SAHRR finish !!! DRAGONFLIES ON THE POND

"Dragonflies on the pond"  42" X 42"
I had to make a big push to get this finished for the parade of SAHRR quilts at

just last week it was in three sections ready to quilt that way, and just getting to that point was a big task for me... all the decisions and final design choices, making it all come together after months of following prompts....

It was in three sections to make quilting on my small machine doable... sky section,  Dragonfly section was largest at 30" by 42" , and waterlillies along the bottom

after completely quilting each section I needed to join them to the center leaving backing free to cover the seams
I used a long hoarded garden scene for the large center section, a blue water for this one, and a cloudy sky fabric for backing the top section.

oops took the photo  of my sky join upside down, to show how it looks after joining quilted rows

oh but I had some fantastic fabrics in my dragonfly collection, fussy cut them, actually used them and so happy I did. One of those sky fabrics is photo realistic with golden highlights. A row print fussy cut to get dragonflies in one section.

a closer look at an art deco design for quilting behind the dragonflies...

There were 6 prompts to include... the lilly is fussy cut out of a batik, fused to each other and a rawedged leaf gathered and shaped with quilting, lots of metallic sparkly threads on the petals, and it was two prompts, "two color" and the leaf shapes I can't remember. The 9 patches were following another prompt, the little pinwheel came from a "parts dept" scrappy bin.

added this in at the end...
I actually love the water lilies and might need to make a quilt showcasing them

All the while my patient snoopervisor stayed with me steadfastly

Alfie is not quite 2, so patient and calm, and is my companion. We've had him 6 weeks and it's like he was always here....

I appreciate the organizers of this event so much... each year I feel I learn so much and make a favorite quilt... I have loved this quilt  and am so glad to use the MODA free pattern for Dragonflies

Alfie says thanks for visiting
but it's time to walk the mommy.... see you later

still creating with color! Distracted but still stitching

I've been spending my creative time sewing on two projects this week...

The first is my hexie spiral in green scraps... and this year I'm trying to do blocks based on holidays or seasons,

This time I am trying to make a St. Patrick's Day theme... I couldn't find one print I know I have, but did find two clover prints. and there is gold on one spiral fabric for the pot of gold, and a worm dressed up on clovers and some clovers blowing in the wind!

I quite like this one, it's so bright and happy. Note the yellow green one next to the blowing clover has printed spiral dots when you see it close up

I took a moment to think about the prompt for this row of Stay at home Round Robin... maker's choice

it's gonna be much larger than I originally thought. All of it has grown from the dragonflies, outward
I did 4 patches of two color White with glitter and blue sky  continuing last week's prompt, and then for my block choice I thought a row of flying geese would be good above

I cut the dark blue dragonfly fabric into 2" squares, then in half diagonally, for the centers

and used sky fabric/ light blue sparkles/ and medium blue sparkles for the side triangles and like the movement using the three fabrics gave me
I am not sure how I will place the two geese sections yet, but suspect I will fill in sky fabrics , and put a row of light sky between the hourglass blocks and geese

I think I want to find a place for this lovely two color checkerboard print... and I will go ahead and use the "two fabric not two color" circles someplace

oh and I want to find a place for these leftover pinwheels too...

I love this challenge, check it out at Quiltinggail  (https://quiltinggail.com/)

I'm happy to note my new snoopervisor was a fabulous studio companion this week. It's week two of his being with us, and he has slept long and hard this week.... and scampered around some, and played with a toy.

drying off after a bath, and seeing the Vet this morning.
Dewi says, I'm artistic too!!! look at the abstract I did with water...
Hee hee! It comes naturally to me like having curly hairs!

Stay at home round robin next row, two colors

it's too much this year, adding in a row each week is frantic to me....

we brought this lovely boy into our home on Sunday... a  one and a half year old standard rescue....
today he was perfect, he's been here 8 days and perfect.

This evening I ran up to make a block for the SAHRR... I had wanted ,and pulled fabric, to make two color 4 patches.  One would go above, one below the center...

I couldn't kick into design work this week. Then tonight,
In my rush to make something, and exhausted, I decided one block with a circle.
I cut two circles out to put on the background

LOVELY! exciting!
then  I realized the prompt is 2 colors, not two fabrics...
oh my heck
and while I was upstairs making something two color to add in, hurting my shoulder, my new dog who doesn't know how to ask to go out, peed on the LR carpet.
God Bless Him, He was with dh when it happened and I'm the one who usually notices him getting frantic....
anyway.... we are finding the experience a very real but worthy challenge. Dewi has brought love back to my life, and laughter, so this is more our fault but we are very tired....
I betcha when I sew the whole quilt together in the end, this block will get another applique of a lily

or the two other circles will join the party.... at that point I've met the challenges, but have to make the quilt that's in my mind also.... so for now, finally at 8pm dinner, rest my eyes, pet my puppy and remember my life includes more than creativity even though sometimes it takes over! lol
mama, put down the fabric and come pet me now

Dragonflies and waterlilies happy V-day

My posting schedule is kind of sporadic now that I have 3 deadlines to make and post my work.

Today I am sharing this week's work for the stay at home round robin, the prompt is "curves" and I needed to make the prompt fit in my scene

this week I joined the hourglass blocks, love how they blend and look, thank you to the challenge organizers. Then I worked on this week's curves.... decided to use this fabric

I used some misty fuse on a fussy cut strip, then cut out petal shapes and arranged them into lily shape
and chose a background fabric to fit in with the double blocks row I did last week, and pieced this week
I fused the top portion of petals together to make one flower to then move around the background
it's easier to move the whole thing than keep individual petals together

heat bonds the petals and mistyfuse

seeing it with the components, I realized it needed a leaf. Used a scrap, sewed seams in it to create texture

tucked it under the petals and I plan to embroider all the petals and leaf when the quilt is basted, to create more dimension, and that thread color will create more depth then

I'm liking this, and plan to move the strip I chose last week to let the watery fabrics blend

awe, I love coming in the studio to see this on the wall!
no time to rest, this is the Valentine pull for a special hexie spiral block

and this is the pull of green scraps for Rainbow Scrap challenge

A hexie block in St. Patrick's day fabrics, and green scraps for this month

and one of my photos from walks this week, enhanced to really glow green! since it's mostly brown in Colorado without any snow basically all season. We never got winter this year  near Denver

and my calendar is especially pretty this month, with a V-day collage

(we are going out to visit a poodle, wish us luck, a house needs a spoo  (standard poodle)!

Dragonflies next SAHRR row

I worked on the prompt for stay at home round robin (animals or live things) row this week

(first, the dragonfly doll was made last year for PQ challenge, she guards my design wall)

My piece for SAHRR this year is one of dragonflies, they have eyes, so I continued in my theme.

my first thought, because I am having trouble with my bodily pain this week, was to cut a row from a print with dragonflies/frogs/and turtles. I started by sewing together the hourglass blocks from another prompt, having to commit to placement.
hmmm not sure,
what about another print with just dragonflies?
cut a strip of it...

it's there under the hourglass,

gotta add in this print somewhere

maybe if I add in this little batik strip in the sky, it has dragonflies
