OU: I was browsing on my masters and found this one. Since I uploaded a PFM show last time I could not resist to select something from the other great italian progressive band of the 70's, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso. Where PFM is based on the orchestral side with an accent to the instrumental side of music, Banco is centered on Francesco Di Giacomo's magniloquent vocals. Untill the early 90's they had two keyboard players (Nocenzi bros) and today only Vittorio is still in the band, assuring both piano and keyboards parts.
Featured here is a great sounding show recorded at RAI studios (Italian Public Radio) and broadcasted live. Some 7 years ago already (it seems like yesterday). If you like italian prog you cannot miss Banco. Here they play mostly material from the 70's with some masterpieces from their great album "Darwin". Soundwise this is stellar and comes from my own recording straight from the radio!

"In the world of Bruce Springsteen concerts, some nights seem earmarked as special before the first note is even played. Whether it's a birthday show or the last concert of a lengthy stand, sometimes you just get a hunch. There weren't many good hunches flying around after Thursday's standard set, filmed by a professional crew. So Saturday night at Giants Stadium (night 9 of 10, if you're keeping score) caught quite a few folks off guard as Springsteen raised the stakes and had the crowd raising their hands in joy, gratitude, and disbelief. As the filming continued--with still no official word as to why--Bruce and the band busted out of the gate with the ultra-rare "Janey, Don't You Lose Heart," and established new possibilities for a Rising Tour that is most likely a month away from wrapping. Eleven songs not played the night before, ten songs in the encores, two special guests, tour premieres, rarities, dedications...this one had it all. Highlights (and there were many) included "Trapped," "Roll of the Dice," "Because the Night," and the second appearance of "Pretty Flamingo" since 1978. Springsteen dedicated the main-set closer "Thunder Road" to the family and memory of Jim Berger, who was killed in the September 11 tragedy. Emmylou Harris joined Bruce for a poignant "Across the Border," and the Philadelphia-based band Marah helped out on "Raise Your Hand." A special night for many, this seemed to be the show that said, "Hang on Philly, Jersey's back in town!"" -backstreets.com

Well we hope that you have enjoyed all of the Steely Dan/Donald Fagen shows in this summer's "Lurker Ray's Summer Sampler" and in honor of the start of the NYC Beacon run, here is the unreleased "Lunch With Gina Lasts Forever" from the 2003 tour and in a separate torrent, my last unreleased Fagen Solo tour show that also happens to be the last show of that tour. I am getting very busy again now that summer is over and I won't be posting any more of my shows until after the current tour, perhaps I will get some free time during Thanksgiving, but I make no promises. Much thanks goes to WombBoy & Buttmanos for their hard work in bringing you these shows.

STEELY DAN - LUNCH WITH GINA LASTS FOREVER
LIVE - UNIVERSAL AMPITHEATER HOLLYWOOD OCTOBER 1 & 2 2003
In the late summer of 2003 I started to date Gina. We met at Baja Fresh during our mutual lunch periods that my new corporate job at the time had luckily scheduled during the same times. These endless afternoons started on the day I met her. Gina was a very hot gal but she was always late. A real deal breaker for me, even with LA traffic and even if you are as hot as Gina. After 9/11 Universal had beefed up its security to nonsense levels where you got TSA-wanded before you entered or had to walk through a scanner, much like the Beacon in NYC still is today sadly. We figured that Gina's purse and the smallest device possible, the Sony MiniDisc was our best route. "So what time do you want to meet at Universal?", asked Gina. Oh no, I am not going to miss any of these shows especially after having the luxury of seeing 2 nights at Roseland sans Gina because she would have nothing to do with General Admission. Here are your tickets doll, meet me at the Steely Dan show, and PLEASE try and be on time, remember we are going to try and record these shows and YOU have the equipment. The first set (remember when they used to do that?) was just about over and I'm about to go postal when she waltzes in. "Sorry I'm late, traffic was a bitch". Yeah right. So we used the intermission to set up the mics and equipment. Second night? You guessed it, when will she get here? Maybe later, maybe never. Gina was late again. But hey after nearly 8 years of you not being able to hear these recordings of two kick ass shows, it was Gina after all who smuggled in the equipment for us.
Not many live recordings of Lunch With Gina out there and this one will kick your ass. The ULTRA rare dueling guitars of Dean Parks with Jon on one of my favorite versions of My Old School are just smokestack lightning. There were no special guests at Roseland and after nearly a month after the Roseland 2003 second leg gigs I think the band is much tighter and the shows were better executed at Universal. You can listen for yourselves. Because these recordings along with the soundboard from the complete 2nd night show (too bad we don't have the first night off the soundboard which for the first time is included here in its complete second set glory is just sick with Dean Parks!) are about as close as you are going to get to hearing what the two night stand at Roseland sounded like 8 years ago. The setlists for the two nights at Universal are exactly the same as Roseland. I had a blast at Roseland but there were too many drunken loud sing-a-longs for my money and that alone could be reason for the lack of Roseland shows recorded. Like I said the band had been out on this final leg for a while and were tight as shit. FM with Dean Parks is so frickin LA Cool again with another amazing back and forth with the "new" kid Jon Herington. And enjoy two crackling versions of Parker's Band and the two smoldering versions of the MIA this tour Don't Take Me Alive. That Jon Herington guy, yeah they might want to keep this guy.

OU COMMENTS: Actually my first Nils Lofgren concert in a small blues club in Hamburg - the short concert was played around midday on the day where Bruce & The E Street Band was playing in the evening at Hamburg AOL Stadium & the little Nils gig were first announced or rumoured to take place I think a day or two before, so we decided to find the blues club in Hamburg although our main goal was E Street Band in the evening!
And I must admit I'm very happy that we went to the club, because it was a great little acoustic concert we got with Nils that early afternoon! He actually played 7 songs, but on this FM Radio version only 5 of them being played. A day in Hamburg I will never forget!

OU Notes: I remember i got this recording from a guy I know who is not a taper at all but took some equipment with him to the fest and taped some bands. The Finns were among them. I never shared this recording since I never felt like it. And if i'm not mistaken it has been uncirculated.
Anyways, I was approached with a request to share and here it is. "Today is exactly 10 years anniversary of the very first performance of Apocalyptica and this was the first song we ever played – Creeping Death"...
Great performance from maestro Finns..Soundwise the recording is quite nice!
