miscellany #1

Thursday, 10 May 2012

Hello everyone - it's been a while hasn't it? We decided to take an impromptu break - come on, talking solely and exclusively about chairs, chairs, chairs is not required on a daily basis, is it? But that was then, and this is now ........ and so we're back, in part, with a miscellany of images we've featured in the past that are particular favourites. There'll be more where this came from as it's good fun to put together and requires little effort on our part! Yeah, we're lazy - what of it? Oh, do you have a particular favourite?

Tecno-coloured

In our recent 'Berlin Beauty' post, we featured a quite dramatic apartment stuffed full of design classics, one of which was designed by Osvaldo Borsani.  Not familiar with Borsani's designs?  Then take a look at what all the fuss is about ..............

In 1953, Borsani and his twin brother Fulgencio, founded a firm called Tecno, which became known for its technology and research based approach to furniture design.  In 1955, Tecno issued one of its best known pieces, the P40 lounge chair, featuring rubber arms and the ability to assume 486 distinct postures.

Berlin beauty

Completing our week long sneaky-peeks at impressive interior spaces filled with those all important fabulous chairs, we couldn't help but feature this stunning home of Berlin-based set designer Sylvester Koziolek.  With nearly every surface in black, Koziolek sets a deep and dramatic stage, with his impressive collection of 20th century design seemingly rising from the darkness.

Sofa by Marco Zanini and armchair by Osvaldo Borsani.

Albini's Luisa chair.

The Lady Chair was a flea market bargain revived with new velvet upholstery.

Included in Koziolek's collection are a lounge chair and sofa by Marco Zanuso, an adjustable chaise by Osvaldo Borsani and chairs by Ilmari Tapiovaara, Charlotte Perriand, Charles and Ray Eames and Franco Albini.
