A Colourful Thanks

Hiiii!! Today, I wanted to share another card using the Say What?! stamp set. You know, this set is turning to be one of my top favourites and I can't wait to use it again for a different time.

I wanted to colour in these speech bubbles but I didn't feel like colouring them individually. Instead, I've stamped them out into a background pattern by white embossing them. When that's that, I've literally just added pink, yellow and orange and not being too careful about it.

The only thing I kept in mind was to add some darker shades. I find that by adding dark shades, you get a more "textured" look and you can highlight the speech bubbles even more clearly than if you just give it a light wash of colour. Just remember to let the layers dry first before adding more colours.

Instead of using a black and bold sentiment like I would usually do, I've decided to stamp out Thank You using the Lettering Alphas stamp set on a vellum piece. I thought this gives a more softer look. I've just drawn out a "cloud shape" around it and cut it out to match some of the speech bubble.

Hallo - How Are You?

Hey you! It's Sunday and that means I have a brand new card for you today. I'm using a bunch of brand new products! I hope you have been shopping for the new stuff :) I'm here to share a little inspiration of what you can do with them.

I wanted to use those new Postage Edge circles and I've started out but cutting five pieces and covered them completely with gold embossing powder. You could colour them however you please but I thought the metallic gold would give it an "industrial" feel.

I wanted to put a rainbow "hallo" but I didn't like how it looked. I ended up with cutting another "hallo" and stuck it on the rainbow piece but I've off-set it a little bit so that you could still see the rainbow beneath it.

To bring in more colours, I've added a number of the enamel stickers to the card :)

Blooming Colours

Hi everyone! I thought I've used the new In Bloom stamp set quite well, until I realised that I've not touched the big flower. That was my inspiration for this card. I wanted to make a one-layer card but I had a piece of die-cut left from my last card and decided to make use of it.

Super easy card and you can even do it with images of critters, coffee cups, trees, card, or even just simple shapes. A tip is to stamp down your biggest image first (in my card, the yellow flower). This way, you know that you'll definitely have enough space for the number of large images you want and fill in the space with any smaller images.

Alphabet Window

I love having various shapes of dies to make a window panel for my cards but you can also use those alphabet dies as windows. Today, I'm sharing you a card I've made using that technique.

First step is is to die-cut the word "Happy". I'm not very good with straight lines and I couldn't find my T-squared ruler so I used my score board to lightly score a line. That helps me to position my dies in a straight line.

After die-cutting, I used a pencil to lightly trace out the letters on the card base so that it will give me a guide as to where I should stamp the flowers. I am a fan of a loose watercolor look, that's why I've added those colours outside the letters and I think it also helps to bring out the shape of the alphabets even more.

A gold "birthday" die-cut seems like a pretty obvious choice for someone like me who likes to add gold accent to a card ;)

Florals in Heart

Hey all! I am especially excited to share this card because I'm using the new floral stamp :) I love floral stamps and I can have a room full of them hehe. Floral stamp sets are probably one of the most versatile stamps set. You can use it for basically any occasion. One of my favourite ways is to put flowers in a shape.

I've die-cut a heart shape first. You can use any shapes you want. Circles, triangle, square, cloud, or even a coffee mug shape. Then, take your flowers and just fill the shape in. I've started with my biggest flower first and fill up with tiny images.

I brought out my trusty prima watercolours to colour the florals. Then, I've loosely, drop a of blue to have that background. Add your sentiment and a little bit of stickles to finish up the card.

Gather All Your Papers!

Hey all! Do you have a stack of patterned paper that you have not touched in a while? Or are you a paper hoarder like me? Here's an idea for you to be inspired to use up your papers :)

I found this tiny hexagon die-cut in one of my basket of randomness. I don't know where it belongs to :( But you can also do this by hand. And you can use whichever shape you prefer. So I spend quite a while cutting them all while watching stuff on youtube. Hehe.

And then just piece them all together, making sure to alternate the colours. I wanted to use a kraft card base but sometimes, my heart just runs to my white stack of card stock.

I hope you like this card as much as I do!

