As with all versions, "A Saucerful Of Secrets" cuts before the Celestial Voices Sequence. I provided Littlepieces with a 24bit/96kHz wave file so he could adjust the speed and make other corrections.
***Littlepieces' Mastering Notes***
The objective was to make the necessary corrections with a minimum amount of processing iterations using the highest quality settings. This is a mono recording that was processed as two channel stereo as is often the case. It has a small variable phase shift throughout. Also, most of the time, the left channel was lower than the right channel. The best solution for these things, given this is a mono recording, is to eliminate the inferior left channel. No more phase shift and no more channel level differences.
I removed some repeated segments, and manually removed over 150 pops/noises and more than 20 micro dropouts (most being from 12-20ms), and then speed corrected. There were segments where a series of these micro dropouts were adjacent to one another and therefore not all of them could be removed. This left a segment during the 8th minute of FOS a little bumpy for a very short time. Also there are a few small tape drags sprinkled throughout.
All versions of this show that have surfaced are higher gens. Underneath the high hiss level is a great performance.

*************************************************************************************
***Neonknight's Background Information For This Show***
Nobody seems to have any idea who made the concert recording. Included in the list of people I have consulted about its origins is Lord Snooty. I asked him about it a while back and he noted that it had always been a bit of a mystery. LS received a copy in the mid 70's under the title of 'Strathclyde 1971' and looking back at some of his records could find no mention of Stirling or a date for many years. He couldn't recall when or why it was changed to Stirling 1971-05-18 and has never found a known lineage.
Tickets were sold far and wide for the gig but to the best of my knowledge no photos exist from the concert. So working on the assumption that what we are offering here is Stirling and not University of Strathclyde, Glasgow 1971-05-20, I will try and give you a picture of what it was like.
The stage, a temporary construction, was about 30ft by 10ft, wooden and totally covered by the band’s equipment. To the right was the group’s chau gong. At the back was a large steel installation by Mary Martin which can still be seen at the University. It must have provided a very striking backdrop (try looking up Mary Martin on google). The audience was really packed in but in keeping with the time most people sat cross-legged in their tiny amount of floor space as they enjoyed the sound spiralling around the room and the light show.
I sometimes see comments about the size of the venue possibly affecting the sound quality of the tape. I think that either the original recording equipment was the problem or the taper had their microphone concealed under clothing, possibly a coat, and they got in a better position for songs such as Set The Controls. The refectory was intimate but the ceiling was not particularly low, as I have seen some people suggest, and overall the room was short and wide so there shouldn’t have been an issue with the taper being distant from the stage. There were windows all around the room and they weren’t blacked out.
The MC for the evening and principal concert organiser was Paul Martin. For an interesting description of gigs at Stirling University in its early days after being founded in 1967 see Paul’s account at: http://www.anniversary.stir.ac.uk/memories/students/paul-martin.php

At the webpage Paul says:
"We soon also realised that by utilising University facilities, we could lay on sufficient facilities for up to 1,000 people attending a single concert. This kind of firepower at even £1.00 per ticket allowed us to consider booking bands that would otherwise not consider the student circuit... with some funds in the bank we then hired Pink Floyd on May 3rd 1971 who performed Atom Heart Mother in its entirety.”
I think the tickets for the Floyd cost £1.50 and you'll note the incorrect reference to 3 May.
Paul Martin explains: "We paid them £1,000 pounds exactly for their performance with two £500 notes which they said were using as pocket money for a golfing holiday in Scotland." A rest in the Highlands must have been much-welcomed after a long and hectic period touring. The offer of £1000 was approximately £600 more than the University had paid for any other group.
He goes on: “The line up was David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason; they were mixed by a Scottish artist Ron Geesin, who had produced AHM, and he also did a short set on the night." Ron Geesin, like now, was a crowd pleaser and compelling according to a couple of accounts I have read. He apparently wandered onstage in overalls that he had been wearing all day and delivered some monologues much like the ones that he did at Cadogan Hall in 2008, then after a very short set left to rapturous applause.
Before the main event various student newspapers wanted to interview the band, so a room was duly set up but the plug had to be pulled because some of the would-be journalists were apparently being over-aggressive towards the group. Topping the day off nicely Edinburgh’s Student magazine apparently asked Roger’s favourite question: “Who exactly is Pink Floyd and what does he do?” It would have been good to be in the room to hear the answer.

Slowing Down (a little) for Vacation

41_05_11---Slow-Down_web
Hi Friends,
I will be going on vacation the first couple of weeks of August. I still want to keep the boots flowing so starting Friday I will be posting three a day. That way I can "stock up" a little and give you something fresh each day even though I'll be gone.
I will try to have three a day (or more if possible) every day until August 11. By then I hope to keep a brisker pace and keep more smiles on more faces!
There may be a bootleg or two in the archives that you may wish to catch up on.
Happy downloading.

