Hot Mess Monday

I am excited about today's post. This is the first of many "Hot Mess" posts you will see!

In this monthly challenge you will see cards or projects that will make a mess, a hot mess of work spaces, fingers, clothes and anything I touch! But from the "hot mess" comes success, a beautiful creation to share with you!

My fellow Hot Mess ~ Success crafters are Barb, Jeanette and Kelly. Make sure you visit their blogs to see their hot mess creations! All you have to do is click on their names above.

For this first challenge, I tried a technique that I have never done before using the Shaving Cream tutorial on Splitcoaststampers!

What I needed and used for my background:

  • Shaving cream
  • Re-inkers (I used Stampin' Up Night of Navy, Baja Breeze and Bordering Blue)
  • Paper plate
  • Toothpicks
  • Large putty knife
Following the tutorial I linked above I was able to create some cool backgrounds:

And here is my final card:

I used a sentiment from Unity Stamp Co, and flower dies from MFT to finish it off. I think it turned out nice!

Thank you for stopping by! There will be a new Hot Mess ~ Success every 2nd Monday of each month. Come back to see what messes I create!

Halloween in June?

I'm late for my own duel! I had good intentions, since this is my month as hostess for the Dazzlers, but life and no power happened.

This month Tami and I came up with the idea to "use what we have" and come up with our theme after looking at our stash. After some brainstorming, we came up with the unexpected theme of  Halloween in June! We both had Halloween stamps and papers, so we went with it!

In my kit to the Dazzlers was the following:

Images and sentiments: My Favorite Things “Witch Way Is The Candy?”
Papers: The Paper Studio (both DP and solids)
Enamel dots: The Paper Studio
Ribbons: from Michaels
Die cuts: A Muse fence, spider web and bats

Here is my spooky Halloween creation:

I had so much fun creating this card, and I hope my fellow Dazzlers enjoyed the kit too! make sure you visit all of the Dazzler and Diva blogs to see more Halloween fun....links are in my right sidebar!

Until the next duel...Happy Halloween!

CYS - May - It's all about flowers.

Hello!

It's the 28th and time to reveal my card for the monthly "Challenge Your Stash" group on SCS. Each month, someone is the hostess, or challenger, and comes up with a challenge for the group. This could be a sketch or a color combination or a technique or a combination of those.

May was my month and I came up with the following challenge: Use your favorite floral stamps for your focal image. You can make a card for any occasion, but make sure you focus on flowers.

Here is the card I came up with for my Mother's Day cards this year:

I used the stamp set Funky Flowers from My Favorite Things. I stamped and masked my flowers and leaves one at a time to create the bouquet. Time consuming, but worth it! Both my mom, and mother-in-law loved them, and that's what matters!

Thank you for stopping by, and thank you to those that played along this month :-)

A Celtic Blessing

Good morning and welcome to duel day! The Dueling Darlings are at it again, and hostesses April for the Dazzlers and Kadie for the Divas came up with a great St Patrick's Day theme for us.

Here is our message from April:

Hello Duelers!

What a great theme Kadie and I have for you this month!

Being that we post on the 15th, we decided to go with the obvious, St. Patrick's Day! Rather than wishing everyone luck, we would like you to somehow use the enclosed Celtic Blessing. We are indeed blessed to be part of this group!!

The kits are filled with things we hope you will enjoy using to bless another! Please, let us know of a recent RAK you have initiated or been the recipient of!

Happy creating!

I had every intention of taking a picture of the kit before I made my card, but of course I didn't. There was so much included, that I had a hard time using everything, but I tried. The kit from April included:
  • 3 gold brads
  • Picture clips in white, black and brown
  • Kaiser paper flowers
  • Assorted ribbon
  • Paper: Heidi Grace Shimmer Foil Clover
  • Karen Foster Shamrocks
  • Lucky Limeade cardstock - SU!
  • Computer generated Celtic Blessing
  • Image: MFT ala mode 'Wishing You Luck"
I managed to use the Shamrocks DP, Lucky Limeade cardstock, all of the paper flowers, a gold brad, 2 of the ribbons and the Celtic Blessing. Pretty good for me ☺ The only thing I added was the card base of Basic Black SU! cardstock. The image is colored in Copics.