Friends and Florals

Hey all! Today, I wanted to share the use of a big bold sentiment because I've been practicing my lettering quite a bit these past few weeks so I thought this would be fun :)

I've started by stamping down the sentiment first with Ranger Archival Black Ink because it's waterproof and I used it for the flowers as well. That's all really :) I've coloured the flowers with my Prima Watercolours and added some stickles to the flowers to add some shine and glitter to them.

I hope you like this card as much as I do!

Stamped Gift Boxes with Terhi Koskinen

Hello everyone!

Terhi here today continuing my experiments as a papercrafter, more than a scrapbooker. Today I decided to make giving and sharing even more beautiful, by altering these little gift boxes with gorgeous stamps. Take a look!

Pinterest, as all internet, is a great place to get inspired. There are millions of tutorials of how to fold a gift box, and as folding isn't my personal passion, we'll skip that part and I'm using ready made ones. But, to alter them, I chose the happiest and pretties stamps and sentiments!
The idea is partly inspired by Christmas, but the idea goes to any gift wrapping, just choose stamps to coordinate with your occasion.

As long as you are in stamping mood, take some coordinating paper and cut some gift tags in the same time. It makes your gift even more perfect and pretty.
I went even one step further by decorating some of my gift with a flair buttons that can be purchased from Create A Smile store. The receiver will get a nice and pretty gift, and a memory too. The flair button can be used later as a fridge magnet or any other little decoration.

Bold Background + Saving Money Tips

Hi everyone! How's your week been? Thanks for the nice comments last week. I'm waiting for my second pack of Distress Crayons order to arrive and I would share more next week. So, I hope you'll stay tune if you are thinking of getting them but you're unsure.

P.S : Giveaway winner has been revealed my instagram :)

So today, I'm sharing with you a bold and very simple card with some tips throughout the tutorial. Alternative ideas for you to save some money on crafting.

For this card, to start I'm using the background stamp, versamark ink, watercolours & watercolour paper. You can use ANY watercolour medium that you have. If you have invested in various Distress Inks, use them. If you don't, any basic watercolour will do. I know I've seen simple watercolour palettes in a dollar store! Bargain :D

I buy regular, not professional watercolour paper. When you're doing simple cards like this, you really don't have to spend too much money on watercolour paper. It works perfectly fine.

When it comes to using a big background stamp, I prefer to put the paper over the stamp rather than the stamp over the paper. This allows me to see exactly where it'll stamp and also I don't have a stamp press for a big stamp ;)

I've decided to use a gold embossing powder today. No idea why. LOL. I honestly sat on the table and thought, eh, why not? You use embossing powders. Try them out even if it's not white or gold. It might turn out cool :) Don't buy and leave them in your cupboard ;)

I bought some craft foam thingy (sorry I don't know what they are called) to stick my watercolour panel. I don't do this often but my watercolour paper was slightly warping from the embossing, this foam helps to keep my paper straight.

Ah. The iridescent medium from Winsor & Newton is my best buy ever. If there are other brands cheaper, you ahead and try it out. But if you can get a hold of this, I highly recommend it. It gives the EXACT same effect as the Wink of Stella and it has more. So it's super cost efficient.

So create a little pop-up banner. I've scored two lines and use the lines as a guide to fold the paper like the photo below. Snip of the excess and create a little fishtail. You can give this a try with regular writing paper to see what you like.

Unless, I'm required, I don't buy paper from a specific craft brand. I would love to but shipping cost isn't my best friend :( But black paper. You can find it in all your stationery store ;)

Hope you've enjoy the tutorial and find it helpful! Let me know if you have something in particular that you would like me to do a tutorial for.

Dreamcatching with Terhi Koskinen

Hello Create A Smile Fans!

Terhi Koskinen here sharing my favorite layout for this year - I can't stop staring those big blue eyes together with those gorgeous Funky Feathers.

As I'm not used to use feathers as usual embellishments, I had to options in my mind. Either adding the feathers on the background, or stamping and fussy cutting them to hang from picture. Went with the second idea, and somehow during the process I got idea of a dreamcatcher.

Whole creating process is recorded on a video, take look here:

Embossing is easy, fun and effective. And it's never out of style, so don't forget to use it.

I hope feel inspired after seeing this layout, I personally loved creating it!

Terhi xx