Source notes: I got this as an shn set from a trading buddy. It came with no source info, just a track listing. The recording sounded very very good already. The extreamly low level of hiss makes my think this was recorded on a Reel to Reel. I'm not sure if this was recorded off the radio or pre-FM. I'm leaning towards a pre-FM KSAN vault leak because of the excellent sonic quality. However, that's just a guess.
Remastering notes: The only thing I really did was tame some of the audience applause and Jimmy's banter. This was recorded with an extreme amount of audience able to be heard in the small club. It sounds as if they mic'ed the crowd to get the comments between songs. They boosted up Jimmy’s voice levels and turned the audience mic on and off as Jimmy finished and started songs. The difference was quite noticeable in places. The songs were actually softer in volume then the banter. The banter and applause were so loud in parts it hurt my ears after jamming to the songs at high volume. I had to keep lowering the volume between songs and turn it back up during the songs. The contrast was quite offensive. I tamed the applause and banter sections and boosted the gain on some of the songs at the beginning to make it more even and more pleasurable to listen to without constantly needing to change the volume. Towards the end the songs got louder, so I only boosted the first few songs. But the banter and applause were offensively loud throughout.

Mark Knopfler: Royal Albert Hall 2008 (VG++ Aud) FLAC

1024_3
28th May, 2008.
Mark Knopfler - guitar, vocals
John McCusker - fiddle, cittern, flutes
Matt Rollings - keyboards, vocals
Danny Cummings - drums, percussion
Guy Fletcher - keyboards, guitars, vocals
Richard Bennett - guitar, etc.
Glenn Worf - bass, vocals
Joe Brown - Guitar & vocals, CD2, tracks 1 & 2.

OU Notes: This is my own recording from row 14, center in the arena floor. As far as I know, this show hasn't surfaced yet. I've checked Dime & Hungercity regularly hoping it would appear, but it hasn't, so here's my recording.
It's probably a 9/10, with a very focused sound. The vocal is up-front & defined, except for Sultans Of Swing where I think the mic volume wasn't raised to accommodate the increased volume of the band.
The guitar rings through as clear as a bell & the ambience of the venue adds a richness to the overall sound, without washing out the sound too much. I'm very pleased with it & hope you will be too.
The Joe Brown tracks are a nice addition & it was good to see him appear as a surprise guest. Funnily enough, I've seen Mark & Joe play Donegan's Gone twice at the Albert Hall (1st time was at the Lonnie Tribute Concert in 2004).
I'll also be at Joe's show at the RAH in September at which Mark will be a guest, and no doubt they'll play it again!
Feel free to distribute & torrent how & where you want to, the music is yours.
Just don't sell it!

David Bowie: Ahoy 1990 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

Front
Rotterdam, Sport Paleis Ahoy 30.03.90.
2CD
POP TUNES PT 316CD
OU Notes:
What can I say about this disc other than if you are a Bowie fan then this is a really nice release indeed.
It is a direct copy of a double silver disc set I have entitled "Sound And Vision", which was recorded live at Rotterdam, Sport Paleis Ahoy 30.03.90.
It is on the POP TUNES Record label Cat No PT 316, and I bought it many moons ago at a UK record Fair and it cost me £25 (the price tag is still on the cd case).
This is what Bassman has to say about this recording:
"COMMENTS: This is the CD issue of the LP SOUND + VISION (1991). The sound quality is excellent, just like the show itself! This CD is said to be rather limited, but I have no idea of how many copies that were released? The flyer has the same pictures as on the cover. A very nice CD!"
The address on the above mentioned flyer of "Pop tunes" is Rue De Cap, D'Antibes23 - 75019 Paris France. Furthermore it says the cd was/is "Made In France"
The sound as Bassman says is excellent and to be honest it is really good. I'm not sure if it's a radio broadcast, a soundboard recording or just an exceptionally good audience recording it is so very hard to tell. But I would rate the sound at a very solid 8/10.
Furthermore it catches Bowie on his "farewell tour" in 1990, before forming "Tin Machine".
The setlist is basically a greatest hits setlist, and I can never understand to this day, why an official release from this tour has never been released, as some of the shows were recorded.
So as fans we'll have to make do and mend with recordings such as this, and another one which I have in the pipeline!
As always share freely but never sell. Bowie is a current recording artist so support him by buying his official cd's, merchandise, and take in a gig or two as and when he tours again.
I hope you enjoy it. Cheers

OU Comments: Here is an excellent audience capture of Bonnie at the Majestic Theater.
This theater has definately better than average acoustics. She sounded great this tuesday evening, or "schoolnight" as Bonnie mentioned. She has a top notch band and sound. The crowd was enthusiastic and well behaved. We really enjoyed this show, and hope you do as well.

Pink Floyd: Hollywood Bowl 1972 (Recorders 1 & 2) shn

Sirene-060-F
Date:September 22nd, 1972
RoIO: "Damn Braces, Bless Relaxes" - Sirene-060
Venue:Hollywood Bowl
Place:Hollywood, CA, USA

Lineage ->Original Factory Pressed (4) Silver CDS & (1) DVD - Sirene-060
Disc 1 & 2 - Rec. 2, Disc 3 & 4 - Rec. 1
& Bonus NTSC DVD - 8mm Footage presents fragments of the concert filmed from the audience. It is dark, fuzzy and out of sync with the music. None of the songs are presented complete. The people by the camera talk too much at the beginning of the show, making the observation that the stage looks like a spaceship. But given the scarcity of such material it’s good enough and captures some very dramatic images like the dark and smoky stage during “Echoes” and the above mentioned fireworks display. (NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE IT IS CRAP)

Description:Limited Collectors Edition Set of Pink Floyd`s Super Fantastic
Hollywood Bowl Show from `72!

