A Date With Elvis

Listening to my 25-year-old copy of the Cramps LP right now. Forgot how good it was. G

The Fuzztones

I used to love this band, but I'm allergic to any band that's on a 30th anniversary tour. If you're in London it might be a laugh, though. GI

Spooktacular

I've been away for a few days so I haven't had chance to post pics from The Stags Spooktacular. It was a great gig with a lot of good friends there from Davida, Co-Built, Red Max, Skooter Farm... Johnny Alpha did a great set, I played a few of my records. The Stags' Mr Murdo (aka Dave Skooter Farm, seen above before he got dressed up) and Joe built an incredible set. The best Halloween party ever. GI
UPDATE: New photos taken from Full Frokkul Fiasco blog

Spooktacular

If you made it to our issue 5 release party Wig-Out in Wigan you know you'll want to attend this. If you missed it, this is your chance to make up for the shocking error.
All the same ingredients. Timewarp venue with bargain basement beer prices; The incredible Stags; Sir Johnny Alpha DJing (plus Sideburn's GI spinning a few tunes). Loads of influential and beautiful people; dirt trackers letting their hair down (or at least getting drunk and dancing); one of the most fun live bands you're ever going to see.
People are travelling from all over the UK for this. Sideburn, Co-Built, Skooter Farm, Davida, Red Max... will all be in attendance, though in reality it has nothing to do with bikes and everything to do with dressing up (probably as a lady) and getting down. Are you gonna be there?
Friday October 29. The British Legion, Upper Dicconson St, Wigan, WN1 2AD

UPDATE: We'll be giving a bunch of Sideburn stuff to the best costume. The Stags will be judge, jury and executioner.

Xena V2

Sideburn's Project FT500 (and SB6 cover bike) is protected by voodoo and a Xena X2 disc lock. Thanks Dan. Here's the info. G

SoldSecure Gold standard theft protection
Measuring only 85x56x65mm, and weighing just 679g.
Constructed from high-grade stainless steel, it repels drill and hammer attacks, and is also 100% corrosion resistant. Its unique V shape provides a high strength-to-weight ratio, and effectively doubles the work for any potential thief because both sides must be overcome to open it. Both the body and lock barrel of the X2 are ice-spray proof too.
Available in yellow or stainless steel finishes priced at £21.00 and £24.01 respectively.

Vince Ray

Blimey, Vince Ray & the Boneshakers is playing 18 miles from my house at Mama Liz's in Stamford (that's close if you live in the sticks). Could be fun. G
PS just noticed, two very different boneshaker posts on the trot.

Fugly

One of the most fugly motorcycles I have seen in a looong time - but there's still something about it that's giving a cheeky wink.
What the hell is it?! BP

Killer Diller free to download

Look, if you like Sideburn I'm sure you're going to like this radio show. Sir Johnny Alpha (that's him on the left) is Sideburn's house DJ. And he's put his latest radio show online to download. It's a mixture of 60s garage punk, blues, soul, exotica... You will love it. I've listened to it three times already.

Stuff I love. Pt 1.

Stuff I'm loving beyond all measure. Click the links and be taken nice places. GI

Everything Kriega make. British designed (though made in China), super heavy-duty stuff that sets the standard for modern motorcycle soft goods. I’m flattered they advertise in Sideburn. This is Ben's tool roll, ready for action.

I'm not big on fancy dan helmet paintjobs. They remind me of spoilt journalists, but racers are allowed. These are by new London custom den Death Spray Custom. He'll paint bike tanks too. Yum-yum. Thanks to Wes at HfL for the introduction.

King Khan and his Shrines. Still. And the cover of this CD on German label Voodoo Rhythm. King Khan got it all. Can't wait to see them again.

Germans! We had Jan from motokultursite Chromjuwelen contact us first, then Helge at Motoraver. Helge runs magazine and website with a uniquely German take on hot rodding/street customs. Helge's just bought a Sporty street tracker too. That's his 76 Granada, that won't mean much to the Americans reading this but will surely please a few Brits and Germans (who can't afford to buy or run an American V8).

BBC Radio 6. If you're unfortunate enough not to live in GB you'll have crap radio. It's a fact. Do yourself a favour and get on the internet and listen in. They play a lot of new indie stuff and loads of old favourites and tunes you won't hear anywhere else. Like 20-year-old live concerts of the Screaming Blue Messiahs.

This fella's Lego helmet.

The Vintagent. A proper high quality blog, that gives the blog landscape something really different. And Paul d'Orleans, the Vintagent, likes Sideburn so much he's going to write something for Sideburn 3 and 4. He's a dapper chap, too.

Always wear approved safety clothing

A Calabash - or fresh helmet.

From the BBC.
Motorcyclists in Nigeria have been wearing dried pumpkin shells on their heads to dodge new laws forcing them to wear helmets, authorities have said.
Officials in the northern city of Kano said they had stopped several people with "improvised helmets", following this month's introduction of the law.
Motorcycle taxis are a cheap way for Nigerians to get around congested and chaotic city streets. Many drivers of the motorcycle taxis are furious over the new law, which came into force on New Year's Day.
In the city of Kaduna, drivers waved palm fronds and rode in convoy to protest at the price of helmets, which can cost up to $29 (£20). They say passengers often steal the helmets once they reach their destination.
Stories have also appeared in the local papers highlighting passengers' fears that the helmets could be used by motorcyclists to cast spells on their clients, making it easy for them to be robbed.
"Some people can put juju inside the helmets and when they are worn the victim can either lose consciousness or be struck dumb," passenger Kolawole Aremu told the Daily Trust newspaper.
Local government authorities often give motorbikes to jobless young men, saying it gives them a way to make a living.

Undead upper class bikers are go!

I found a box full of CDs under my desk yesterday. Among a few from the great Jonathan Richman there was a CD copy of the vinyl LP of the Psychomania soundtrack (did you follow that?). The soundtrack is a mixture of chilling background music (if that's possible) and scenes from the film. The film itself is one of a very rare breed, the British biker movie. But it's good, because the bikers are led by an upper class fop who realises he can become undead and tops himself. Read an entertaining review here.
The soundtrack is available (on CD only now) from cult record label Trunk Records.

King Khan at The Dirty Water

Great show. Eight band members (Khan, keyboard, bass, guitar, drums, trumpet and two saxophones), plus a very Diana Dors-esque go-go dancer dressed like Tura Satana from Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill. All on a stage the size of a good kitchen table.
There was a voodoo stick; good looking crowd of bleached, primped, preened, smashed, tattooed and moustachioed misfits (who were fairly enthusiastic as far as London goes); fantastic music; call and response and the great request, from King Khan, for the audience to 'Clap your hands together... Clap your tits together... Clap your balls together!'
Start practicing that and see them when you can. GI