Here is my card:

I really like how this card turned out, and I hope you like it too!

The final part of this challenge is to mention a RAK (random act of kindness) that I have either initiated, or been the recipient of. Well, I went shopping with my mom and younger sister on Friday. We went to Kohl's and spent quite a bit of money, us giving mom money and she paid since she had a 30% off coupon. It's also Kohl's cash time and mom got $30 worth due to all of our purchases. I figured she would keep it since it was her 30% off discount, but she gave it to me. That was very unexpected, and very nice of her to do. I am going to use that cash to get Steve a new pair of tennis shoes....even though I could easily spend it on myself. So, I guess I am paying it forward too.

Thank you for stopping by! Please stop by all of the Darlings to view their creations, links are in my right sidebar!

It's Duel time!

Good morning everyone! It's the 15th of the month and time to duel!

LJ and I were hostesses this month and came up with a fun theme that everyone would enjoy. I searched the website Jeanette uses to find unusual holidays and found this:

January is "Book Blitz Month". We came up with "reading" themed kits and mailed them out to the Dazzlers and Divas to put together this months card.

The kit I sent included the following items:

Image: MFT Who's That Girl - "Well Read"
Paper - Basic Grey DP "Study Hall" - I only had one sheet, I never buy just one sheet of any paper, but I only had one sheet to split for everyone, DCWV brown solid, Fancy Pants DP "Frigid"
Accessories: CTMH Baker's Twine - Neutral Assortment brown, Buttons - Dress It Up - Lone Stars, Nailheads Metal stickers - Mark Richards from Hobby Lobby, Ribbon - brown from my stash

LJ and I also asked our teams to let everyone know who our favorite author is, or what our favorite book is and why.

Here is my creation. It's not a card, it's a bookmark. I realized that while I was making it that it was going to be a really big bookmark, and I was right. It is too big for a standard paperback. Maybe I just need bigger books?? What I really should have done was to make it 2 sided and had the sentiment on the back. Too late now ☺ Maybe I'll make another one that way so that I can actually use it!

I love to read, and I had been purchasing books online and reading them using the B&N app on my tablet. It can get expensive, but to me it was worth it and I really didn't give it a thought.

One day, I received an email from Diva Tami with all of the information on how to get a library card and steps on how to use the libraries check out system to get books delivered electronically to my tablet! What a sweetheart....she did all of the research and sent me all of the links I needed that got me to where I am today. I have a library card, and I have 3 books checked out right now, ready to be read! Thank you Tami! I will be forever grateful to you for sharing that information with me!!

As for my favorite author? I don't really have one, but right now I am reading a book written by Nicholas Sparks (also just finished one of his too). I do have a favorite book though, and this book goes all the way back to Sophomore year of high school. We were required to read "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee published in 1960. Loved it, and actually read it several times since high school. In 1962, the book was also made into a movie staring Gregory Peck, and the movie was actually pretty good too.

I am so glad the the Dazzlers enjoyed working with the kit I sent out, and I still feel terrible that they were sent out so late....life just has a way of getting in the way sometimes.

Please check out all of the Diva and Dazzler cards.....blogs are listed in my right sidebar!

Unidentified Image - Card Reveal!

Hi everyone!

Today is the day we reveal the cards we made for the Unidentified Image Swap on SCS.

I am the hostess for this round and picked an image from MFT - Miss You a Latte. The images were sent to everyone in the swap to create cards with the papers and embellishments of their choosing. It has been so much fun opening the packages as they have been delivered to see what great creations are inside!

This is one talented group of ladies, and that is putting it mildly! Everyone has their own style and tons of creativity! I love what everyone has created so far (I am still waiting for a few packages)!

Here is my card......and since this was my very first time hostessing, I decided to make one for each and every one of the ladies! I even remembered to make one for myself!

Thanks for stopping in and looking!

It's a Mystery!

I am a member of a "Mystery" swap over on SplitcoastStampers hosted by Forest Ranger (Jeanette). With the return of her last Forest Swap cards we received this "mystery image" of Fred Bear, from the MFT set Fred Bear Goes Camping. No one in the swap knew what image we were going to receive, and we were not able to post our completed cards until they were back out in the mail to everyone.

So here is my card. I hope you all like the finished product!