Discs (1) and (2) utilize the second recording(Rec.2). This is a complete, excellent, dynamic tape from the audience. It most recently appeared on Crackers on the Zeus label. The only weakness with the Zeus release is the bass which had a lot of rumble and distortion present. The worst is in “One Of These Days” where the bass overloaded the rest of the music and made the track almost unlistenable. Sirene, by comparison, have tackled this issue by smoothing the bass line and diminishing its volume. “One Of These Days” on this new release doesn’t have the problems on the Zeus and sounds phenomenal. It’s clear and powerful and one of the most effective versions captured on tape.

Discs (3) and (4) contain the first tape(Rec.1), the one that surfaced many years ago and is the source for the famous three LP set Crackers on TARKL(3969). It differs from the first tape source by emphasizing the top end, not having any significant dropouts or cuts, and by not being complete. This taper missed the opening of the show and ”Breathe” was edited from a soundboard from the February 20th Rainbow show. Sirene were able to find a virgin copy of the LP since there really is no evidence of its origin.

Qween: Puebla, Mexico 1981 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

qpm81d1-front
Puebla, Mexico
Estadio Cuauhtemoc
October 17, 1981

This is a mix of two sources from the first night in Puebla. There are still a few parts missing between songs, but this is most likely the best quality and most complete version of this concert we'll ever hear. About 95% of the show comes from an almost excellent first generation tape, and I filled in the gaps with an inferior source. The better source was shared at Queenzone last year in mp3, but luckily I managed to track down the lossless version.

Source 1 lineage: AUD > Master > 1st generation tape > WAV > CDR (1) > WAV > FLAC frontend (level 8)
Source 2 lineage: AUD > Master > cassette (x) > WAV > CDR (x) > WAV > FLAC frontend (level 8)

Disc 1:
Speech
Overture
We Will Rock You (fast)
Let Me Entertain You
Play The Game
Somebody To Love
Killer Queen
I'm In Love With My Car
Get Down, Make Love
Save Me
Now I'm Here
Dragon Attack
Now I'm Here (reprise)
Love Of My Life

Disc 2:
Keep Yourself Alive
Drum Solo
Guitar Solo
Flash
The Hero
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Bohemian Rhapsody
Tie Your Mother Down
Another One Bites The Dust
We Will Rock You
We Are The Champions
God Save The Queen

Priceless moments: During the middle of NIH, Freddie reacts to the rowdy audience throwing shoes at the band: "Feels like bloody Chelsea Cobbler, I tell you!" (for those who don't know, Chelsea Cobbler is a men's shoe store in London). And at the end of the show, he says "Thank you for the shoes! Adios amigos, you motherf^ckers! You bunch of tacos, goodbye!" However, it's worth noting that on the second night, these were his closing words: "Thank you for being a totally different audience tonight. We all thank you." The stories often circulate that Queen's concerts in Mexico were horrible for the band, but the bootlegs reveal that it was just the one concert in Puebla that gave them problems. Fans who attended the Monterrey show have also said their concert went smoothly. As for what happened in Mexico outside the concert venues, that's another story!

Beetles: Interview 1966 for Print article *ALL 4 BEATLES TALK* (Pre-FM) FLAC

beatles-mug
This next offering is an open reel tape recording of all 4 Beatles together in March of 1966 from "Radio Caroline"?? talking about EVERYTHING!!!
Paul is still with Jane Asher and won't comment on possible engagement plans with her. They keep asking though and he is holding firm.
This guys asks them all when they first had sex.... he is good and having fun with this.
Does Ringo change Zakk's nappies?
They are planning to record, and I might assume that the tour is over. But it might be over by this time. They do sound a little stoned and they are having fun.
This is a VERY CLEAN recording and is wonderful. This journalist is so much better than so many of the idiots that had the opportunity to talk to the Beatles. I hope you enjoy this rare little gem!! And it is REALLY FUNNY!!!
The Facts:
Lineage: Open Reel Tape > ? > Silver CD > EAC > FLAC 8 > you
Interview runs 21 mins and was taped at "The Captains Kitchen?" for the "Music Disc" paper. At least that is what they say at the start. There are many words spoken about "Radio Coroline", and a bumber at the end of the recording. They could after all be in Abbey Road and the whole "Beatles being in the radio studio" could be all these radio guys could get. I have not listened to this all the way through and there might be a clue as to where they really are!!
This is short, but where are you going to find a 1966 interview with all 4 Beatles??

OU Comments: First time at this venue in San Antonio. The acoustics at this auditorium are better than average IMHO. We were near the front of the 1st balcony, just stage left of center...nice sound from there. The crowd was excited, and behaved well around us. These guys put on a good show, So here is a nice capture of their current tour. We enjoyed this performance, hope you do as well!
